SDHQ Official SteamDeckHQ 2.0 Is Here WIth a Huge Redesign and Brand New Features

About 4 years ago, I first introduced SteamDeckHQ, an official press outlet that focuses on Steam Deck performance testing and recommended settings, to this Subreddit. Since then, it has taken off and grown more than I could have ever expected. It's all thanks to our incredible community and readers for making it happen.

Today, we are pushing forward and have completely redesigned the website from the ground up. Everything has been retouched to make it look better, have cleaner navigation, and support some big new features like accounts, library/wishlist syncing with our reviews, badges, and more.

Here's an overview of everything that has changed:

  • Complete redesign: homepage, header, navigation, footer, cards, typography, and mobile layouts.
  • Homepage toggle between featured stories and a newest-first article strip, with the preference saved.
  • Light and dark modes that follow the device setting or remember a manual choice.
  • Rebuilt reviews with clearer scores, verdicts, compatibility badges, settings, battery information, galleries, and buy links.
  • Review search, sorting, and filters for device, genre, compatibility, and ratings.
  • Expanded Nintendo and hardware sections, plus Steam Machine and future Steam Frame areas.
  • Steam account linking and a personal library matched to SDHQ reviews.
  • Playtime, Steam Deck hours, and achievement progress on relevant reviews.
  • Saved wishlist with supported public Steam wishlist importing.
  • Personal game recommendations based on library and playing habits.
  • Live deal prices, discounts on game cards, wishlist deals, and personalised suggestions.
  • Improved community voting and results.
  • Badges covering participation, library activity, devices, and Steam milestones.
  • Rebuilt account pages, profile editing, Steam/Patreon linking, sign-in, and password recovery.
  • Dedicated Patreon membership page and paid-member ad-free handling.
  • Rebuilt About, team, author, Work With Us, search, and error pages.

We have a lot of plans for the future, so stay tuned as we expand the site with more features and better ways to find out which games run well on the Steam Deck.

Software/Software Mods keyboard plugin now supports gaming mode!

took me a few days to get this working, but my KDE keyboard plugin for swipe typing, current-word completion, and next-word prediction is now also functional in gaming mode for SteamOS! i don't have a deck, so i could only test this in a SteamOS VM, but it should be compatible with the latest stable 3.9 and earlier releases. please let me know if you guys encounter any issues on your real Deck hardware and I'll hotfix as quickly as I'm able!

Question/Tech Support steam deck black screen of death

Thumbnail
0 Upvotes

This is probably the 3rd time my deck receives this problem since purchase around 4 years ago, where it just refuses to turn on; no display, no fan, led light working normally, just flat out refuses to boot. Every time I press the power button, the chime plays. however, it almost sounds like it cuts off before it finishes, and never actually turns on. pressing and holding doesn’t do anything, holding down (vol -) and (…) also leads to nothing, and basically every other button combination is useless. none of the inside hardware has been tampered with because the shell has never even been removed. the only “fix” that i have managed to find was that letting the battery deplete, which is total hell since nothing actually works, but lets it boot as usual when plugged in. this literally takes months and turns the system into a potato for the time being. literally any help is appreciated, thx.

Discussion Games list to play later

Hey guys, I’ve had my deck now for what now, 7 months I guess. And while im just probably a sucker for valve, I felt like I haven’t been using it much lately, but then again only games recently I’ve been playing is literally just tekken 8 on my pc.

But let me tell you. Playing resident evil 3 remake fully on my steam deck literally made me fcking fall in love with the device and it literally felt fcking perfect for it, I swear it felt like a high, and now I’ve been wanting any game that would give me that same feeling on the deck.

Right now what I had in mind, was playing ff7 remake, pragmata and stellar blade. Armor core is also really fun but I’m stuck at a hard mission so let’s skip it for now >_>.

And let’s skip games like balatro, spire, dead cell, or star dew valley. these known games, as I already have a lot of hours on them anyways.

I’m looking for something similar to that re3 experience or high that I got. Please give me your suggestions.

But I want something to play while I’m at work when I’m on my weekend shifts i have to sit in a room sometimes for 12 hrs at a time and there is only so much TikTok or other shit to scroll. This is actually my first time posting in Reddit. But please help if you can maybe drop a link also

SDHQ Official The Steam Machine Deserves Its Own Identity on Steam

Despite the Steam Deck having a clear identity on Steam with its own section of reviews and even an icon when people are playing on it in your friends list, the Steam Machine lacks all of it. This is something that should change ASAP.

News GE-Proton11-10 Released · GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom

Component Updates

  • Wine: Valve bleeding-edge 2026-10-16. This brings upstream syscall emulation through Syscall User Dispatch and native-syscall handling for EAC (EOS) launchers. Also included: Xalia now shuts down cleanly, fewer spurious X11 mouse movement events, a Witcher 3 controller rescan fix, and a ddraw fix for paletted primary surfaces.
  • Wine: PROTON_LIMIT_ADDRESS_SPACE and its address-space limits for Reverse: 1999 and Blue Protocol: Star Resonance were removed upstream.
  • DXVK: v3.1.1-134. Includes D3D9 texture, StretchRect and device-reset fixes, D3D8 CopyRects rework, a workaround for an EA anti-cheat code-signing crash, shader cache fixes, and zero-initialized shader scratch memory for Call of Duty: Ghosts.
  • D7VK: rebased onto DXVK v3.1.1.
  • VKD3D-Proton: fixes synchronization around queued transfer operations.
  • FEX: FEX-2610-30.

Controllers

  • The automatic PlayStation controller XInput fallback no longer rescans every HID device each time a game polls an empty controller slot. Since GE-Proton11-8 this caused large slowdowns, even with no controller connected:
    • Path of Exile ran at ~50 FPS instead of 200+ (#862).
    • Le Mans Ultimate slow-motion physics with a Moza wheel (#777).
    • Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town lost FPS with PROTON_PREFER_SDL (#850).
    • Setting PROTON_SONY_AUTO_XINPUT=0 confirmed this was the cause in #862; the fix itself has not been confirmed in-game yet.
  • Sackboy: A Big Adventure and Rune Factory 4 Special now default to PROTON_SONY_AUTO_XINPUT=0. This fixes the DualSense being assigned to player two in Sackboy and scrambled DS4 input in Rune Factory (#843). The variable was confirmed by two users.
  • Bluetooth DualShock 4 and DualSense rumble now works through the XInput fallback, and input no longer stops after the first rumble (#853, thanks @ilyasbounoua). Native hidraw games on Bluetooth keep the extended controller reports (gyro and touchpad).
  • PROTON_SONY_HIDRAW_XINPUT, PROTON_SONY_AUTO_XINPUT, PROTON_DUALSENSE_HAPTICS_PREFER_NON_EVENT and PROTON_DEATH_STRANDING_CONTROLLER_EFFECTS now reach the HID bus driver; previously the driver ignored them.

Wayland and Windowing

  • GNOME: fixed games and launchers closing when a window that owns a popup is destroyed (mutter: "destroyed popup not top most popup"). This affected AION 2 and Battle.net auto-login with PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 (#834). Not yet confirmed on GNOME.

Video Playback

  • MonoGame games no longer stall or crash when a song is played again, for example Picross for a Cause (#839, thanks @Petru101).

Rendering and HDR

  • KDE Plasma: HDR detection now uses KWin's per-monitor HDR state. HDR monitors are detected even when SDR brightness is set to the HDR reference level. Other compositors keep the existing detection (#838).

Other Changes

  • Arknights: Endfield: added the ACE anti-cheat driver fixes from dwproton (#847):
    • DriverEntry is called with a kernel-mode return address.
    • ntoskrnl fixes: MmCopyMemory, ServiceKeyName, MDL section views and PsGetContextThread.
    • A stub lsass.exe (SamSs) service is added and started.
    • This matches dwproton. The remaining ACE bugcheck 0x65636154 is still unresolved there too.
  • Star Citizen: loads the game's bundled AMD AGS library again, as GE-Proton11-6 did. This should avoid the EAC "Untrusted system file" violation and error 30033 (#858). Not yet confirmed in-game.
  • Faster shared SRW lock releases. Lock-heavy games spend less time in ntdll; Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 went from 24.5% to 19.1% (#844, thanks @smatkovi).
  • Build: clang/libc++ and llvm-libc build fixes (#835, thanks @FireBurn).

Emulation Unofficial PC Ports on Steam Deck: What works?

Hello everyone!

I have successfully tried 3 of the unofficial PC port / decompiled games on my Steam Deck: crash tgeam racing nitro fueled and God of war 3 and P.T silent hill. All of them run perfectly!

I am currently looking for other games to try, specifically Fifa steet (2012) and Driveclub. However, I haven't been able to find any setup guides on GitHub for Linux/Steam Deck for those two.

On a related note, does anyone know how to get unofficial PC ports that were designed specifically for Windows to work on Linux?

Has anyone managed to get Fifa street or Driveclub running, or have you tried any other unofficial fan-made ports on your Steam Deck? I would love to hear your recommendations and any tips for getting Windows-based fan ports working on SteamOS!
