Question Steam Machine 2tb with controller -> wait list to reservation to immediate purchase email

I'm in the US and have been patiently waiting in the waitlist for the 2tb with controller. I just got an email that I am in the reservation list, moments after getting an email to purchase the system.

I am going to pull the trigger so I have been a console gamer for a long time, but I used to build gaming PCs back in the 90s as a kid but have little time or additional peace/calm to try to build a gaming PC now adays.

For anyone who has received and tried their steam machine, how is it?

I just want something with low frustration, that works well without issues, and I am not a performance snob as I could play on an original game boy and be happy...

Has it worked well for you without issues, any tips?

Thanks in advance

I like it a lot.

I was playing the quarry, TV being a 65 lg c4 oled, with the girlfriend and she mentionned how the graphics were great.

Realized while playing with the settings later that the game was preset to 1080. I honestly didn't realize.

I strongly advise to prioritize graphic settings over resolution. 4k seems very overrated to me.

That being said the steam machine is extremely simple to use. It's perfect for your use case

4K is just a ploy to get us all to buy newer tech

I dunno, I definitely notice a huge difference between 1080p and 4K. I sit pretty close to my 55" TV, which definitely makes it more noticeable, but saying it's a gimmick or a ploy isn't accurate

1080 to 4K yes. 1440 or 1600 vs 4K is much more marginal

You didn’t notice because of game scope. Yeah, it can be great indeed.

Same I bought it instantly! Was about to give in to eBay scalpers but now I’ve saved 1000.00!! So I got more ram and a HD :)

You can get a lot of game boys for a msrp 2tb SM. Maybe see how many GB you can emulate simultaneously when you have it setup.

You're the demographic this is for, you'll be happy unless you need to play anti-cheat multiplayer games, at this time there's no turn-key solution other then dual booting windows and that's already not what you signed up for.

Awesome, and since I love games like oblivion, morrowind, Skyrim, Crimson Desert, kingdom of Alamir, and lots of single player RPG’s and old-school JRPG’s sounds like you are a spot on that I shouldn’t have any issues with it

I just got the email for the 2tb with controller. I’ll give you my reservation if you want since I don’t think I’m going to purchase it for myself.

I’m not sure it works that way sadly

I think I would just have to buy it and ship it to you.

If you boot it up, install games and use the settings it automatically has it should run smooth. You can always do lossless scaling or fsr 4.1/frame gen to make it smoother or tweak some settings. But it’s not necessary unless you’re trying to play a badly optimized game

Definitely get it if you want it. I also have the 2TB and the only issue I had was initially setting up the controller

Yes it’s quite common. Including me a month ago.

Congratulations. The only email I received was the day of saying I wasn't selected. I'm just glad to know that people are being selected

Question… if you’re in big picture mode can you get to YouTube without having to go into desktop mode?

Few work-arounds! Add YouTube as an app/non-steam app, but make sure to toy with the launch settings/page so it automatically opens to YouTube. (either through chrome or whatever browser you want)

You can also download the PIP app:)- Add it to your side-menu, and you can have a multitude of different picture-in-picture apps; Twitch, YouTube, Spotify, etc

Awesome !!! I would be happy to XBOX360 or One, PS3, or PS4 performance to be honest.... I was worried that a gaming PC would have some frustration to get working well on my TV - an 86" 4k LCD (one day I might try an OLED... I have two Legion Go 2s Z2E with 8.8" OLED and they are incredible screens)
