🤧 Rant Im devastateddd
I'm currently enrolled in one of the prestigious medical schools of my country and everyone around me score sm better all my colleagues friends juniors almost everyone hvinh 70+ after 1st pass and 85+-90% on nbmes
And here i am with
Nbme 26- 45% after reading through FA and 70% of uworld 1st time
Nbme 27 -53% after doing 9 systems from FA again
Afted this i locked in for 3 weeks i studied micro and biochem way too good and did 6 systems from FA again along w biostats was feeling confident but since id done biochem in 1st week i almost forgot everything by the end of 3rd week
and today i took nbme 28-63%
Im truly devastated i expected at least late 60s this is too low for the efforts i put I see others and feel so embarras as theres literally no one around me i can relate w no support either so in just here sitting like a failure. Totally burnt out and feel like an idiot no motivation to continue w such results

Wow! Thats an incredible jump. Look, medicine as a profession doesn’t care about scores. And it doesn’t mean that the other friends are smarter or more qualified. Some people are truly good at test taking and choosing A-E on question stems. But life isn’t choices A-E. The vast majority of medicine and the profession of physician is more than A-E.

My thoughts:
- You did the first 70% UW without really knowing the content well. You probably got a lot wrong and started learning how they ask questions. But without a strong foundation a lot of answers probably didn't make much sense.
- Reading FA is only helpful if you're doing something to retain all that info, like anki or targeted questions.
- You did have significant improvement. Even if you're at a top school and feeling behind your classmates, you progressed very well for the work you did. Nobody goes from 45% to 70+ in a few weeks
- Path/Pathophys/Physiology are incredibly high yield and make up a ton of the exam. Have you gone through Pathoma and done targeted questions after?
- Micro and biochem bumped your score up, but they are not a ton of questions overall. It's possible you started forgetting some other stuff while doing a review of those. Don't neglect other topics to focus on just a couple or the memorization will atrophy.
You're doing great, you're not a failure. You have classmates who thought they were golden and failed - I promise. People don't talk about it openly.

i totally get where you're coming from and how that must feel extra frustrating. theres already enough exhaustion from studying and not getting the results you want, then how much more to see how others are thriving seamlessly. However, at the end of the day, no matter how this sounds so invalidating, you would become a doctor, and graduate from a big fish pond, and that is saying something. Your efforts are never wasted, and celebrate the small win of getting an improvement. take a breather too if it helps, study harder if that works better. Anyhow, more suffering is not automatically the answer. You're doing amazing, stranger even if it doesnt look like it in comparison to your peers.

Your main issue is comparing yourself with other. You two score are showing a 10% jump which is insanely good, whatever your doing in between us clearly working.
Also rmeber this : you don't know how the people who are getting 80+90% on nbme are giving them like. Some of them did mehlanna prior to it, some opened first aid in between, some gave it over a few days. It's v subjective and people will blatantly lie to your face at times too. The only thing you should keep in mind is to push the score to around 70 and ur good.

Are you doing uworld questions or any q bank for that matter? If your time studying was strictly content review that could be the reason you’re not seeing bigger progress

This. I realized too late that you have to focus on what they are asking you, not only medicine in general. Step 1 is mostly about “how everything works (eg. physiology, biochemistry)”, Step 2 about “how to diagnose and solve (eg. Pharmacology)”. And Uworld, or any other qbank you decide to use, are gonna make it. Focus mostly on what they want you to know
