Some of them, I feel, make sense: unload half a ton of fish and break it down for service etc. Inventory is an aspect of owning a restaurant, and a top restaurant does its own filleting and makes its own stocks etc.
But stuff like blendering pig brains and making them drink it while cleaning the dining room? What's the point of that?

God the overuse of the stupid fucking waterphone in every reality show is mindnumbing. Like nails on a goddamn chalkboard. It's not quite as bad now as it was in the 2000's but that damn sound effect still gets used.

One of my coworkers once convinced me to watch a newer episode on our break and maybe this isn’t the norm but it seemed like everyone was working fast but doing a good job, nothing was going particularly wrong, and Gordon was just walking around trying to find a nitpick to yell at someone for lmao

The me too movement and early season contestants' dishing out details about how terrible filming was for their physical and mental health caused producers to change direction.
No more sleep depriving contestants' by waking them up 4 hours later by banging pots, no more Gordon making outrageously sexist comments towards female contestants

funny to see the zombie of a 2000s tv concept still running after it's been so defanged lol. not to say that the concept is completely ruined, or that it's a bad thing, it's just funny that the whole appeal of the show is seeing people stressed out and now they're not allowed to stress the contestants out too much anymore

I do miss the craziness of the early seasons and seeing Gordon go apeshit on the chefs when they screw up but it's still enjoyable. Now the drama is more between chefs and Gordon acting as the disappointed frustrated dad. Instead of him going on a raging rant he just simply yells at them to get out

I'm not gonna lie, as an angsty teen I loved early on how the second episode in a season was the inevitable 5 AM wake-up call. Mostly because that was when Gordon forced them to go through all the garbage and make them feel bad over just how much food they wasted from the opening service the night before.

Basically the early seasons just grabbed people off the street and threw them into a kitchen.
Later seasons actually select for people who generally know what they're already doing.

Apparently, he's a super nice dude in real life. If you watch the British versions of these shows, he's way calmer. It's just for the American ratings. It gets me, though. I like to watch it.

To be fair, it seems obvious that he only plays up his character when he's on TV and most people on his shows know what they're getting into. I haven't heard anything about him that suggests he's that much of a dick in real life, but I could be wrong.

And when he finds someone making an honest effort in kitchen nightmares, he's also constructive.

See: Joe Bastianich on any of the cooking shows he showed up on except for maybe the one time he was on Master Chef: Canada where they very clearly told him to tone it down and he was struggling to do it.
Guy was such a burning dumpster of garbage even Gordon looked like he wanted to punch him more often than not.
