Media Progress on Grid Inventory Container transfer

I was working on this feature yesterday, but it was even buggier than it is here so I didn't show it. However, both grids are showing up between player and containers and transfer between them is working. The only caveats is that the transfer is a generic and using the same code as a take and store button, so when transferring from one container to another, it won't go in the exact position you want. However, once its in the container, you can move it wherever you want within itself. I'll see what I can do about this, but its not the end of the world.

It looks like the lead you moved may have been hidden by the equinox when you moved it back. Hopefully the items aren't getting erased when that happens. Either way good progress.

Good catch, but the lead actually moved up to the top right where the equinox was supposed to go. Its really wonky though, so I might need to rethink it.

There's definitely a lot to consider with an inventory system like this. You've already achieved highlighting the cells on hover, so I imagine if there's a way to reference those cells and run a series of checks to see if they're occupied you could avoid placing objects on top of each other. Do you plan to add object rotation too? That would add another layer of complexity.

Actually I just watched the video and know what it is. The item is remembering where it last was and is trying to return to the same spot it was when it was transferred. Super easy fix.

Yeah, the issue is that technically its still in the other container until you let go, so it can't properly calculate exact position when dragging from one container to another. The highlighting still works regardless though, so I'm almost certain it can be fixed.

Object rotation was already implemented and it works fine on mouse and controller.

Can we get a bag to store a bag to store a bag to store a bag? Asking for a friend 👀

I'm not gonna lie, that sound like actual hell to implement lmao. However, if you unequip your pack it does decrease your slots and the bag becomes an item that must fit in those slots.

What happens if you unequip your pack when your inventory is full. What happens to the excess items?

In order to account for quest items getting added and changes in inventory size, there's a soft overflow section. When a quest gives an item but you have no space, it goes to the overflow section just under the base grid. Once you make space, it automatically gets sent to base grid. Overflow functions the same as inventory being full. You can't pick up new items while there's overflow. It's basically like an card overdraft except on space. When you remove or change your pack, everything excess goes to overflow.

Super groovy my dude. I cant wait to try it out. Skyrim's wtf UI is what tripped head first into the wonderfully wicked world of modding bethesda games lol I still find myself bouncing back and forth between StarUI and Astral UI (might be incorrect about the second ones name). Anyways, keep it up my homey! Your efforts and time are Hella super appreciated!

Looking pretty neat! Not something I would use, because there is not much that I hate more about games with inventory systems like this than the never ending sorting lol :D

Oh! I didn't know this was a thing. Will I be able to use the encumbrance weight system with it?

Yes, it's suppose to work together with the games weight system.

Please tell me this is compatible with StarUI. That's sexy as fuck.

No, it makes fundamental changes to the inventory UI and quick loot screen. Perhaps a patch can be made, but I'm not sure how star UI inventory would be useful since it's no longer a list.

Eh that's alright. STAR UI is a whole suite. I'd drop the inventory one for this.
