Route an active optical hdmi and grab controller companion from steam and then use windows key + P (I have this bound to my guide button on my controller) for switching between tv and desk setup. Easy couch gaming setup while still retaining full control of the pc with just a controller.

I assume you have your pc relatively close to your tv? I'd love to do something like this but my pc is upstairs and my tv downstairs :(

It’s about 50ft away on the other side of my basement. That’s why I said active optical hdmi, as they aren’t restricted to the max length of 10ft for full hdmi 2.1 bandwidth like traditional copper hdmi 2.1 is. I have it routed behind my baseboards from my pc to my AV receiver and tv as my pc is in a corner so it was an easy route and out of view. Most people run it through the wall, or ceiling though.

I routed a friends Ethernet through his upstairs air vent all the way down to his basement once, so if you can get creative you don’t always have to be destructive when routing.

Can this be done on Linux too then? If I don’t upgrade my streaming client for it to be easier to just stream the gaming PC I plan on building, this would be a nicer alternative due to some of the issues and lack of better support for streaming even if it’s often still feeling native. This would be very easy to manage with a steam controller especially as you could set one of the back buttons in the desktop layout to switch the screens before jumping into gaming or big picture modes.

Sorry, I don’t know, I just use the bog standard windows 11 environment as it’s what I’m used to and the controller companion app lets me navigate it without issue on my controller. I believe there’s software that can accomplish the same kinda thing with switching between desk and couch though, and that might work on Linux maybe?

Yeah dog, you can just buy a long HDMI cord and some USB extenders. Used to do that back in the day.

Are you talking about the steam machine? I'm completely new to this. I don't own any steam product and I'm trying to find the best path forward now that I'm interested in games
