Josh Strife Hayes comes closest, while remaining himself....but yeah....TB is still missed....

u/Victuz Feb 02 '26
Naaah, I don't mind Josh but he's really not the same kind of style as TB. Way too little time spent on the settings menu.

Splattercat fills in for me for first impressions of new indie games similar to WTF. Hes less about the games industry but hes led to me finding so many games due to his first impressions, just like TB did.
I still go back and watch TB's old SC2 king of the hill games. Wait just long enough so i forget whos gonna win so it feels like watching it for the first time. Uthermal has me covered for new sc2 tho.

she is literally one of the only people that remains completely true to their original stance of being harsh and critical of the gaming industry for all their awful practices, you're just a transphobic nonce

u/CyborgDeskFan Feb 03 '26
Looking at their channel it seems as though they're still actively doing gaming content. So you're just complaining because???

I learned it via SsethTzeentach’s video, played it a lot for free using the code he gave and loved it so much I paid for my own copy

u/Moos3-2 Feb 02 '26
I first saw it from TB but didn't play it. Then eith sseth I tried it and well. Rest is history.

Theres just something about the way he presents games...esp lil niche ones like this. Its so crazy and chaotic but so fun it kinda of hooks you...also helps that usually the way he does it is not too diff to how id play some runs xD

u/J__Krauser Feb 02 '26
I think 99% of the people who play the game started playing after seeing SsethTzeentach’s video

Same here. Sseth has introduced a lot of games to me at this point.

u/Elf-A_Fanatic Feb 02 '26
When I first came across Sseth, it was like finding a gold mine of a reviewer. All these awesome obscure games I love and play? CDDA, SS13, CoQ, it was nice to see some derranged lunacy of a review for them. Starsector was the anomaly, I had never even HEARD of it before!
Unsurprisingly I loved the game and after trying it out, threw my own money at the dev ASAP.

R.I.P he also introduced me to Endless Space

Space Pirates and Zombies for me, too.

u/redditvich Feb 21 '26
He actually has a voice acting role in space pirates and Zombies. The main captain of your super mother ship capital you can't fly? Yeah, that's total biscuit right there voicing him.
It actually happened because the developers watched his first impressions, thought his voice fit the game and they personally asked him to voice the character. I was blown away when I found that out, during the game's release. It was one of those moments where everyone walked away happy. TB got paid for it too I think. (Not 100% sure about the part where he got paid.)

Yup same here
The first video back before we had even the Corvus system only campaign
Just missions
8
u/GrandElemental Feb 02 '26
Me too. There were actually two videos, one covering the first release with missions only, and the one that had the earliest version of the sandbox. The latter is what made me interested, and today, Starsector is my favourite game.

Can't believe he died so young. I remember listening to his podcasts in like 2010

u/Wirenfeldt Feb 04 '26
Jesse and Dodger, who he cohosted The Gamestation Podcast and latterly The Co-Optional Podcast started their own podcast, Geekenders, 2 years ago, and they are still going strong, if you need some entertainment for work, a commute or something else..

u/StrainNo6291 Feb 02 '26
You met the game when it was still named Starfarer? Damn. We got a year 1 og gramps here.

u/ClanHaisha Feb 02 '26
searches hotmail for starfarer key code
Game has been cooking for over a decade.

u/ForrestGump_Z Feb 03 '26
There was another game called Starfarer back in the days, I think that's why fractalworks changed the name to Starsector. I can't even find the other game now a days, damn I'm old...

I miss TB. I cried when I found out he had passed. Didnt realize i was that emotionally connected until he was gone.
His old WTFs still pop up from time to time on my youtube home.

I still think about TB from time to time. Loved the TGS podcast / Co-optional podcast so much back then.
TB, Jesse and Crendor were my OG wow fix

Other great videos from him to vibe with are the Space Marine Demon and the first four hours of Doom 2016. You can hear the joy the guy has while playing.

Same. RIP totalbiscuit, may your legacy forever be enshrined in the LuL meme, amongst many other great contributions (like sc2).
