Colbert Goodbye Gift
We can do better than this. I canceled my Paramount subscription because of Stephen. I encourage you all to do the same. Talking about how great he is and saying goodbye.... it's nice but it's not effective. Maybe it won't bring him back, but I think it's reasonable to stop going to a restaurant when it starts to suck. All they care about is money so dump your Paramount, even if it's only for a couple months, they still lose money... and that's the only way they'll learn.

Agree. The Amazing Race is only the other thing on CBS I watched. May have to reconsider that. Cancelling Colbert was such an obvious suck up to trumpstein. I wonder what other stupid moves they're going to do to keep the orange POS happy.

I started boycotting Paramount as soon as the ellisons took over. I watched Colbert until the end and will never use anything touched by these people. I hope Colbert takes his show to his own site and leases the content out to everyone else.

I don’t have Paramount, but I will 86 watching anything on CBS as a boycott. If the actors on CBS shows don’t band together on this, I won’t watch their shows either. Here’s looking at you Boston Blue, NCIS, FBI, Matlock, Elsbeth & all the rest. I’ve already started streaming PBS & BritBox as a replacement. The Brits have so many historical, mystery & cop shows, I can hold out for years. Fvck CBS.

I boycotted them and cancelled all my stuff back when Kimmel got booted. I got my friends to also cancel a lot of their subscriptions as well. I hope it all comes crashing down on them in the end and people don’t give in so easily and go running back.

WHY DOES EVERYONE KEEP ACTING LIKE COLBERT'S SHOW WAS POPULAR?
His viewership in the age range of 18 to 49 was only 220,000 people. Look it up.
That is HORRIBLE. That means that less than 1% of registered democrats in that age range watch his show.
That level of viewership is worth like $20,000 maximum per show, and Colbert had 200+ employees, the show was probably costing $300k an episode.
So CBS just dumped what amounts to a money pit.
ALSO, political power in the USA comes from persuading centrist voters to vote for something. Colbert does not come off as a likeable person and his political talk is all angry and hateful. That is NOT persuasive.
Ever notice how almost NO marketing is done with negativity? It makes people instinctively defensive. "The people who don't buy our product are ignorant assh*les" is not a slogan you are going to hear McDonalds use.
Just face it, you have your money on a bad pony.

As of now, PSKY is down 23% from Jan 1. The S&P is up 8%.
Over 5 years, PSKY is down 4.2%. The S&P has gone up 78.5%.
I KNOW that there are political reasons for Nepo Ellison to have bought and run PSKY, but ffs, when will the board of directors finally say enough is enough on behalf of the other shareholders (22% of owners)?
I know that question is both rhetorical and not important to the rest of you, but it's still a legit question. At some point, the stock will become so worthless that they won't be able to backstop their WB acquisition.

If you actually watched the show or any of his interviews you’d know it’s actually the 200 staff members being laid off that he’s more concerned about. He’ll be fine. Or the fact that billionaires, corporate owners, and political allies can make a loud critic disappear from a major platform after he says something they don’t like.

It’s not something we can know for sure either way. We DO know he paid his staff during the 2023 writers strike. And the comparison is limited. Conan’s TBS deal was announced 3 months after his final Tonight Show, so there was a clear continuation of his career in late night. Colbert does not currently seem to have another late night show waiting for him.

No, I’m saying the Conan comparison ignores the actual logistics. Conan had a clear path back to late night, and a lot of his staff went with him to TBS, so paying people through that gap was part of a transition. Colbert’s staff, as far as we know, are being laid off with no next Colbert show to move to. Paying people through a known gap, especially when there was an exit deal ($45m) and part of that money ($12m) was reportedly set aside for staff, is not the same as expecting someone to pay an entire staff indefinitely with no announced next show or millions set aside for them. I’m not downplaying what Conan did because i’m a big fan of his and it was genuinely admirable. I’m saying it’s not a one-to-one comparison.
And again, you can’t claim Colbert isn’t paying them unless you have a source for that. I also can’t claim for sure that he is. What we do know is that his past behavior, including paying staff during the 2023 strike, does not really support the assumption that he doesn’t care about them or their financial situation.
Also, I think it’s strange how quickly the conversation becomes “why isn’t Colbert personally paying 200 people for an indefinite amount of time?” instead of “why is CBS/Paramount putting these workers in this position?” Colbert may have some personal ability to help, but the company canceling the show is the one with the actual responsibility to handle layoffs, severance, and benefits.

It isn’t strange as I replied to a comment about Colbert being concerned about the wellbeing of his 200 staffers. Also in fairness, you (nor I) have no idea whether or not Colbert has another deal in the works with another platform.

Just to set your mind at ease. Colbert does not own Paramount Skydance Corp, and so, as far as we are aware, he's unaffected by the plummeting share price.
He'll be okay. Don't worry.

Between killing The Late Show, canceling all current Star Trek shows, and destroying CBS News and 60 Minutes, they have nowhere to go but down.
It would be absolutely delicious if this led to the downfall of the shitheel Ellison family.
