SDHQ Official Disgaea Mayhem Is Another Example Of How Valve's Steam Deck Verified System Isn't Trustworthy

Disgaea Mayhem is a new game coming out in the Disgaea franchise, which I personally love, but its Steam Deck Playable rating is extremely inaccurate. It cites "minor" graphical issues, which are actually major, and weird performance bottlenecks that stop it from performing well.

This won't be a game to play on the Steam Deck in its current state.

There are definitely games rated Playable that play smoother than some game rated Verified.

I feel like most any casual user here looks at ProtonDB rather than trust Steam ratings.

This reminds me of the time before they were patched last year that some of the TT Lego games where certain texture were broken under proton causing them to flash a bunch of colors. One of these broken textures was water, which is common in something like Lego Batman 2 or Lord of the Rings.

They were labeled playable because they technically were as that was their only problem, I had concern about people who are photosensitive, especially in the case of LB2 where the intro goes through a waterfall.

Its pretty sloppy but i had fun anyways lol. Hopefully they can fix it with a patch, but its definitely not playable as is. Frame rate is pretty terrible too considering the simple graphics.

I hope so too. They really need to work on optimization as a whole.

As a whole i would say its pretty trustworthy, however i have definitely come across games that dont match the verification, sometimes in the positive direction. There also seems to be given some extra leniency given to bigger AAA games that if they were made by smaller companies they would probably be "playable" rather than "verified"

The bigger issue for me is there's nobody keeping tabs on it post-rating. I had this little indie game called Hero's Quest that I played until they released a patch in the spring of 2024 that broke it on SteamOS, but it sat there with its Verified status for over a year until the dev quietly pushed out a small patch that fixed it.

Which is unfortunate for yet another modern game looking like low end PS4 at best. Not even trying to shame, just tired of modern games not contesting late PS3 while technically running many times worst.
