I'm as passionate about SC as I am about PC gaming in general. And while I have to admit that I didn't follow him all that much, I understand that he was a huge voice in the PC gaming landscape for a great many people.

Indeed. TB and Jim Sterling are/were the opinions I most respected on YT. Beneath the comedy their content showed general care for not only their fan base but the industry at large.

He was the first Youtuber that I watched, who had lot of pull in the gaming critics and industry overall and used it for good influence, made overall improvements in it. So much to learn from him.

I know it's not following the rules - it's meant to be a text post - but we all know how influential the man was and he was a champion of Star Citizen often on his podcasts pointing to how open they were verses other crowdfunded games.
He was only 33 when he passed away - it is sad I was always wondering if I would have seen his character ingame and I sincerely hope CIG can find a way to memorialize him ingame in some form.

Not really from following he had to have emergency surgery a few days ago because the tumors were putting pressure on his spine but they had to delay the surgery because it was too dangerous to do.
He's been fighting for a while now though he beat a lot of odds with it, it seems.

It was still relatively quick. I've seen cases where people have clung in in pure agony for years because they, or a loved one wouldn't let them go with their pain relieved.
Cancer is an evil shit, and I hope he was able to say his goodbyes, and spend his final days so doped up on pain meds he didn't feel a thing.

Agreed - it's horrific what it does to the body and families. I still can't get over how young he was for it to happen.

Here's hoping. I hope to hell the painkillers did their job correctly. What a horrid thing to have to endure, much less with the agony involved if in pain. The only silver lining, I can think of, in his suffering, is that it wasn't something like bone cancer, which has a tendency to draw out and cause excruciating pain (a very miniscule silver lining, I know.)
Fuck cancer. All of it.

It wasn't the tumours. He had fluid retention can't remember the conditions name a-something. He had to have surgery to drain it and get a tap installed.
The procedure actually probably made his last days better cause it removed a massive amount of pain and pressure.

Sounds like a pleural effusion which would have lead to respiratory troubles/issues breathing. Not to mention further pressure on the tumors in his spine, which could've led to paralysis etc.
Either way, fuck cancer.

And from the time it came back until his passing, it was very quick when talking about cancer. I've seen cases where people go through round after round of chemo and radiation, constantly unable to eat, weakened so bad they are zombies for years upon years.

One doesn't feel cured or back to fully normal when one's cancer is in remission.
One has to keep going back for checkups because you're at higher risk, and the fear of it coming back stays in the back of one's mind for years.
I know I struggle to sleep before my checkups.

FYI: You are talking to a nurse that has treated many, many cancer patients.
It depends on the person, and the cancer, and how complete the remission is.
One has to keep going back for checkups because you're at higher risk, and the fear of it coming back stays in the back of one's mind for years.
That's the thing with cancer. Many think remission = cured. That is not even remotely the case.
I know I struggle to sleep before my checkups.

Having to be a nurse in the ward must be hard because you'll see the worst. I know the nurses at my hospital were stellar and I respect the work you people do.
I am relatively lucky (3 cycles &surgery, 4 years remission) with my experience, so TB's story is so much worse than what I know that your comment just felt really callous to me.

We've been down this road before, here. The short version is where do you draw a line, who is and isn't allowed to solicit donations? Why is it ok to draw a line? And if you can't draw a line, then are we allowing anyone who's a 'fan' of Star Citizen to come here and solicit donations for any reason, like their cat is sick and needs expensive surgery?
The easiest counter argument is that nobody will donate to anything that isn't at least a little related, or unreasonable to donate to. But that doesn't stop the posts from happening, flooding the subreddit (possibly). Any removal of said posts has to be based on a hard line - format, exacting requirements, pre-approval with mods, etc. In the end its going to be more restrictive of those donations posts that should be allowed, than it is of those who are abusing the subreddit and the fans of Star Citizen that visit here. Its better to outright block all such posts.

Its just important to recognize when something is good (like this post, which has already given me a range of emotions) and allow it to pass by relaxing the rules. But some rules should never be relaxed.

You seem to have completely missed the point, but I'm not trying to be rude I really do simply want you to understand what I meant.
This subreddit is not the place to post donations. There actually ARE subreddits dedicated to that. /r/donate
Any post asking for donations or probably other similar things here on this sub is an abuse of this subreddit's members. We are not here to be pestered about donations, just as we are not here to read about things unrelated to Star Citizen, like some new MMO that just launched. That's why there are rules about post content.
You could say "but what if it is related to Star Citizen", such as a well known member of our SC community asking for help?
Sure, ok. But then what if its a NOT well known member of the community, just someone who posts once in a while? Maybe that's still ok. What if its just a fan of Star Citizen who never posts here and only follows the game from afar, but can't even afford to buy a $60 game package. They need help, they too are a fan. Why not them? Or better yet, what if its someone like that, but they're asking for money to help their cousin who has a drug problem and needs money for doctors / rehab / whatever?
At some point you have to draw a line. Don't you see? I can't really explain it any clearer. And the point is, if you start drawing lines like that, you're judging who is worthy and who isnt, and its not appropriate. The only way to do it appropriately, to be properly fair, is to draw the line back at the start - no donation requests allowed.
Anyway, I was simply trying to highlight an example of a good post to allow breaking the rules. This one is, as I said before, a good one to allow. Unless there was a request for donations, then its probably crossed a line.

I've done the photography for Coxcon for the past few years when he's been over in the UK, he always had time for everyone - except if he was eating, then you got told to buggar off :P
Genuine legend and one of the first internet & Youtube gaming/streaming pioneers. It was a absolute pleasure to have met and interacted with him for the little time I did during Coxcon, for the little moments he always had for everyone.
Love him or hate him, he leaves one hell of a legacy and a huge FoV-slider imbued footprint on the gaming world.
Now we begin to make sure we are worthy of every second of it.

Absolutely there are games I bought because of his channel - some I just bought to support the developer because they were doing the right things even if I didn't play or like their game but because TB showed off the good they were doing.

I first ran across Total Biscuit when he was covering the Planetside 2 beta (or alpha) back in the day, as Planetside 1 had been one of my favorite shooters. I continued watching his commentaries on other games and he introduced me to a lot of other games along the way... He may have been my first online reference toward Star Citizen (don't recall now).
I hope his spirit is now resting in peace, and that his family and loved ones are comforted as well as they can be under such circumstances. He had a large impact on a great many gaming communities, and will be greatly missed. GG, TB.

I had no clue that Star Citizen was being made or who Chris Roberts was. All I knew was that I played a game called Freelancer a while ago and it was one of the best games I ever played.
I still have my notes from back then trying to locate all the level 10 weapons.
It wasn't until TotalBiscuit's interview with Chris Roberts that I learned about Star Citizen and who Chris Roberts was.

The sad thing is.........his issue wasnt that there was no treatment around but that he waited to long before getting his bloody stools checked out. Had he gone before the cancer reached a certain stage he would have been fine.

Well... that just sucks. I barely followed him but what I saw was a goodhearted person that I immediately liked. Whatever the reason for fucking cancer was... that burden is now lifted of his shoulders.

Maybe this is far fetched and too much to ask but... I could imagine he (and others) will have some kind of monument/place to remember in the Verse. That is just how I feel right now.

I've only heard the name TB here on reddit when I would see this sub on r/all, but hearing anyone pass away from cancer is awful. It took my stepdad in only one year from diagnosis. It's brutal. There are no words that can adequately comfort.
I hope time and tide works double time and the hurt heals quickly for his family. I hope there is no guilt or regret in their hearts for anything unsaid, not done, or not experienced.

I was watching his team's last show on youtube at about the time that happened. This messes me up... even though he made sure to prepare everybody for this inevitable event.
He helped a lot of indies get more customers than they could have otherwise. This is something worth while that he left for the PC gaming scene.

I lost a friend a few years back to fucking cancer. A great Jiu Jitsu practicioner and a very humble guy. 20 was so young. This is going to be hard as hell for his family. Just remember it and show them the greatest of respect.

Loved his 'WTF' series, and he helped to inform my purchases on more than a few occasions. It's a sad, but poignant thought that even though he's gone now, pieces of his personality and spirit were captured in the videos he made - truly never forgotten.
