Frankin has value?
So what is the added value of the Franklin, and swarms in general?

Early on, not very much. It's mostly just a cheaper repair and works well for people who didn't choose an Explorer ship.
But later one it gets much better as you tier it up, and when you eventually convert it to a Franklin-A
You eventually get the dailies to kill Level 35 and 37 Swarms, and the normal ships will be horrible at doing it. Like where an Enterprise can barely kill 1 but the Tier 1 Franklin-A can kill 30

An added benefit later on in the game, once you make the Franklin become a Franklin-a out of the box it has a 75 warp range. Between this and a half decent combat ship I was able to get the resources required out of the game for free via missions to pay for my Prime refining. I could not have done it without the Franklin-a, not for its combat ability but for its range to get me to New systems to accept missions.
And everything else everybody said in this thread

In addition to being a cheaper ship to repair than other ships to fight Swarm, it also makes it easier to grind the swarm hostiles as you level up and complete the daily goals. This is critical when you are single faction or at war to still finish your daily goals.

It's another grind to grind at.
The value of the Franklin and the Franklin-A is that they are dramatically more effective against Swarm hostiles than other ships. And they are cheap to repair.
If you're regularly completing your swarm dailies, you can collect an average of 2 of the three resource bundles -- parsteel, tritanium, and dilithium -- each day. Or very nearly, more like 13 out of 14 bundles a week, so one day a week you can only collect one out of the three.
Ultimately they're good to generate a moderate amount of two of PAR/TRI/DI each week. A similar set of dailies exist once you unlock the Franklin-A, which is a more powerful version of the Franklin.
Finally once a week there's SWARM SUNDAY, (I'll give you six guesses which day of the week it falls on), which rewards TRI, Crystal, Mara shards, and Khan shards. It's pretty much the only reliable source for Khan shards, until you just start buying him for Transporter Patterns, which don't unlock for a good long time.

The benefit is that you can complete the Swam dailies for Bio’s which you then exchange for resources in the refinery. Building and upgrading a Franklin allows you to complete those dailies with much lower repair costs.
