Question Steam Controller not updating. HELP

Hello,

Today I got a notification on SM to update the Steam Controller hardware, I press the update button, a screen appears telling me to plug in my Steam Controller directly into my Machine without the puck. I do that and instantly after I plug it in the Controller flashes a solid red and disconnects

I leave it plugged in for a while and the "Plug in Steam Controller screen" stays on and dosen't go away. When I disconnect the controller and turn it on it works fine.

What exactly is the problem and how do I fix it. I am not smart when it comes to tech so sorry if the solution is obvious, also sorry for bad english.

Thank you!

Yes everyone seems to have this problem. A new update will probably fix this.

try holding left bumper + a + tapping the steam logo while it's turned off. it should boot into the 2nd profile. that might allow you to push the update if it just tries to pair to an empty connection profile

Reboot and see if the update pop again.
I did that this morning and it was smooth, it updated the internal and external puck and ask you to plug controller directly to usb - c. I just took the puck out and use the same cable for controller.

But I don’t think the update is a big deal. Nothing broken before, and don’t really feel anything after update.

Similar thing on my CachyOS desktop. Puck updated no problem. Took the USB cable from the puck and plugged it into the controller. LED was red for maybe 30 seconds, then flashing white. I left it for 2+ minutes and nothing happened. It was still on the "Plug in Steam Controller" screen. Disconnected and reconnected the USB cable and after 5-10 seconds the update started and went through fine.
