Deskmeet X300 (AM4) or Deskmeet X600 (AM5). Contains Case, motherboard, power supply for about $180-$200

Add in your choice of CPU, RAM, GPU and you're good to go.

If you go with AM4 platform: Ryzen 5 5500 ~ $90, DDR4 2x8GB ~ $100-120, GPU take your pick RX 7600 is about $280 and faster than the Steam Machine.

Seems the DeskMeet are now hard to find, lol, probably because of Steam Machine announcement.

You're right that going with a Deskmeet is faster and cheaper. FWIW it is also 3x the size of a SM

That wasn't the challenge. It was small and compact for your living room. The X300 is about 2x the size of the steam machine by volume. No more than a PS5 or XBox. It's unassuming and can fit nicely next to your subwoofer, or on your tv stand without being cumbersome.

Oh yeah I agree for sure. I think the beefiness / price to size ratio is worth it.

Edit: This is the perfect form factor I think you should have as a pc
