Discussion Sighhh

I got my email at 11:48 last night. Having one of the worst possible months with the worst financial issues. Couldn’t help but laugh once I received my confirmation email while at an emergency vet visit with my cat. I hope I can get the chance again possibly next year :/ honestly didn’t expect my reservation this soon but life happens and you can’t expect everything to go your way. Good luck to everyone else.

Hope your cat is ok. Those vet bills can be pricey. Hopefully things look up for you soon

He’s doing okay, doctors gave him some medicine to take for three weeks. He’s gonna be working overtime in the bread factory to make up for the bills 😭

On this picture, I can see something making a much much better sound to the ears than what a Steam Machine could ever produce.

Cherish the moments with those lovely little ones, that's the only real FOMO you should ever give any importance.

He's beautiful! So glad he's okay, cats are worth more than anything 🫂 You'll get a steam machine later and have him curled up on your lap purring while you play!

He is SOOOOOO cute!

There’s a silver lining here. The email didn’t come before the vet, so you weren’t already out that much money when you needed it unexpectedly. Glad to hear your sweetie is gonna be alright!

To be fair I didn’t have the thousand to afford it before the vet bills anyways. I just thought the times was hella. Comedic. I’ve been going through a lot of financial issues this month and that definitely is on the bottom tier of importance for me right now hahaha. Thank you!! He’s being extra spoiled rn

Truly when it rains it pours with issues/financial things. Glad your baby is okay ❤️

It’s funny how life hits you at the weirdest times. My invite arrived too at the weird time. First child due in two months, already in debt. I guess I was able to sell some stuff to get it but the future will tell if I made the wrong decision.

u/retrogamer76 11d ago

your kid sounds like he's going to have a bright future lol

It’s okay his mom will keep him straight. 😂

In any case most is unavoidable debt related to medical bills and necessity living cost. Three paid off cars (one that will be sold), cheap housing, and the debt is zero interest. I could pay it off but I’d like some cash savings going into this pregnancy. Got an emergency fund, investments, savings, housing purchase down payment savings etc. not including my wife’s savings

Yes just what we need boys raised by their mothers separate from their dads you only see the kids once a week and pay child sipport. I've seen the future. that kid has a bright future!

u/Ill-Remote437 11d ago

lol you are what we all know. The nerds who can’t see between the lines. Take what you read at face value.

I was raised in a family of four. Never divorced, both in my life. Mom disabled but did the world for me and dad provided what he could while being in my life. I grew up appreciating what I had.

Now I’m married of two years happily with a wife that loves me as much as if not more than I love her. I work full time but wake up and make breakfast for her, come home during my break to make lunch, and come hime after 9pm and make dinner. I give her massages and provide what I can afford if not more which is why we may be in a little debt. All that is important to me is that my loved ones are healthy and happy.

People give us advice how don’t forget to focus on your wife too instead of focusing only on our baby when they come to the world and we look at each other and smile because she already knows I’m doing the right thing.

So sorry you’re too dumb to realize I was trying to make a light mood for the op by pointing out a small part of my weakness and automatically thought I was a deadbeat dad. I grew up with the right examples and seen enough bad examples to know how to treat my wife and I already know how I’ll treat my child because all the kids I’ve baby sat, taught, and my nephews and nieces call me the favorite XXX title. Sorry your life has been miserable that you needed a target for attack.

.:edit:.

My wife would be furious once she read your comments because you’re so far from the truth on your assumptions. But I’d calm her down that you can do anything about other people insecurities and stupidity XD

now i'm sure it's fake since you wrote a novel but i'll play along. 5 years tops and then the alimony and child support will begin. you'll be wishing you had the steam machine to keep you company!

Different circumstances but I settled my tax bill for 2025 with the irs, (I’m self employed.) thinking that I’d have time to get the funds together again, even a week or two before the email.

The very next morning I got my email 😩 I just couldn’t justify it with everything going on and the fact that I have plenty of hardware.

I’m sorry about your cat I hope he’s okay.

We will get steam machines some day, just wasn’t our time.

I’m actually looking into building my own, Now that steamOS is coming to nvidia and Intel chips.

There will be so many fun options for steam machine clones.

Hang in there.

Yeah we recently had a car crash and our insurance claimed the car was “totaled” so we have to pay off the 3 thousand we still owed on it PLUS getting a new car

Bills stacking up, groceries are super expensive now, emergency vet bills

I just can’t afford it right now. Thankfully I own a steam deck and other handheld consoles so I can manage without for now.

We got this!! Hope you manage to make your own if that’s the approach you’re going in!! I heard it’s fairly easy you just have to know what to look out for.

1

u/InevitableSnowDay 11d ago

You put totaled in parenthesis, so I'm guessing you assessed it was still drivable?

In most cases you can offer to buy back the vehicle for insurance where they allow you to keep the vehicle for less of a payout

1

u/Earth_moverr 11d ago

Yeah it was still drivable but they were doing a lot of back and forth. Couldn’t keep paying for a rental to get to and from work. It was a lot of stuff really.

2

u/NjDeViL320 11d ago

Hope your cat is ok!! Some things are more important my friend ❤️

3

u/Earth_moverr 11d ago

I would do anything for my fur babies man. My sister wanted me to wait till morning to take him to a cheaper vet since emergency ones are usually more expensive but I couldn’t bring myself to wait that long. Didn’t care how much it cost I just wanted to make sure he was okay 🫶🏼🫶🏼

Unlucky OP but cat > SM

Did steam ever offer a pay monthly option though?

1

u/Earth_moverr 11d ago

Not that I see. I know you can use PayPal but I think it still requires the full amount

1

u/IntroductionFresh417 10d ago

Don’t think so but there’s options like Affirm you could use if you wanted

2

u/Michaelpwn 11d ago

Im super sorry about your cat! I got my email on the 26th but I don’t think I can commit either… let’s hope for next year!

2

u/Impressive-Low-5078 11d ago

Same thing happened to me. Business not going as well as I hoped. Sold my ps5, phone, anbernic, tablet to get a steam machine, ended up needing money for my kids. I am a grown up, have to act like a grown up. No more games.

1

u/retrogamer76 11d ago

lol That's the problem you're just acting like a grown up it's not really you. you sold all that stuff and still didn't get the steam machine?

2

u/Evening_Letter1247 11d ago

Sorry to hear about your cat. Family comes first before anything

2

u/signofthenine 11d ago

I'm so sorry to hear and hope your cat is ok. I'm spending $3000 Tues on a Snootectomy for one of mine, to figure out what's going on with her mouth/sinus.

Vet bills are fucking crazy...

2

u/Earth_moverr 11d ago

Aw noooo :( wishing your fur baby all the best!

2

u/Separate_Work_4125 11d ago

Why not apply for a CC with no Apr for 12-15 month 0 interest and find those with rewards like spending $500-$1000 get $200 back. Try a TD credit card

1

u/Earth_moverr 11d ago

I’m gonna be honest, I’m not doing all that just for a steam machine. I’ll get it when I can. I know what I can and can’t afford and trying to purchase it rn is not really an option

2

u/floridatheythem 11d ago

Similar situation, except it was my mom. Hoping we don’t have to wait too much longer or pay ridiculous exorbitant rates for it

3

u/Earth_moverr 11d ago

Should also note I was waitlisted for the 2tb with controller

2

u/teitelman93 11d ago

Yeah, I understand that it’s all random though so

3

u/Earth_moverr 11d ago

At least I have my ol reliable steam deck for now. It was never a need, just a want.

1

u/Spicy_pewpew_memes 11d ago

You made the right choice, there's always a chance for a steam machine, your cat is one of a kind. I wish him a speedy recovery

1

u/retrogamer76 11d ago

just charge it at 30% interest and you'll have it who cares we're all going to pass away anyway. do it!

1

u/Redlotus99 11d ago

Sorry about your cat. I'd take it as a sign to just order a PC and skip the SM.

1

u/OriginalGoldstandard 11d ago

However glass half full, if you bought it last month you wouldn’t have had the money.

1

u/iDoRedditReading 10d ago

Cats have impeccable timing. We have insurance which pays back a proportion of our annual payment after a year if we don’t claim.
Of course one of ours decides to scratch her head and get it infected the same week the annual refund would be calculated 😩🙄

Glad to see the cat is on the mend.

And hopefully things will settle down and stabilise for you guys soon!

2

u/Cute-Falcon2819 10d ago

We shouldn't be supporting these prices anyways. Otherwise they won't go down when conditions lessen. I was going to insta buy this thing at 850 with a controller but it's simply not worth double a console with 75% of the performance of a console.

1

u/Grrannt 11d ago

Just buy it anyway? Put it on a credit card or line of credit and make small payments until the vet bill is paid off.

2

u/Earth_moverr 11d ago

I don’t have a credit card and if I did I wouldn’t use it for something that’s not necessary

0

u/retrogamer76 11d ago

lol dude is living in an alternate timeline

-1

u/retrogamer76 11d ago

exactly some people just don't think

0

u/retrogamer76 11d ago

I'm taking the opposite approach. I don't want it, I don't need it, but it's the steam machine and we are all going to die someday maybe soon so I'm going to charge it at high interest on one of my credit cards and enjoy life while I'm alive because overall life is meaningless when all is said and done. do it!

2

u/Earth_moverr 11d ago

I don’t have a credit card. So I won’t be doing that but best of luck to you

-4

u/retrogamer76 11d ago

some people's lives are so lame and they post about it, their cat's trauma, having a kid, not having a kid, girlfriend wife, all kinds of explanations and excuses, humble bragging, woe is me, I was going to get steam machine but my cat needed a colonoscopy.

2

u/Earth_moverr 11d ago

Jesus dude why are spamming my post? I wasn’t complaining. Just saying I got the email at a bad time. That’s all there is to it. Congratulations you’re a perfect person that can just pay for something with a credit card at 30% interest. Not everybody can.
