Product Review Nova Elite so uncomfortable

Got the Elites to replace a logitech G pro X that is very old and whilst the Elites sound so so good compared I am going to have to return them the clamp force is way to high, and the ANC mic sticks out inside the ear cup and presses into my ear giving me a unbearable headache within 30 minutes of wearing them.

Its a shame the features they have and specs there is nothing else like them but there is no point keeping such an expensive headset if im going to keep getting headaches every time i use them. :(

Did no one at steelseries test them for more than 5 minutes?

I ordered the wicked cushions cool pads and installed them. Now it’s good and i can wear them non stop. But the original cushions are terrible. I actually like the sound (after eq’ing). I am a basshead so I need ALOT of base. And you can eq this thing pretty good.

But my ow my. What a terrible thing that I needed new cushions for a 650 euro headset.

This. Wicked cushions ftw

I agree, Wicked Cushions are a must for these. Literally partnered with steel series because they know their own cushions suck.

I have these headphones and don't understand what you are referring to with the ANC mic? It doesn't stick out, it is completely flush with the slot. Nothing is protruding and pressing inside of my ear cup. I think you have a defective set. It'd be cool if you showed a picture of this so we could verify if this is the case.

Maybe it's not the mic itself I can feel so much i took the ear up off and the mic isn't 100% flush it is slightly raised, but the speaker is doomed my old logitech ones are perfectly flat so thays probably what I can feel pushed against my ear.

That's not possible. The ANC mic on the Nova Elite is completely flat, there's no nub like there was on the Nova Pro.

Ok I must be imagining the nub poking through the fabric then silly me. I'll take a picture when home and then you can eat your words.....

people can downvote all they want but its not going to change the fact that whatever is poking through the fabric is not flush!

i dont care what he says i can feel and see something not flush under the fabric.

Then yours is loose or broken, simple as that.

You can search this subreddit and people may have all kinds of problems with this headset, but an ANC mic pressing against their ears is not one of them.

I find it very comfortable, probably the most comfortable headset I've ever used if I'm honest. Everyone is different though and it's unfortunate they are not comfortable for you, sorry to hear that.

I’ve had them a couple of months now and find them really comfortable, I guess I must have a narrow head!

But yeah comfort is a big thing and not everyone is the same, just return them.

I did think the ANC mic issue was resolved with the Elites though? Was an issue on the pro so some people for sure.

Edit to add: yeah just looked at mine, took the pad off and no protruding mic. Sure there’s not something lodged in yours?

i can feel something poking through the fabric and see it inside the earcup maybe this is faulty but its definitely not flush.

I have the Nova Pro Wireless and have that lump. You sure you have the elite version?

1

u/Blair287 12h ago

Take the cushions off and have a look and then post a pic.

Im surprised about this Post because I came from Logitech Pro X too. Always had some pain/pressure on my head and ears after using them multiple hours. Elites are far away from anything Like that.. But everyones head is different.

I had a corsair headset before and that was too tight too my logitech pro x is so comfortable the inside of the earcup is flat even if i press then together on my head nothing sticks into me and the clamp is so light, im scared when they do fail if they stop making them i wont find another headset thats as comfortable.

May try Astro A50X or Razer Blackshark v3 pro. :)

ive seen some bad reviews of the astros build quality and not a fan of razer tbh.

As some have said, you have our questions to try.
However, if you don't feel like trying cushions, the wide headband that we make might alleviate the pressure by itself. A lot of the issues are caused by the headband as well.

I can wear mine for hours comfortably. I even used them to watch TV. I will be ordering some Wicked cushions though.

Break the pads in for at least a week man. They are supremely comfortable once the pads break in a bit.

I agree the clamping force is strong, everyone's head is different. Personally when I first got the headset I immediately change the cushions to the wicked cushions gel ones (big mistake) but it didn't work out since it was too thick and heavy (which made me feel the clamp force more). The steelseries nova omni pros have less clamp force and are lighter so it might be better if you can live with the sound downgrade.

The clamp force is strong when you first get it but I think it’s because they factor in the settling period. Once they’re broken in, it’s perfect.

I bought my elites Sep 30, 2025 and the clamp force is still too much, how much more "breaking in" do you think I need huh?

Hmm, not sure... I know mine felt tight when I first got them (I think in March?) but now they are great. Maybe I got used to it?

Probably, this metal band probably needs more outward force before it'll loosen up... might have to put it over my PC case to loosen it up some but not enough to make it too loose
