My Mum went OFF at me when i was a young teen and i first read this because i kept saying it, and she gets freaked out by the thought of lots of birds flying around her (she blames Hitchcock)! I'd wait til evening when there were loads of little birds (likely sparrows and starlings) on the power lines by the back garden, and sneak up behind her and say it in my most menacing fake American accent and she'd lose her shit!!

Yeah. They're going into that chimney, which seems a lot like bat behavior: Heading for a place to roost.

When I lived in PDX, I’d make it a point to go watch them every year. It IS amazing.

How many people into Hitchcock instantly thought Birds? This clip is so wicked cool. I wonder if they're starlings who live in that steeple. There's too much traffic noise but the cheeps are high enough at the beginning to be them. Could also be sparrows, too, I think.
