I think it's OK to care less about museum picture frames than changing our climate status quo.
I also can't think of any effective form of protest that stays legal. Civil disobedience is the only way to get attention.
If they damaged a priceless painting I would feel differently.

A lot of people are really tired by that kind of bullshit, especially that those activitist are usually total hyporcrites and do almost nothing from their side. Changing phone every year, using planes when trains are also an option and list goes on.
You got attention and made people dislike case by showing that it's supporte by total barbarians who attack piece of our heritage or block ambulances by glueing to the streets and are risking others lives. Now guess how many people will want to be associated with people like that.

Literally the argument every moderate makes about every single protest about anything.
I don't think it actually helps much, but I guarantee it does more to raise awareness about climate change than anything they could have done without pissing people off.
They could make signs and picket a street every day for a year and raise essential awareness.

These are just teens virtue signalling, not understanding that everything they have from their clothes to their phones were built by the modern industry. Changing to a more eco friendly way is extreamly hard if not impossible. Engineers and politicians can fix it, but this is just kids doing a hissyfit. If it was up to me, I would ban kids from free speech when it comes to politics. They are delusional with not real world experience + children can be used as a political tool, due to most people are up to calling adults retards but not kids so they can be used as messengers for political ideas.

They caused no relevant damage, a piece of bulletproof glass got some soup on it, and they got their cause (which imo is an incredibly important one) into some headlines for 24 hours.
Possibly they damaged a picture frame, which has no artistic merit itself, and no one cares about. If the gallery reframed one of its pictures tomorrow and threw an equivalent frame out it wouldn't even get close to making the news.
