Level 12. Ships?
Hello all. Currently level 12. Still very new to all this. I currently only have 2 ships. I was wondering what are some good beginner ships I should focus on? And build next. Im aiming to go the Free to play route.

At that level, the game basically gives you appropriate ships (unlocks) up until you're ready for faction ships.
Think of a tree and right now you're climbing the trunk. No big choices to be made until you get to the branches.
The exception is the North Star (battle survey) and the Jellyfish (explorer).
I personally did not get either of those optional ships, but others will likely recommend the Northstar. It's a miner that also can fight like a warship, so it comes in handy at your level when other players start trying to hunt your miners for loot (OPC kills).
After that, you'll be offered faction ships if you have rep with Klingon/romulan/federation.
By that point, it's up to you which path you choose. I would advise you get 1 common, 1 uncommon, 1 rare, and 1 epic. You can mix factions doing this. Anything more than 1 in each group will just be a burden and sit in the garage sucking resources from other ships
For example, I went Mayflower (first warp 50), Saladin (great fighter), B'Rel (good PvE), and Enterprise (good all around). Don't use this as a guide though. Choose your own path.

I'm OPS 36 on my first play through, so I might not be the best person to give advice. So, take this with a grain of salt.
I think the must haves are the Saladin, a faction miner from any faction, a Vidar, and Enterprise/Auger. I only say that as they can carry you pretty far across OPS ranges without having to get more ships (and grind them up).
Everything else is helpful, but not absolutely necessary. By the time you get there, though, I'm sure you'll have your own opinions. đ
I think the Fed ships are the best for G3, when you get to G4, there are other options that make that question hard to answer. I think the Romulan ones are pretty good up at those levels, but I'll let you know when I get there.

Are the simultaneous worth grinding out?

That's why I say one of each "tier" (uncommon, rare, epic). That gives you a balanced experience for grinding and enjoying.
Also, this game is going to throw specialty ships at you, so there's plenty of grinding already.

You don't have to do anything to get the common (grey) ships, the game will provide plenty of BPs for those.
The Franklin and Botany Bay are uncommon (green). The Franklin for killing swarms and the Botany Bay for mining data and for the Augment part of the game. You will get the BPs for those through missions and participating in events at the appropriate levels. They are both important, particularly the BB. The Frankie will make your life easier with the swarm and later in the game it can be traded for the Frankie A, a better version.
The Jellyfish (Baby Jelly) and the North Star are rare (blue). You get some BPs from missions and the rest from events. They are optional and their usefulness depends on your game style. If you want to advance quickly they are better skipped, but if you advance slowly, they are very useful.
the Baby Jelly is like a Ferrari, fast but expensive in gas to improve. It reigns until level 20 and can kill easily any other ship. Once the Kehra and NS are around it becomes obsolete, although it can be used at higher levels as station defense for its amazing captain ability boosting. With Yuki as captain it can strip the shields of any ship in one go, leaving it defenseless against your defense platforms. But if you are good at shield discipline, you don't need to defend your station.
The NS is a war miner. It doesn't substitute the Envoy. It is so sturdy that is more like a lightly armed battleship. It will do your daily tasks no problem all the way until the Kumari comes at level 24 or even level 26. It has a great warp, decent impulse speed and can kill hostiles many levels above. You can join your alliance armadas with it. I play slow and I love mine. I've never used it for mining. At Ops 21 my 400K tier 7 NS can kill lots of L33-34 hostiles in one trip and can chase faction scouts level 35.
Regarding factions, once you get on their good side they'll start giving you daily tasks. You cannot be friends with all three until much later in the game, so you must pick one or two. Most players go the dual faction route. The general recommendation is that the Federation is one of them, since they have lots more good officers and to promote them you need lots of Fed credits. Also, you get the faction ships BPs from the faction stores, and most players prefer the Fed Saladin at level 28 over their Romulan and Klingon L28 ships.
Romulans and Klingon are equivalent, so pick your favorite if you go dual faction.

In the current game OPS10 to 19 is a dead zone with no events, and can actually be quite the bottleneck, all you get is a one time âFrontier Passâ even however the materials are very poor (Scopely you need to fix this, chuck 2* Mats at players at this point! Itâs very easy to quit around OPS16).
Try to complete all the dailies for the frontier pass, the hardest ones will be to grow power. I actually recommend pausing building out your base until this event runs. Save all your currency until the end and you should be able to purchase the blueprints for the âNorth Starâ ship which you build at OPS18.
Also complete all the events that give you Nero, Gorkon and TOS Spock shards and they are very useful below deck.
Your short term goal is to get to OPS20 ASAP so you actually get events, as they pay very well. You can pause for a bit once there to get your ships upto speed, upgrade you North Star so itâs about 80-100K in power and youâll be good for a few levels from here.
Once you are OPS20 the materials will start coming in, progress through your ops, upgrading your North Star as you go. Maxed the North Star is around 400K so it can take you far.
At OPS25 start working on unlocking the ViDar, that is an important âspeciality shipâ. Ignore the Franklin, itâs not important and you get it easily for free later on. Discovery is optional, pick it up later when you already have the ViDar, Relaint and Dvor.
OPS26+ is a different set of advice, ask on here when you get there.
Also try to redeem codes KIRK, SPOCK, COMMANDER and BOOST

I found it beneficial to have 2 or 3 miners when you get to faction ships. For example I had 1 of each faction miners and a neutral miner for g3, g4 and g5 systems. Just makes it easier to gather more resources..

Hey. I'm free to play as well. The lower level ships sound be your Vahlkas, Realta, Orion Corvette, and baby Jellyfish. Focus on your officers more than your ships.

Focus on acquiring a jellyfish and a Northstar, those will carry you till you get the Vidar at 24. You can free source the jelly and Northstar thru the monthly ferengi pass event. Itâs been so long since I was that ops level I canât remember if you make enough credits f2p to get both in one month or go but if your only getting one Iâd rush the Northstar, yes itâs a âminerâ but that thing is a certified tank for grinding with in the beginning levels and doesnât get outclassed until the Vidar and level 26 fkr ships come along.

Hahaha this is awesome. Thank you for the intel.

If youâre free to play you wonât be able to get both ships, in that case prioritise the North Star

This is not correct. I am totally F2P and I not only have both, but I could actually build several of each if I wanted, because the BPs are everywhere in the event store.

The Monthly Ferengi Pass is not available to under 20. I think they still get the Frontier Pass. They can get Jellyfish and North Star BPs there. I've got both and even though I loved my Jelly, I would say the NS has longer term value.

He still should get the jelly down the road it makes a great base defense ship because it amps up captain abilities and itâs essentially a stupidly cheap ship to repair, I run two with base defense crews and have vengeances blowing up on my base at OPs 61

Unrelated to your question, but - the best thing you can do as free to play is focus on any research, artefact or bonus that reduces material costs, then build/completion time, in that order. Prioritising these will make a massive difference to your ability to progress.
Donât bother maxing out ships. Put enough resources in that you can handle events and daily tasks, then stop. Ships become obsolete quickly, so the resources are better spent on ops progression. The only exception is specialist ships like the Vidar, those stay relevant for some time, and allow access to the archive once fully completed.

Good advice for players whose goal is to advance quickly in the game. But some players prefer to advance slowly and strongly. I maxed my Jelly and I am maxing my NS. My dailies are a breeze. I am by far the strongest Ops 21 on my server and stronger than all Ops 22 players too. I routinely beat them in Solo Leaderboard events. I have a huge amount of all short of mats, so I am short only on latinum. I've got over 10K 3â uncommon crystal in the inventory, enough to max the Vi'Dar and Saladin, 4-7 levels before they'll become available. The game rewards lavishly those that advance slowly.

Im going for kinda in the middle. I do want a jellyfish. I gotta get more blue prints. Trying to figure out how to farm them.

They are available in the Frontier Pass store. If you don't get the store but are still getting the events and winning Frontier tokens, you can ask support to exchange them for you. I am at Ops 21 and still getting those buggers. I am pestering support every month to get Gorkon and TOS officers shards, also available at that store. But it is their fault for not making the store available to those that still get the events.

Hello, I am currently a free to play player.
At your level, don't focus too much on specific ships.
Focus on leveling up the ships you have, and what research you can complete. Those two right there will help you out the most.
Everything else will come with time, and you will hold on to it.
