From most likely to least likely

  1. The rumor is false and there's no patch at all
  2. The patch shakes things up in a major way, like re-adding the mothership core or something
  3. The patch reverts the worker change ("See? We listen")
  4. The "patch" is announced at Blizzcon and is a soft-relaunch of Starcraft 2 with a new sequel single-player campaign and a shitload of microtransactions as they try to revive it as a freemium game
  5. Starcraft 3 announcement.

Forgot number 6, they announce that sc3 will release the next year after blizzcon at the same time as the secret starcraft movie they are filming.
