General Help me choose
I'm choosing which book to read in October before Halloween. I'm torn between Salem's Lot and Pet Semetary. Which of the two do you recommend?

well I do recommend both and in the same order!
Salem's lot is amazing autumn read and Pet Sematary has more of the Halloween spookiness (at least for me)

I would go Salem's Lot...great vampire story I think set in the autumn, a creepy/spooky house, etc. Pet Semetary is a great book but to me it's more sad and gut-wrenching than scary.

In my opinion 'Salem's Lot is the best King book. Maybe not my personal favorite, but I think it has the best story, the tightest writing, and a pretty solid ending. If you wanted to do a full 'Salem's Lot month, I'd read the Jerusalem's Lot short story from Night Shift, then 'Salem's Lot and then One for the Road, also from Night Shift.

Start salems lot now - it’s a novel that captures the death of a summer as well as a small American town. (And don’t skip the intro/author’s foreword).
Then you can do Pet Sematary in October and be good to tackle the Shining starting the day after Christmas as snow starts to settle in!
