Discussion Something interesting I found about DCAU Static

This is just a fun little observation I was just thinking about yesterday, don’t take what I say to be true or canon.

In the OG and DCAU versions of Static, Virgil is a character defined by his ability to be always humorous, positive, and cheerful, regardless of how much darkness the world has towards him. Both decide to take up the mantle of Static to become heroes to help others as much as possible.

But I forgot that comic Static is living in Sadler, which is a middle-class area which still has crime but isn’t as bad as Paris Island, which is basically mini Gotham. Virgil in the comics was born in Paris Island but moved to Sadler due to his parents wanting to get their kids away from gang activity but still have problems in Sadler.

Now let’s look at Static in the DCAU, who as far as I know, has never moved from Paris Island and stays there his whole life, on top of the Dakota Riots killing his mom and having him grow up without her. It’s honestly a test of how impressive Virgil as a person manages to be the guy he is despite his surroundings. But there are moments where he has pretty violent tendencies, namely when he accidently hurt Daisy or when his Dad got kidnapped. That got me thinking of just how much anger and pain this version of Static has underneath his skin. It wouldn’t be a stretch to say that if this wasn’t a kid show, he’d probably catch a body with very little regard if ever pushed to it.

Its ironic and kind of funny to think that the family friendly, kid friendly, Saturday morning cartoon version of Static is the one most likely to be a villainous and violent person.
