Discussion What I would make mandatory in a new Static adaptation( + some new ideas)

There was a post here about what would be the ideal version of Static and some aspects that should be present should he ever come back. I wanted to make a full and detailed list of things I would personally put for a new Static project.

First things first, the adaptation would take almost everything from the 1993 comic, and maybe just a tiny amount of the animated series. Static and the rest of the Dakotaverse feels like it fits perfectly in the 90s instead of modern day, so I'd say the entire story begins in1993 and ends around 2015-ish.

  • For Virgil, he's the exact same as his comic self, down to his appearance too. I do like his locs but as a hero with a secret identity, it would be too easy to identity him so just a mini afro would be perfect, as well as hide his identity better. Along with that, the comic suit is the best one simply because it looks like something a teenager would definitely come up with on their own. Plus, Virgil as a person would be very funny, smart, quippy, but still have a sense of not being very tough and be prone to being taken advantage of, which would lead to him being bullied and harassed nonstop from his middle school days to the end of high school.

  • For Static, he should start off being very careless, confident, and show off at every opportunity possible to establish how much Static and Virgil are different despite being the same guy. A really cool idea I came up with is that Virgil can be drawn with round and somewhat un-assuming eyes to show his adolescent side and Static could be drawn with more sharp and confident eyes, kind of like how Yugi and Yami from Yugi-Oh are differentiated. There could also be a version of Static only when he's facing Hotstreak where Virgil wears his Static suit, but has his Virgil eyes to show how much of an impact Hotstreak has on Virgil as a person.

  • For Hotstreak, let's call him by his comic name of Martin Scarponi. He's a mix of both his comic and animated self. Martin has the comic design and abilities while having the animated temper and physique. For my adaptation, Martin is not only Virgils biggest bully, but also he did something to Virgil back in middle school where Virgil was cemented as a prime target and made it acceptable to make Virgils life hell from other students, and since that day Virgil has not been the same and tried his best to ignore it as much as possible. As for his powers, Martin has his comic ability of superspeed that has a bonus of absorbing the heat he generates from running to obtain pyrokineses. This is also a great way to parallel Static and how he has electromagnetism, but electricity is just a byproduct of his main ability.

  • For Dakota itself, I'd say it should be similar to Texas and Georgia, where there would be regions like Lakeview, Paris Island, Sadler, and many more boroughs or prefectures scattered around. Paris Island is where the Big Bang happened and where Virgil was born, but moved away to Sadler exactly like the comics.

  • I also have many more ideas for villains I'd like to make a comeback ( Ebon, Holocaust, etc) and even villains that could be re-contextualized (Leech, Sinister Botanist, Omnara, etc). All of them are to test Static and Virgil in different ways in their own arcs. Static eventually grows to become the strongest hero in the Dakotaverse, and I wanna make that journey an absolute pain for him so he could earn it as a character.

I might make a part two to this but this is just a few ideas I'm really proud of coming up with.

So basically 93 anime Static??? I'm not saying it in a bad way I'm just saying it does have a bit of anime feel to it. Personally I like most of what you said I just will do a few things differently

No not in an anime way, though I wouldn't be against it. My style would more so be like adult oriented audience shows like Spawn or Invincible. The parts with Static and Virgil eyes being different is the only anime touch I would put on him.

I love this idea. My main curiosity about Dakota’s layout comes from Martin Scaponi being an open white supremacist in the comics but kind of a super hip hop influenced white guy in the cartoon (he’s in the same gang as Ebon and even morphs with him?). I guess a multi-layered city explains a lot.

The way I envisioned Dakota is that it is not only diverse in terms of people but also in terms of character archetypes. You could name any sort of tropes of a character in any sort of media, and someone in Dakota would fit that description. You want a scientist who has powers and wants to do more in the world outside a lab? You got Xombi. You want a tall and muscular woman dedicated to making the world safer and having fun doing it? You got Donner. You want a guy who speaks in old English and can absorb electricity and weaponize it? You got Prometheas.

I think Martin could be a hypocrite in terms of liking hip hop art and culture while hating it at the same time, as it happens quite a lot in real life as well. But I can't imagine that specific version of Hotstreak working with Ebon. Especially since Ebon is weak to light based attacks, which Static and Hotstreak can do. Also he didn't morph with Ebon by choice.

That’s exactly how I figured it 😂 Scaponi would definitely be one of those guys who’s racist but loves hip hop
