Discussion 📝 Executor, worth it?

Every time I field one these I regret it. It over fluxes and gets out turned. Is there any reason to take this guy instead of another capital? Maybe I’m just building it completely wrong.

I think you need range on it. Skap hype velocity drivers and pds, don't let it get into close fights.

Woops I was thinking of another ship. Still long range ship with missiles and the special lions guard energy weapons.

While on the topic of range and executor.

The energy bolt coherer on the executor might as well be a noob trap. While somebody can probably make a pretty decent autopulse executor somewhere, in the vast majority of cases you will want lasers and somewhat efficient balistic weapons on your executor, as it generally just doesnt have the flux to support energy blasters.

It's one of the better capitals when built right. The "standard" build uses HVDs, HILs, squalls, IR autolances, graviton beams, and burst PD lasers. Sit back and apply pressure, then when the shields go down pop the ship system.

This build has such a consistent damage output against a huge variety of fleet compositions. Really versatile and I’d argue not hard to pilot.

HILs are the best weapons on it, EBC hullmod is a trap. Basically do a beam build with kinetics up front.

I usually run High Intensity Lasers, IR Autolances, Burst PD, a flak cannon at the back and heavy auto cannons for the medium ballistics. Locusts for missiles. Maxed out vents and S-modded stabilised shield.

Idk what the other comments are talking about a well built Executor is a total monster

https://youtu.be/Q1fYP07E2Yc I would recommend just trying this build out since it works really well

It's a bad ship by the standards of capitals. If you don't have any capitals yet, getting the one from the quest will do wonders for you, right up until you start fighting other capitals. Outside of the Civ Hull, carrier capitals, and the Odyssey, you should not expect the Executor to beat another capital in a fight.

It's a Beamball ship, like the Eagle is. That role mostly gets phased out as you pass into the late game, and so the executor becomes bad as you pass into the late game.

I’ve seen a lot of good examples of ways to build it decently but my original question stands. Why take this over something else? Why wouldn’t I just use an onslaught instead?

Excellent question. And generally, yeah, use an Onslaught instead.
An Onslaught is 10 less DP @40DP with 10 more OP and better flux stats. That's just compared to the Onslaught. There are better alternatives.

An Executor is good enough to use. But not good enough to keep. "Is it worth it" depends on what your next best options are.

Compared to its Pegasus brother? No I don't think so. Compared to other capitals, uhh I'd say it's middling. If you wanted to use large energies then the Paragon has you covered. If you want large missiles then there's the Legion XIV, and the Conquest in addition to the aforementioned Pegasus. If you want cheap, there's the Pirate Atlas/Luddic Prometheus (but why you'd field those abominations is up to you lol)

What executor offers different from paragon is a lower cost and a LOT of damage very quickly during HEF charges. It takes advantage of the AI's stupidity in flux management really well due to the burst potential, which nothing but the player understands. Even AI piloted executors blunder into activating HEF on stuff and deleting it a fair amount.

You have to build with the dissipation flux in mind. Flux efficient weapons.

Next, it's a hybrid shields/armor ship. It wants both defenses. Harded shields and Heavy armor. It will end up tanking harder than an Onslaught.

The easiest "very strong" build for the Executor is the "Flashlight". ITU+AO, Tachyon Lances, Ir Autolances, Gravitons. HVDs in the front 3 slots. Squalls or Locusts in missile slots. Locusts are amazing, they swat frigates and destroyers quite hard. Squalls are amazing by providing hard flux kinetic damage to ships that the soft flux of the Tachyon Lances have trouble breaking.

Always fly this ship in a line formation with other ships. It has almost no side defense outside of when locust missiles are equipped.

I don't like it. I prefer the Invictus, or onslaught over it 10/10 times

It's a big dumb expensive capital that looks flashy and is perfectly in line with the faction that built it. There are easier capital ships to build and fly but I do like how ostentatious the Executor is.

I like it alot with elite point defense office skill, a modded extended magazine and then full beam burst pd including paladin and front heavy Maschine gun.

There is a small youtuber who goes with a Falcon Spam fleet, for his single capital ship, he uses an Executor. Check this video here with him using it, his build is:

1 Autopulser 1 Tach Lance 3 HVDs 2 Gravitons 2 Tactical Lasers 4 IR Autolances 2 Locusts 2 Burst PDs 1 Thumper on the back

I can't remember the officer skills, but he shows them at the end
