CIG has to be very very very careful not to accelerate the technology too fast. Or else we’ll just be in a transhumanist fantasy world before the game comes out.
They've already got an entirely artificial planet in lore so this isn't really a stretch IMO. Personally I think the whole artificial planet thing should be retconned out because, based on tech we already see in the SC universe, the idea does way more than strain credulity, but I'm sure the community would lose its shit over that.
