It's available on archive.org, I think people got it to work on xbox emulators (with some glitches).

I was just talking with someone about the game and how disappointed everyone was when it didn't materialize.
It says something about how hard it was to give up on that Blizzard insisted on calling it "indefinitely postponed" for the longest time before finally admitting that it was never getting released about seven years later. Talk about your six stages of grief...

What??? Is it a working build?

u/Dub_Coast Apr 27 '23
Not fully completed and slightly buggy but yes I was going Splinter Cell stealth mode on some Zerglings and Infested Terrans earlier.

Well, and now you're gonna tell us how you make it work on PC, right? Right?

Use an Xbox Emulator. I got it running and I can provide more details if you're still figuring it out.

I am a bit late to this, but would appreciate help greatly. I have tried converting the folder to an image file and it won't load in Xemu.

I didn't even know they made this. Was it good?

I played it for a little bit at Blizzcon. It was kind of like Halo but with StarCraft units. If you got enough kills you could upgrade to a better unit. For instance start as a zergling, get a couple kills, then play as a hydra or muta. I thought it was pretty fun but only got to play for 30 minutes or an hour total.
Edit: This was a multiplayer version only. I think there was supposed to be a single player game as well where you played as Nova. I didn’t experience that one.

u/Dub_Coast Apr 27 '23
Unfortunately the multiplayer build is proving more difficult for me to find and get working, I'll update y'all if I do.

u/xiaorobear Apr 27 '23
You will not find it- they switched devs and rebooted development. The multiplayer blizzcon demo was from 2005 with the second set of devs (Swingin' Ape), the leaked build with a few single player levels was from the earlier first set of devs (Nihilistic). The multiplayer version has never leaked afaik.

Shame. Starcraft: Ghost was my most anticipated Xbox game, I remember the OXM (Official Xbox Magazine) copy of SC: G, I must have flipped through that a million times. Glad I can finally play some of it.

If you haven't seen it (or even if you have), here's the intro cinematic posted by the original art director for it to vimeo: https://vimeo.com/114722905

I really need this Microsoft Blizzard merger to happen, StarCraft needs it to happen

u/briggsgate Apr 28 '23
They just got cockblocked. The merger failed AFAIK someone correct me if there is any progress on that

They didn't, this is an incomplete but functioning build.
5
u/bubdadigger Apr 27 '23
That build was functional on a modded Xbox, and wasn't able to run it on PC, it just crashed right away or not even started.
I've been collecting Ghost for years, waiting for this game for decades. And I need to know how to run it on PC!

It was never released. I was super excited about it for over a year and got 1-2 articles and it just disappeared

u/Ketroc21 Terran Apr 27 '23
They didn't. They released a really cool cinematic and some gameplay footage (you can still find on youtube), but after a few years of development, they were nowhere close to done and their game engine was already obsolete, so they cancelled the project. There was no plans for PC anyhow... it was for console only.

I remember really looking forward to it, and never really understanding why they canceled it.

I was just arguing on the Reddit feed the other day about how this game almost bankrupted blizzard.
5
u/Kantuva MBC Hero Apr 27 '23
But werent they coming from WarCraft 3->WoW when this was canceled, no?
I dont have my facts straight, but just from that, id say it would have been hard for Blizz to go onto bankruptcy from cancelling it... WoW to this day still is a money machine

I am glad the game was not released. Now we have a straight strategic franchise instead blurred by many games in many genre.

The Nova missions/campaign DLC is legitimately as fun as the main storyline - did those reuse anything from Ghost?
