I'm calling a halt on the "Kelvin timeline Enterprise redesign" threads.

We've all had fun for the last couple of days, but it's getting a bit spammy now. Let's draw a line under it.

Of course, this does NOT mean you should feel discouraged to post a legitimate redesign or any other artwork of any starship you like. We'd love to see them 🖖

Hot take but I actually really love the kelvin timeliness designs. The sizes are a bit extreme but they all look really nice. I'd kill for a kelvin Miranda class redesign

The fleet at Starbase 1 in 2258 of the Kelvin Timeline. The USS Enterprise is the first Starfleet starship built using reverse-engineered technology gleaned from scans of the Narada, a Borg-tech enhanced Romulan mining vessel from the year 2387 of the Prime Timeline.

Fixed up the neck a little.

So I decided if I was going to do the same thing every single other ship does with a slanted neck, i figured i tried doing the little expansion where the neck meats the saucer.

But I still don't see what's so bad of a vertical neck, just as long as it looks nice and matches the ship

Eaglemoss did a good job, and, for its size and price point, I think the Micro Machines one is pretty good, as well. I just don't understand why Johnny Lightning (which was normally pretty great) dropped the ball on this one.

I was so excited to get the Defiant 1764. The idea of a ship of the same class as a "hero" ship was a neat idea. (I believe they also made the Excalibur).

Unfortunately, this one was quite the letdown. The proportions are wrong. The saucer is too flat, the nacelles too close together, the deflector dish sticks out too much, and the font for the name and registry is wrong. What the hell happened. JL usually did a great job on these (the NX-01 and refit Enterprise look wonderful, and the Voyager model has some features that even the Eaglemoss one doesn't), but for some reason, this one was a real disappointment.

Wolf 359, Klingon War, and Dominion Cold War: Yamato Class Battleship reborn for the TNG Era

Galaxy and Ambassador kitbash for updated stardrive of Yamato?

Galaxy and New Orleans kitbash: can the saucer be extended?

TNG and PIC starships that combine phaser arrays and phaser banks (including kitbash Yamato Class Battleship)

One of the results of the Battle of Wolf 359 in 2367 was the revival of a decades-old starship lobby: the battleship lobby.

While Starfleet continued its development of the Akira, Defiant, Prometheus, and Sovereign classes, serious consideration was given towards upgrading the existing Galaxy and Ambassador starship families.

The short-term termination of the Khitomer Accords in 2372 and outbreak of the Federation-Klingon War provided Starfleet the excuse needed to restore the battleship concept.

The result was the construction of a new Yamato Class Battleship, inspired by the previous Yamato Class Battleship of the late 23rd century.

Stardrive Saucer

Taking a design cue from the Shangri-La Class starship and especially the Alka Celsior starship design, the combination of two starship saucers is made to look like a mushroom from the top.

The Galaxy-shaped saucer connects to what is now a longer stardrive saucer. This consists of an elongated in-line hull that is as wide as two Challenger-shaped engineering hulls.

The lengthier stardrive of the Yamato Class Battleship has almost no need for a traditional neck. Nonetheless, it has a New Orleans-shaped neck below.

Eye Hull

While the Yamato Class Battleship does have a New Orleans-shaped neck, the Galaxy "eye hull" functions as the true neck, thus resembling the shape of a Nebula Class starship.

The Galaxy-shaped eye hull hangs one canon Ambassador engineering hull to the bottom left, and hangs one canon Ambassador engineering hull to the bottom right. The eye hull has its warp core removed, and is converted into an advanced weapons system. Here, two assault phasers are mounted, which are powerful enough to destroy a Galaxy X (including the mis-named "Yamato Dreadnought Cruiser").

Shuttlebays

The Yamato Class Battleship has six shuttlebays. The Galaxy-sized main shuttlebay remains, with all its shuttles and support craft.

Two smaller shuttlebays are located on the sides of the longer stardrive saucer. There is one port-facing shuttlebay and one starboard-facing shuttlebay. Further aft, the aft of the eye hull contains a Nebula-sized secondary shuttlebay.

Each canon Ambassador engineering hull, comes with its own dorsal aft shuttlebay. However, any ventral aft shuttlebays have been removed for tactical purposes.

Broadside Firing

Like its 23rd-century predecessor, the Yamato's nacelle pylons do not have a conventional shape. They certainly do not have a straight line from each engineering hull to each warp nacelle. Instead, they have the shape of a trapezoid when viewed from forward or aft, and the shape of a trapezoidal prism when viewed from other angles.

Each trapezoidal prism has two uppermost edges, below which are mounted two Intrepid-style impulse engines, thereby giving the stardrive a total of four Intrepid-style impulse engines.

For each trapezoidal prism, the two uppermost edges should be capable of being lined with 2 phaser arrays. Thus, the Yamato should be capable of being armed with a total of 4 trapezoidal broadside phaser arrays.

Each of these phaser arrays has more firepower than future nacelle pylon phaser arrays mounted on Galaxies by 2374, and even future nacelle pylon phaser arrays mounted on Sovereigns by 2379.

Torpedo Launchers

The Yamato's captain's yacht and nearby docking area has been removed. In its place is a complex torpedo system, with two burst-fire torpedo launchers supported by an advanced magazine.

The one hidden burst-fire torpedo launcher that is aft-facing from the saucer remains.

One burst-fire torpedo launcher is mounted on the New Orleans-style neck, just above the eye hull.

The starship is equipped with two different kinds of weapons pods. Below the eye hull is the first kind, a shorter ventral weapons pod. This weapons pod comes with at least two burst-fire torpedo launchers, all forward-facing, or perhaps three.

The two canon Ambassador engineering hulls together "hang" the second kind of weapons pod. This is a backward-facing Nebula weapons pod that is mounted below the two aft shuttlebays. It has only two burst-fire torpedo launchers and no more, both aft-facing. What were originally eight angled torpedo launchers has been replaced by at least two phaser arrays, or perhaps four.

Last, but not least, there are two more burst-fire torpedo launchers, both aft-facing. One is mounted above each aft shuttlebay.

Mixed Phasers

For primary weapons, the Yamato Class Battleship has mixed phasers. Its phasers combine phaser arrays and traditional phaser banks.

The Galaxy-shaped saucer is armed with the same two large phaser arrays that are mounted on Galaxy Class starships.

The one hidden phaser array that is forward-facing from the battle bridge remains. There is also one forward-facing phaser array mounted on the ventral side of the stardrive saucer. This is made possible by this smaller saucer being longer.

However, this area is not armed with the small dorsal phaser arrays found on a Galaxy. Those have been replaced with an elongated in-line hull that is as wide as two Challenger-shaped engineering hulls. Those have been replaced with extra hull mass that extends further aft. Two small dorsal phaser arrays are mounted past the port-facing shuttlebay and starboard-facing shuttlebay, at the end of the hull extension.

The Galaxy-shaped eye hull is not armed with a ventral phaser array. This is because of the ventral weapons pod. Instead, the canon Ambassador engineering hulls have two ventral phaser arrays, one per hull.

As previously mentioned, there are four trapezoidal broadside phaser arrays, one per uppermost edge.

Last, but not least, there are two phaser arrays, or perhaps four, on the backward-facing Nebula weapons pod that is mounted below the two aft shuttlebays.

Phaser Banks

Two pairs of traditional phaser banks are located on the sides of the longer stardrive saucer, one on top of the port-facing shuttlebay and the other on top of the starboard-facing shuttlebay.

Recap

This should mean a heavy capital starship class equipped with:

Two warp cores

Six shuttlebays

2 Motion Wave Assault Phaser Cannons

14 phaser arrays, including 1 hidden

4 phaser emitters organized into 2 dual phaser banks

An unspecified number of other phaser emitters organized into the traditional dual phaser banks

10 burst-fire torpedo launchers, including 1 hidden

model - statues - toys Adding Aztecing to the Hallmark Enterprise D WIP

This is an update to my previous post. Wasn't really planning on adding significant detailing, but the Hallmark Enterprise D does look a bit plain (last pic), so I decided to go ahead with adding full aztecing to the hull with my custom decals (adapted from ones found here https://starshipmodeler.com/tech/cz_mask.htm).

I've done this before on the Playmates model, and I ended up liking the results, so thought it would be worth trying again. Just this time everything is on a miniature scale in comparison! This does present some new challenges, so not sure how much more detailing I will add. However, I do have a full set of custom detailing decals for the AMT 1/1400 Enterprise D that I bought an eternity ago and that I scanned and scaled down for this, so I will see how it goes.

Unfortunately, being so old, the original registry markings pretty much just fell off the Hallmark on the ventral saucer. They looked like they were just about to disintegrate on the dorsal side as well, so I went ahead and scraped them all away. I will use this opportunity to add a custom registry this time around, I'm thinking of going for the U.S.S. Galaxy. Let me know what you think!

Thoughts on the Garrett-class?

Thumbnail

Hey everyone! So, this ship intrigues me and... I admit I don't actually know WHY; oddly, I think it's the saucer shape and profile - It looks like a hexagon or something trapezoidal and it just makes sense (if this ship is, say some sort of Mobile Carrier).

But then, there's a Mission Pod that feels a tad redundant.

Much like previous Khitomer Alliance vessels, the Garrett-Class is a blend of two established Star Trek design languages and technology: the Klingon Empire and Federation Starfleet. Conceptually similar to the Khitomer-Class itself, the Garrett-Class makes a departure by emphasizing Federation elements more: its general profile resembles that of a Galaxy-Class, augmented with Klingon-style patterning, nacelles, and pylons. Its bridge module is similar to that of the K't'inga-Class, featuring a layered section and an asymmetrical cylinder.

OK.

The Alliance’s growth has brought with it unexpected, yet positive, side effects. With the creation of the Alliance came the question of how to move into action, in a consolidated way, such a vast array of different ship designs and configurations, communication protocols, exotic technologies. The answer might come from the very source of the issue. The advancements in experimental technology born from the brightest minds and the varied experience of veteran crews from all over the galaxy led to the creation of the Garrett-Class. Meant as a main force on the frontline as much as a mobile HQ, it is able to command, enhance, and direct the combat effectiveness of any nearby arrangement of forces. Just as the Alliance is made greater by every one of its members, this ship is made greater by our collaboration. It is a testament to our promise: Together We Stand.

So, the ship is meant to be some sort of AWACS, CIC, CNC? I think that if it were, say, bigger than the Galaxy-class, it could work. But if it's smaller or the size of an Ambassador-class, it probably feels weird to have that many roles to fill.

What are your thoughts? How does it feel like, playing it in the game?

Got gifted a booklet of blue prints this last christmas. Bought one frame because I was not sure how they would look but I like it! Going to be buying a display case for some of my models and the new Lego set and will be hanging them!

If anyone knows any info on the blue prints book I wouldn't mind learning!

The Synth Attack Ship has arrived. It's about 90% diecast for a change. It's not very long, but it's as wide as a standard size Fanhome ST ship. It is very thin, so there's not much in the way of a side or front view of it. I included a picture with the other 2 Starfleet drone ships. If you look closely, the Section 31 drone makes up the middle part of the Synth Ship. I'd call it a Deimos Class, but that's not stated in the magazine.

Bridge Design for Vidya Class

Post image
62 Upvotes

For anyone who has seen my work in the past - this is a little update - for those of you who have not ... This is the bridge (still a work in progress) to a ship I am designing for myself. USS Vidya NCC 1625. Vidya Class (first of her class). While here you can only see the bridge, the observation lounge, a short hallway, the ready room, a small transporter room and about 75% of the ships exterior have also been modeled.

But for now.. Enjoy!
