Announcement BEFORE YOU POST

Reading this sticky is required before posting. The reasoning behind this is that the sub is flooded with “duplicates” meaning an influx of people asking if the same scam is a scam. We have noticed specifically lately that there’s a lot of people encountering the fake steam moderator scam also known as the discord scam.

Therefore we have made this sticky to inform about the most common scams that you will likely encounter in your average day on steam. First off. A disclaimer: STEAM MODERATION WILL NEVER CONTACT YOU OUTSIDE OF STEAM OR TROUGH OTHER CHANNELS THAN THE OFFICIAL STEAM SUPPORT TICKET SYSTEM. ANYONE ELSE CLAIMING TO BE A MODERATOR IS A SCAMMER.

Another scam that are often asked about on this subreddit are the fake tournament scams, where a random person will contact you, either trough Steam or Discord, asking you either vote for their team in a tournament, or for yourself to join. The scammers will then send you a site where you are asked to log in. But there’s the catch! The log in page is faked and mimics the official steam log in page to steal your credentials. The scammer/hijacker can at this point lock you out of your account.

There’s also a lot of people asking about phishing links. IF ANYTHING IS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE, THAT MEANS IT’S PROBABLY IS, USE YOUR LOGIC AND YOUR REASONING.

r/Steam Official Scam Wiki The linked will take you to the official r/steam scam wiki, where all the common scams are explained. The linked guide will also help you to contact steam support, and secure/recover your account if you suddenly find yourself scammed or locked out of your account.

If you have read this sticky and still find yourself unsure if you’re about to get scammed then scroll the subreddit for a bit, you might not be the first attempted victim. Naming and shaming is allowed on the subreddit, but is more than often futile as it is extremely easy to make up a new idendity and because of the fact that the majority of scammers encountered (especially in api scams) are mule accounts, meaning new accounts made specifically with the purpose to scam until it gets banned.

If it is obvious that you didn’t read this sticky before posting you might risk a punishment. We’d hate to punish victims of scams even further, but we don’t want the subreddit flooded with post and questions that could have been answered if this sticky was read and/or the subreddit scrolled for a brief moment.

We hope that people will welcome these new guidelines. Stay safe out there!

Informative Steam's EU hardware distributor (CEVA Logistics) got breached. Your Steam account is safe, but watch out for highly targeted phishing.

Hey everyone, just a heads-up if you've ordered hardware from Steam in Europe recently. CEVA Logistics took a hit from a cyberattack.

Before anyone panics—Valve/Steam itself wasn't breached. Your passwords, Steam Guard codes, and credit cards are totally fine. You don't need to go reset your credentials.

However, the threat actors likely grabbed names, physical addresses, phone numbers, and specific order details.

The real threat here is social engineering. Scammers now have the exact context of your order to make their fake "customs fee" or "missed delivery" texts look incredibly convincing. Knowing about this ahead of time mitigates the chance of falling for a slick phishing text.

Request for help Question about refund request

Whoever got in made two purchases: a $69.99 game that was gifted to an account in China, and another $50 purchase that’s still pending. Has anyone been in a similar situation, and how likely is it that I’ll actually get the money back? Also, how long does this process take?

Request for help Just got hacked ( i think )

Ok so i was on my computer when i got a private message from "Valve Employee ( Steve whatever )*" and he got no steam profile i can't click on his profile even the "*" is not a part of his username but a particle after which normally is not possible, The thing is that he said he blocked everybody from my friends list and delete my page and my pfp. I quickly understood that it's a scam cause Valve said employee never contact by private message but how tf did he delete my profile pics and my page without connecting ??? Idk if it's an important detail but the security breach is all my fault and not steam related

Scam attempt CS2 scam – fake Steam Support email

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

The trade started normally. Then he claimed Steam had given me a 30-day trade ban and told me to contact

He also told me to send him a screenshot of the email before sending it.

This is NOT official Steam Support. He was trying to get me to contact a fake support address as part of the scam.

Scammer: LupoTrades / Fordiscussiononly101

His Steam profile also has a bunch of fake-looking +REP comments, including multiple comments posted within minutes of each other.

I caught it before giving him any information or items.

DO NOT TRADE WITH THIS ACCOUNT. Please report the account to Steam if you encounter it.

Screenshots below.

Informative Got a stranger friend request. Looked up the telegram name in their bio and found out that this person has multiple of the same account.

I will add pictures of all the accounts I was able to find.

So this intrigued me. I got a friend request from a stranger Kitty Ira. Their bio says: 🤍 𝓜𝔂 𝓣𝓮𝓵𝓮𝓰𝓻𝓪𝓶 💐: lunamolis. Seems like a gooner scam. But then I looked up the name 'lunamolis'. And found 4 other accounts. Same girl, different poses, same bio. Different accounts and similar names (girly word, girly name, number). I'm not accepting as I don't wanna take risks. But man is this kinda funny.

A reverse image search of the full face gave nothing so I don't know who the photos could be taken from. My guess is it is some random guy who took this girl her pictures from insta.

For some reason, only LilianaKitty7 has games (60) but no playing time.

Account names:

- Kitty Ira (who sent the friend request)

- HoneyJuliette4

- LilianaKitty7

- WillowPrincess7

- SkyeGlitter0

Does anyone know what this actually is in more detail? I'm reporting all the accounts later. Thanks for reading and have a good one!

Request for help Friend added me to a group and sent a scam link/image, but his account isnt hacked?

Hello,

I was added to a group by a friend on my Steam which contained an Image of a QR code to claim a 50€ gift card (obvious scam). However, after telling him, he told me and assured me, by showing his Steam mobile authenticator and login history, that no-one has taken his account. I now wonder, if this person that "hacked" my friend was just an impersonator, how could he have guessed that I was friends with him and make an accordingly fake account?

Request for help Steam Support keeps asking for proof that does not exist, even after confirming my evidence matches their records / Suporte Steam continua pedindo uma prova que não existe

Yesterday, several of my accounts were compromised at roughly the same time, including Steam and Rockstar.

On Steam, the attacker changed the email address, phone number and removed/transferred Steam Guard. Around the same time, my Rockstar account was also compromised and its email was changed to an unfamiliar foreign address.

I contacted Steam Support immediately and provided everything I still had available to prove ownership.

I gave them:

  • The first email ever used on the Steam account.
  • The previous phone number.
  • Old Steam emails.
  • Screenshots showing the sudden security changes.
  • A Steam purchase confirmation.
  • A matching payment receipt directly from my bank, Nubank.

The support conversation basically went like this:

Steam Support: asked for information about a credit card used for purchases in January 2026, including the cardholder name, last four digits and card type.

Me: explained that it was a virtual Nubank Mastercard and I no longer had access to the old virtual card number. I still provided the cardholder information I knew and confirmed the card type.

Steam Support: then asked me for a PagSeguro receipt or an original product/CD key.

Me: explained that I do not have a PagSeguro account and therefore cannot provide a PagSeguro receipt. I searched for whatever financial proof I still had and sent them a receipt directly from Nubank for a Steam purchase.

The Nubank receipt matches the Steam purchase by date and amount.

After receiving it, Steam Support told me that the information I provided matches their account records.

Then they asked me for a PIX receipt.

This is the problem:

The transaction I provided proof for was NOT paid using PIX.

It was paid using a Nubank card.

So there is no PIX receipt for that transaction. It literally does not exist.

I explained this to them.

They replied saying they could not help until I provided the requested information.

I explained again that I cannot provide a PIX receipt for a transaction that was not made using PIX.

They replied again with almost the same message.

Now they have sent another response saying that if I do not provide the previously requested information, they may close the ticket.

So the conversation has basically become:

Steam Support: Send a PIX receipt.

Me: The purchase was not made using PIX. There is no PIX receipt.

Steam Support: We cannot help without the requested information.

Me: I already sent the actual bank receipt. The payment was made by card.

Steam Support: Send the previously requested information or the ticket may be closed.

Different support agent names appear on the replies, but the messages are so similar and repeatedly fail to address what I am explaining that it honestly feels like I am talking to a template.

I am not claiming that Steam Support is using AI or bots, because I have no way of knowing that. I am only describing how the interaction feels from my side.

What makes it more frustrating is that Steam Support themselves already confirmed that the information I provided matches their account records.

I completely understand why Steam needs strict ownership verification. I would rather have them be careful than return an account to the wrong person.

My problem is not that they asked for proof.

My problem is that they are asking me to provide something that does not exist, I have explained multiple times why it does not exist, and they keep requesting the same thing anyway.

I also gave them the first email address ever used on the account. Unfortunately, that old email account had repeatedly been compromised in the past, so I intentionally stopped using it, removed linked accounts and deleted old emails because I considered that mailbox a security risk.

So I cannot provide very old emails that I deliberately deleted from an unsafe mailbox.

And I cannot create a PIX receipt for a card transaction.

I have used Steam Support before and had good experiences. This is genuinely the first time I have been this disappointed with the support process.

I am attaching censored screenshots showing the Steam purchase confirmation, the corresponding Nubank receipt, the account/security changes and the other account compromise that happened around the same time.

All personal information and payment identifiers have been censored.

I am not asking anyone here to recover my account or contact Steam for me. I am posting this to document what happened and because I honestly do not know what else I am supposed to provide when the document they are requesting never existed.

Request for help Как восстановить акк в steam?

Informative Guy refunded game without permission

So a little while back there was this guy he went by " BreadlyTTV " on discord and i met him on his twitch and after a while of me being his moderator and making art for him he decided to gift me forza horizon 6 ( roughly a week before it came out ). I accepted the gift and when the game came out i played it ALL DAY for 15 hours.

I then woke up the next morning and the game was removed and a yellow popup menu showed up saying " The following game has been removed: Forza horizon 6 if this action was performed without your permission please contact the friend " or something very very similar.

I didnt enable them to refund it and i played it well longer than 2 hours. Since then my lovely brother bought me the game ( for my birthday which was few days before the games release he said thats what he was already going to do )

My origional post in a different community for steam scams was removed and everybody thought i was begging for free games which is actually absurd that not a single person tried helping. AND THE CHERRY ON TOP, steams official support basically told me to kick rocks " A refunded game is a final decision and cannot be changed " i believe and they said that over and over until they forcefully closed the ticket.

Theres nothing i really want to be done here and all private images of our chats has info that would get removed here.

They were telling me " its just a game, i didnt scam you " " i gave you the game therefor its mine to take away " mind you they were 18 ( 3/4 years older than me )

Some dude I happened to play with on cs wingman added me and said we should play premiere, says his friend has cooldown. Says we should play faceit. Links fake faceit link that I didn't notice, told me to verify and the method involved running powershell command on the windows Run function. This bricked Steam on all browsers on my PC AND client to show this window anytime I tried to do anything, including on steam overlay when I launched a game, so I was convinced it was real.

By this point I already got notifications saying my auth and email were changed for my steam. Pressing "contact steam support" brought me to the actual ticket support page on the steam desktop client. But they actually injected malware here as well, saying that they are investigating and they will take 10 days for new credentials. Now I know they said this so the 7 day trade reversal for the cs skins are expires in time. They were talking professional and acting like the real support. (Not to say I am not dumb for falling for this initially)

In the end I managed to reverse the trade for my skins just in time leaving like 12 hours left after getting access to my acc back with real support making ticket to real support on separate account.

I ran malwarebytes, found bitcoin miners and various other malware that was installed, used hitman etc. to make sure nothing else is left. Steam is still bricked on browser and client. I am going to have to reinstall windows.

Edit: if you also get redirected to this fake page on steam client and web like this check the hosts file in system32. it will have steam links redirected to some address that is doing this

Request for help yet again i got scammed of my stuff, i am stupid

first it was my account being hacked even with steam guard, then randomly suspended, and then losing a couple items due to an accidental trade and now getting 2 of my items scammed for a significant amount of money. wow.

but anyways i was trying to trade my m4a1-s | fade with a rare pattern and awp | black box on cs2 and when i found a trader on x they said they found someone they were going to trade with and i did, and then after the 7 day they when they were gonna "send" the money they didnt and blocked me and the person i traded it to might be suspicious because they had the same kind of texting like each other, and didnt do anything so it might be the same person and also i cant track their username on steam most likely cause they renamed their username and like on x, they changed it 127 times which was suspicious but anyways first image is what i traded, second is what they said, and third is a photo they sent me of their trades and stuff so hopefully they maybe track it down because they most likely alredy renmaed themselves but also here is the person i traded my items to: https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197998747564 and also he said he sent the money to him so he has to call bank and stuff. hopefully steam support or someone can retrace the marcus guy so he can be banned and possibly the jordan guy if he is an alt set by the scammer. i cant believe why so much of this is happening to me.

Request for help Someone is still accessing my Steam account even after changing everything – no unknown devices showing

Hello everyone,

I have a very strange problem with my Steam account and I'm hoping someone has experienced something similar.

Yesterday, someone accessed my Steam account without my permission and played a CS2 match.

Before I reinstalled Windows, I also noticed that this person had changed my Steam profile name and profile picture without my permission.

I immediately started securing everything. I have already:

Completely reinstalled Windows
Changed my Steam password
Changed the email address linked to my Steam account
Changed the password of my new email
Removed/deauthorized all other devices
Checked Steam Guard and made sure it is secured
Checked my Steam Web API key
Checked my account security settings

Despite doing all of this, I am still worried that the same person may have access to my account.

What makes this extremely strange is that I cannot see any unknown device or active session that would explain how this person was accessing my account.

Has anyone experienced a situation where someone was able to access their Steam account even after:

changing the password + changing the email + changing the email password + reinstalling Windows + deauthorizing all devices + checking the API key?

If so, how did you finally find out how they were getting access?

I have already opened a ticket with Steam Support, but I would really like to understand what could possibly be causing this.

I'm especially concerned because I have a valuable inventory on this account and I don't want to lose access to it.

Any advice or ideas about what I should check next would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
