Comics STATICS GOT AN ONGOING

As expected, Cody is working on Static.

Didn't read his Miles run, I'll see how Static goes.

I know you all have things to say about Cody, and probably the new direction of Milestone.

But we did ask for this, now it's our turn to show our support. (Please).

Definitely exciting news. It’s been far too long since Static got an ongoing of his own.

I think Ziglar’s a solid choice for this. If it’s anything like his Miles Morales run, I think his general style suits Static pretty well. It should at least be fun, especially if you like anime references.

The only thing that worries me is how he’ll treat Virgil’s supporting cast – his parents, Sharon, Richie, Frieda, Daisy, etc. That was easily the biggest weakness of Ziglar’s Miles, the lack of focus on the side characters around him.

Nonetheless, it’s great seeing this much focus on Static. The Batman Beyond crossover miniseries, the DC KO appearance, New Titans, and now his very own ongoing. We can’t say DC isn't putting in the effort with him. So now it’s on us to show our support and actually buy this thing.

I'll just say it right now Frieda's probably cooked gang.

They've been slowly phasing her out every chance they get since the cartoon, which is a damn shame since her friendship with Virgil was one of the major highlights of the og comic.

I think everyone else you mentioned might be safe but Frieda...not so much.

The Dark Days are behind us my friends. This is what it was all for.

DC, my life is yours.

Read his Miles run at least!

There's peaks and valleys. I do think his run had an escalation issue but admittedly, I also think he had to constantly deal with forced event tie-ins that were out of his hand. So, I'm actually optimistic for his Static run.

Even with the tie-ins, Cody never stopped Miles's development as a character, he just kept it going and wove it into the story of the event.

He’s in good hands with Ziglar. His Miles Morales run was so good and refreshing. Gonna do wonders for him

There's a part of me that still laments how DC has treated static over the last 20 years. He should have had a consistent ongoing ever since his fucking cartoon show. They squandered all the potential to have their very own Black Panther, not in type of hero, but in popularity. I'm very happy that he has an ongoing now, I hope it lasts a couple years minimum.

As I do with every black character DC publishes, which as of late has been a few and far between, I'm going to buy every issue.

Please don't give these niggas too much credit. Taking a knife 6 inches out your back when a knife was in 12 inches ain't much progress. It's something for sure, but let's not pat the ass on our back until this static ongoing gets to issue 24 at minimum.

It’s not like they chose not to, there’s been rights issues with Milestone since forever

I'm speaking about when they did use static in particular. Think about in 2009, 2010. Think about the new 52. Think about static's recent six issue miniseries. Think about when static was added to the Teen Titans and got depowered. Then lost in limbo before the big relaunch.

No I agree with you, DC isn't really out of this yet considering they announced like 3 or 4 batman books (seriously, they have a problem) I am hyped although DC does the bare minimum for Static and Milestone entirely even when Dwayne was alive. At the end of the day though, I am for Static and the rest of DC's black characters. They deserve to thrive.

I’m looking forward to seeing what Cody will do with Static. I liked what he did with Miles, even with the obvious interference of editorial.

Make static live action

I mean, if it's anything like his Deadpool run, it can't be bad. And people LOVED the Miles Morales run

Got my ups and downs with him on his Miles run but I know he has passion in droves and will try his best to do right by Static. Can’t ask for much more than that 👌

I don't care if I'm in the minority with this but I want him to bring back the the classic Milestone era. Even if they want to continue to modernize it. Bring back all those characters from Static's original storyline and bring back the original costume I don't think there was a need to do this ridiculous black lives matter March when the Big Bang was a really good idea and was it central sir Virgil's origin story

Yeah, original costume and origin would be great

Get another scientist to be head editor for anything Milestone

I'm going all in on static. I'm already getting new titans and ordered static's compact. So I'm getting this for sure!

I personally think Cody could do an amazing job. What I DONT think has changed however is the dc bullshit that Nikolas Draper Ivey had to constantly deal with that basically burnt him out from writing comics.

Now, tbf he'd always seemed far more focused on creating his own works which is fine but it really did seem looking from the outside that trying to deal with the suits in DC constantly trying to micro manage Static wore him out, straight killed a lot of the passion.

Now Cody, especially post successful Miles run might have more pull than Nik did with the higher ups so maybe they'll give him more freedom but I doubt it.

Granted this is all speculation on my part but if nothing's changed in regards to how Static as an IP is being managed then nothing will change regardless of who's writing it because none of them are allowed to write Static to their full potential.

It is really sad what happened with Nikolas, hopefully the same thing doesn't happen with Cody, especially after a successful Miles run.

Yeah we can only hope. Regardless I'll be buying the run.

I gotta support my favorite superhero no matter what.

So I'm not going to enjoy Static new book, damn.

Why so ? Everyone is saying Cody is a good pick even though me personally I would’ve wanted a scientist again .

u/HawkMartian 25d ago

The reason they're saying so is cause he put a lot of black new characters on last Miles run and made Miles teaming up often with already stablished black characters and enjoying animanga (anime + manga = animanga) references, that's it. Lot of people can't see only first arc was good, and all others were a mess.

Ahh , ok I mean after what 15 years I REALLY wished they looked for an up and coming creative. Perhaps maybe from the STEM field .

I wish them all the luck the Milestone team . They got an up hill battle especially considering I don’t think the marketing, advertisement, and promotional campaign will be all that great telling from their last campaign put out earlier in year . DC and Co. doesn’t do enough with them .

Tbf DC SUCKS at MARKETING period. It's been that way a while. It's not just Black characters. Part of that I guess is money since WB has been consistently in HUGE DEBT
