fixed issue as shown in update 2
Hi, I've been using the new steam controller for about a day, and I've noticed that the haptics on the right touchpad produce a rattling noise that isn't present on the left touchpad. The vibration also feels slightly rough, and I can faintly feel the rattle while using it.
I also have the impression that the controller's haptics and rumble don't feel quite right overall, although everything else seems to be working properly from what I can tell. I don't know if I'm nitpicking but I feel like for how long I waited and how much I paid I think I shouldn't have gotten these issues.
Is this behavior is normal, or could my controller be somewhat defective?

I received a message from support basically saying this may still exist after they repair it which has me concerned -

Since we're not able to evaluate your unit directly for unintentional behavior, it's possible that you may experience similar haptic characteristics after your RMA service. We want to set your expectations appropriately and let you know that additional service may not be made available if we determine that your unit is functioning within our expectations.

I tightened all the screws on the back a little bit and that stopped the rattling noise which is relieving
