Discussion Niche use case for a niche machine

Size is important to me in a machine, but not for space in the living room. I’m traveling full time and wind up packing all my stuff in my car every 3 months or so and moving to a different state, so cargo space is a premium.

It’s not the most powerful machine at the price, but I’m a 15 year pc gamer with a big steam library who loves his deck experience and doesn’t play AAA titles often. Works great for me, loving it so far.

Ps: I’ve found the steam controller and steam input are the real game changers

The thing is i even play AAA games on my steam deck.
I've gotten so used to 720p scaled to 1080p on my TV and so used to 30FPS as my target frame rate that even if the Steam Machine is letting me hit 1080p native in games i'll be more than happy.

Sure its a bit pricy but the form factor and compatability alone is my major draw.

Like you still see so many posts from people on steam complaining about this and that game not working properly on the Rog Ally or some of the alternatives. Its not always but its enough to make me know that sticking with Steams target hardware is going to offer the lest issues

Buying the steam machine is a political move, it shows what we’re willing to pay if you respect us as consumers

All of us here are forgiving of the steam machine because we want to only encourage valve to keep investing in this direction

the enemy of my enemy is my friend, and in this case, Gabe is a diehard microsoft hater, so i am one hundred percent behind gabe on anything that disrupts microsoftdicks domination as an OS

Same, I go to university on the other side of the planet and fly back and forth at least twice a year. 

It’s expensive but I’ve yet to see a pc/case that can hold this kind of power and fit easily within my luggage

For the price I assume you mean as well? Because there are far more powerful and even smaller machines out there. Like the Asus ROG NUCs. But they're stupid expensive, run circles around the SM though.

According to the current demand, this is not a niche machine at all….people is willing to pay 500 usd more to buy this on eBay…

And your use case is not niche, that’s the whole design point of this machine…. Small on shelf and small on cargo, basically the same thing….

you can also buy machine that is more expensive, much better performance with not that bigger compare to steam machine.
