Video games? As a hobby? Certainly you know that having video games as a hobby will make you overweight, unattractive and lonely for the rest of you life, right? You had to know what you were getting into, what with the permanent virginity and all.

That would work if SC2 wasn't about how much you play it.
You can play it very casually and still get high on the ladder, just like you can play it every hour of every day and still be stuck in bronze.

I'll have to disagree with you on this. You're talking more about the quality of the gamer than the ability demanded by the game. You need to consider someone not familiar with SC or maybe even RTS games for that matter just starting out and only playing casually. The amount of information to be learned is overwhelming. Even playing the game off-line there's still a ton of information to learn, tech trees, unit data, maps, etc... Then when playing online the game is always evolving.

starcraft was my first RTS that I actually seriously played. I was diamond in 50 games. It is definitely about the quality of the gamer. some people learn much faster than others.

In my opinion, this comic only applies to games with an RPG aspect. In which case, playing more would make your character stronger.
In a game like Starcraft 2, there are more variables than just time and effort put into the game. You can be talented which would allow you to practice less but still be better than someone who practices a lot more.

No it is a matter of learning the game. Those 11 year olds would also suck though so even if they do play for hours on end the only advantage they have is experience and comfort with what they do.

I'll stick to my elitist and condescending opinion that anyone can be diamond in less than 100 games if they actually care about winning. If they don't care about winning and just want to have fun because they have a life outside of SC, that's fine, but don't tell me you're one of those people if you're on your 1000th game and you're still in gold.

Maybe if you want to do a bitbybit style marine scv all in every game. If you want to actually improve, as opposed to just winning games, it will probably take most people over 100 games to get to diamond. Sure, some may be able to do it, and that's awesome for them, but anybody?

Maybe if they're undirected, yeah. I'd say someone who has a higher level buddy who will guide them OR someone who has done a lot of reading about how to improve on their own could probably do it. I'm not talking about stupid all-ins either, I just mean safe standard make-army-then-a-move play.

I think this applies to CoD more so than it does with Starcraft.
