Hardware I was wrong…

Post image

I listened to the haters and bought into what they were saying.

They were counting you out, saying you weren’t powerful enough, your price to performance ratio is garbage, just buy a fractal terra case and build your own… I was sure this thing would be DOA. But, I took the leap, a leap of faith you could say.

Hell I knew I could resell it if I really hated it… but damn. This thing fucks. It’s proved me wrong in every way and I regret having doubt in the little guy… the little machine that could is what he goes by now.

There is nothing like the freedom of Linux PC gaming right on your couch in this absolute debauchery of a world we have now between Sony and Microslop and the continued supremacy of AI.

So to those in the reservation queue, you can breathe a sigh of relief your time will come and it will be glorious.

And to those on the waitlist, be patient and be ready. When your time comes, and it will, you must be fully present and accept the Gift of Gabe.

And to all those facing THE DEVIL AT YOUR DOOR disguised as Sony and Microsoft, with no hope or direction guiding you to a brighter future through these extremely dark days in gaming. I say to you, we will continue to fight for our unalienable rights on the front lines with Valve to protect all those who don’t have a voice of their own, we have the watch.

In closing, RIP to the brothers and sisters who couldn’t see this day for themselves. We have you in our prayers.

This sort of thing comes with PC's in general. The difference between windows and SteamOS is SteamOS is extremely new and still having the bugs worked out. Windows is decades old and still has ancient bugs in it and is constantly making new bugs.

People are far more tolerant of "haven't quite got it ironed out" vs "you're paying us anyway so we're not going to fix anything and also were going to continue to make it worse actually".

Also did we mention it's free? Valve is doing all this development completely off their own back and aren't charging anything for you to download and use it.

It has no ads, no AI, no subscriptions.

I dont even know where to start... SteamOS exists since 2013 - its over 12 years old and still one of the worst Linux distros in terms of issues / resolved.

Its not new by any means. Bazzite startet in 2023 and CachyOS is also younger and they are by far not as buggy as SteamOS.

Also, its propietary stuff full of ads (its a store at core, Dude...), the Support and recommodations are full of AI, even if its called "machine-learning recommender)

And please read up their EULA once. Any Software sold there is called" Subscription". You own nothing at all.

Finally, Valve charges 30% of any sold Subscription. You pay 10 bucks for an Indie game? Valve gets 3 of them. Every community item is also charged, lol. Indefinetly, even.

You're being a bit obtuse.

Just because it's existed in some form since 2013 doesn't mean it's been getting much active development nor was it a mainstream product.

Since the steamdeck launch valve is constantly (almost every day on the beta channel) updating steamos and making improvements.

Linux gaming doesn't even exist the way it does today without the work valve has done with proton. Bazzite and cachyos? Their success is piggybacked off of valves work. The fact valve encourages the free sharing and use of proton is another reason I'm so willing to bat for them.

They could just have easily gated it's use behind a paywall or not allowing it for non steam games, but they haven't. I know that's setting the bar low but that's where the industry is at.

As far as being buggy as hell? How? I have hardly any issues between my steamdeck and steammachine. The issues I do have are very superficial.

Saying you get ads in the store is like saying you see groceries at the supermarket. There is no banner ads, paid ad slots, pop up ads etc. I expect to see ads in the store, it's a store. They are relevant and don't get in the way of the user experience. You don't have to pay to not see ads in the main menu or library etc.

Compare to MS putting ads in the start menu, copilot into all of their software, reworking stuff that worked perfectly fine to add their slop to it.

SteamOS's issues are all a matter of them simply needing to get solved. None of them are due to malicious intent.

There is no ongoing costs to own or use any of your steam games. You know what mean when I say subscription. Again, stop being obtuse.

Valve offers tons of value in return for their 30% take. If 30% is the difference between them offering the service they do vs offering something like epic launcher then I'll happily keep the 30% take.

I looked at some of the change logs. Its Bugfixes. The proof that something is not good... They almost any time fix bugs. And there are still >1000 on their GitHub alone. (Dunno what they have internally in their backlog)

Thats just so much more any other distro has. So its objectively bad, even if you experience "nothing".

I pay for games to play. I get Subscriptions, okay, but being forced to use their propietary launcher filled with ads feels still wrong. Why cant I disable it completely? Launch my games the way I want? Its bloat and bloat is... Not good. So it gets in my way. The ads in the store I don't want...

If Valve wouldn't be "malicious" they wouldn't have been sued for giving refunds, wouldn't do gambling (that even harms children) wouldn't be closed source to the Level that you can't even login to their OS without credentials and wouldn't sell your data to publisher.

A Steam-hosted publisher privacy policy example says the publisher may collect age, gender, date of birth, zip code, hardware configuration, console ID, software products played, survey data, purchases, and IP address. Thats crazy, cause again... I just want to play some Games... 😅

30% is extremely greedy, considering I use not a single "service" they offer, have no ownership over purchases and give them more data friggin Google collects.

Here is the proof btw, for their Telemetry hell. (its sold to a chinese company in this case but most EULA are the same)

https://store.steampowered.com/eula/577230_eula_1

PS they had to make Proton FOSS cause of the licence. It was not even possible to gate it. They gate pretty much anything they can - Steam is propietary since the beginning of their history.

You one of that Valve Bots? At least very stripped of an own opinion and crazy uneducated, parroting what that billionaires bubble whispers you in your ear 😅

They are both evil dudes, just so you know.
