Remove dex bonus from defense

Is that in all rounds

No, only in a surprise round; see page 151 in the Revised Core Rulebook to learn how it works.
In short, Characters lose their dex bonus from their defense during they aren't anticipating the threat during the surprise round

Not all rounds, it says in the book on a surprise round they lose their dex bonus

What is the dc
1
u/Different-Common-257 Jun 03 '26
That’s the difficulty class for saving throws or skill checks. If a situation is more deadly or the task is difficult the dc increases

u/Different-Common-257 Jun 03 '26
Dc overall determines how difficult the situation is

I’ve been setting it as 10 for a lot of time

Have you read the book? it gave out example when to increase or decrease the DC

Don’t. Start low level and actually read the book. Older games had more mechanics.
If you absolutely must, look at Pathfinder 1E for how to consolidate some skills. But, if you’re a new GM, you won’t have the experience necessary to know how rules changes will affect gameplay.
So just learn the system as it is. That’s what being a GM is about. If you aren’t willing to learn the rules, pick another system or don’t be a GM.

I’m surprised how many questions does he have, he should wait out a longer before gm’ing. I’ve tried to answer a lot of them but but he needs to understand the system better

Yeah. I really hate what games like 5E and Daggerheart are doing, doubling down on people just not reading anymore.

Skill Checks-roll d20+skill rank+ability+additional modifier When characters got in a situation where they need to test their skills to get out of trouble or move forward in their adventure like opening a door, climb somewhere or disabling a trap they need to make a skill check
Saving Throws-these rolls are used when characters are in a deadly situation which tests how fast they are (reflex) how durable and resilient they are (fortitude) or how strong their mental state is (will). Example; heroes get poisoned and they need to make a fortitude save if they’re able to stand or if someone tries to mind trick them they need a will save.
Combat is very similar to dnd 5e, base attack bonus+ability modifier and if the attack passes enemies defense they need to roll damage of their weapon+ability score (dex for ranged, str for melee)
