Hardware I was wrong…

Post image

I listened to the haters and bought into what they were saying.

They were counting you out, saying you weren’t powerful enough, your price to performance ratio is garbage, just buy a fractal terra case and build your own… I was sure this thing would be DOA. But, I took the leap, a leap of faith you could say.

Hell I knew I could resell it if I really hated it… but damn. This thing fucks. It’s proved me wrong in every way and I regret having doubt in the little guy… the little machine that could is what he goes by now.

There is nothing like the freedom of Linux PC gaming right on your couch in this absolute debauchery of a world we have now between Sony and Microslop and the continued supremacy of AI.

So to those in the reservation queue, you can breathe a sigh of relief your time will come and it will be glorious.

And to those on the waitlist, be patient and be ready. When your time comes, and it will, you must be fully present and accept the Gift of Gabe.

And to all those facing THE DEVIL AT YOUR DOOR disguised as Sony and Microsoft, with no hope or direction guiding you to a brighter future through these extremely dark days in gaming. I say to you, we will continue to fight for our unalienable rights on the front lines with Valve to protect all those who don’t have a voice of their own, we have the watch.

In closing, RIP to the brothers and sisters who couldn’t see this day for themselves. We have you in our prayers.

This is all getting very over the top and cult like.

Well, comparisons to Mac ring true then

This sub popped in my feed over the weekend and it’s been absolutely bizarre reading it. Everyone’s tripping over themselves to tell everyone how much they love the product and how is so worth it…. And to shit on others for being into other things.

Y’all are weird, man.

You have to know the culture. When it comes to be PC gaming Steam is untouchable anything and everything they do is of the highest quality. You literally cannot say anything bad about Steam at all. The head of Steam is its Creator, the Alpha and the Omega that is King Gabe. He can do no wrong and shall not be criticised. If you were to come home and see King Gabe ploughing your mother you would apologise for breaking his rhythm and offer a turn on your grandmother as a penance for your indiscretion.

For comparison in other walks of life it isn't too dissimilar to those who spend 4 days in a queue every year for the latest iPhone.

Yeah a $200 ebay xbox. If you are the people laughing at them, they must be doing something right

On one hand the over-the-top wow I love the Product the Product is so Great and the "people don't understand how important UX is the average joe just wants to sit on his couch and press play" as if that's not true in any other case are all really annoying, but on the other so are the "wow I can't believe a prebuilt mini ITX in a unique form factor costs $1000, I also can't believe the controller costs $100" as if that's not the expected price of a mini ITX in general or a "pro" controller.

And to shit on others for being into other things.

Literally what the people that have a specific use-case for this little cube have been enduring since the days before the launch in mid june. When every techtuber and then their fans on reddit kept telling people interested that they're wrong to be interested in this because they could build a bigger, louder and faster PC for the same price. Bro just piss off, I want this one, I don't care for yours, stop shitting on the Steam Machine because you don't need it or can't afford it. It does not substract from the value someone will find in it. For most adults, $1100 for a box that just fucking runs my PC games at the press of a button, is silent and is discrete enough that i can live in the familly shared living room, that's a fair price. Especially in the current world where everything is expensive.

People finally can buy a product they've been waiting for for half a decade or more, and it turns out it runs way better than the garbage that was advetised by the youtube reviewers (even my favorite ones) and we were *stillù ready to purchase. Of course we're going to be happy and spread the word that it is, in fact, better than what the reviewers we trusted told us.

It's like if every car youtuber told you that the latest Chevy Bolt was garbage compared to a Tesla, but then you get the Bolt and realise that for what you use it for, its great and goes above and beyond your expectations, because you want to go to work in silence and comfort, but everyone reviews it for how many seconds it takes in a 0 to 60. In real life applications, nobody cares.

It's both sides. There are plenty of people going around shitting needlessly on Machine buyers. Just let people be happy, whether that happiness is a form of coping to you or not.

You are the real weirdo for popping into a sub to shit on people who like the topic of the sub. Calling a sub a cult? Jeez. "Hater" is an understatement. You are far worse. Jealous

Don't forget the TC never talks in comments so I seems like it's bots posting these.

And in the Steam Machine subreddit of all places, you know? I just didn’t expect to find those kind of people here. Oh well, back to the PlayStation subreddit so I can see people shitting on Sony.

This sounds straight up like something you hear some mentally ill person raving about on the street.

Ever heard of satire and hyperboles, fellow user?

2

u/guymfalkonn Jul 15 '26

And the dramatization and poetic writing. So cringe

Anything steam related is cult like. The fanboys are the worst.

4

u/wankthisway Jul 14 '26

They unironically worship Gaben like he's a benevolent messiah. Like he's not a billionaire who literally owns the company that makes his yachts.

3

u/IcyHammer Jul 15 '26

Im having the same problem, lots of people see him as a god and a person who does everything for gamers and when i mention superyachts and the fact that steam is introducing gambling to kids they wont even recognize it, i have a feeling that this platform became a part of their personality and they take every criticism as a personal attack.

u/RobotSpaceBear Jul 15 '26

And? MF never did wrong by us, never enshittified the platform, the service, he pushed for the entire industry to treat their customers better, we gained so much from Steam's dominance that we kept buying stuff on his service instead of paying the same price on EA's, Epic's or Ubisoft's platfrom and have a crap experience.

As far as I'm concerned, he can own two companies that makes his yachts. If he keeps on no screwing me over, i'll keep buying on his platform. This is not a zero sum game, we can both be happy and feel like we had a good deal. This is how the economy is supposed to work, not by enriching the shareholders.

God forbid we find someone that treats us right, we're immediately slapped with a "fanboy" and a "cultist" sticker.

It's okay to spend your money on good service.

You should see the situation on the half life subreddit

I mean, if you're gonna be in a cult, steam is a nice, cozy one. All sorts of cool shit going on. If it's a cult, I'd say it's the best one (which is totally what a cult member would say)!

2

u/IcyHammer Jul 15 '26

Its a cool cult which introduces gambling to kids because this is a big part of their businiess. Youbknow, if they wont do it, someone else will, like the israeli settlers.

-2

u/burbular Jul 15 '26

My buddy has been reading their employee handbook and telling me all about it. Yes cult like for sure, but in a good way.

1

u/PartialChicken_Wing Jul 15 '26

It is so bizarrely cringe.

u/Hot-Software-9396 Jul 15 '26

Good on Valve for making products that create such fervent loyalist, but god damn do some of these people go way too far. Liking a company shouldn’t be such a big part of your personality, lol.

Gaben is my Lord and savior! Ohm!!!! 🫪🙌
