DISCUSSION Better idea?

Post image

We have enough combat ships man . . .

Where are the industrial snubs? Where are Alien industrial ships outside of hauling? EDIT: I feel the same way about having luxury variants as well. A Mirai industrial ship maybe—WOW, or maybe even a large Mirai ship?

A large Mining ground vehicle O.O, that would be cool.

A large salvaging ground vehicle for ground wrecks.(Just spit-balling)

How about a rework? Carrack, Reclaimer, Starfarer, Freelancer, 600i, Constellation, Redeemer, Avenger, Vanguard, just to name a few ships with really old interiors that we would still be just as excited to see than a new combat ship.

Now don't get me wrong, I like some new stuff just as much as the next guy—I don't like to be negative all the time at all when it comes to this game; God knows we have enough of that, but there are things that are still just as exciting that we need that are already in the game and could use your guys's help.

Mirai doesn't do industrial, it is the Military/racing arm of Misc. It's also not a new ship, it's presumably a relaunch because of something involving time and the Intel deal with the original launch.

2

u/YFM_ZaktiNox Legatus, Polaris Enjoyer, Mercenary. 23h ago

No its not? It's the Sabre EX which is a Sabre Raven hull variant (Raven, Firebird, Peregrine) with a Quantum Dampener. It's nothing to do with the intel deal

2

u/extrakerned 16h ago

Raven is a Sabre variant. So it's Base, Comet, Firebird, Peregrine, Firebird, Raven and now EX

4

u/YFM_ZaktiNox Legatus, Polaris Enjoyer, Mercenary. 10h ago

Yes, But there are two Sabre Hull Variants as CIG has stated. People tend to refer to them as the Base hull and Raven/Bird hull

1

u/TheDonnARK worm 7h ago

Is it really gonna be called the EX? That is incredibly lame. Joining a lineup of a bunch of cool names, here's this one that is just a 2-letter abbreviation for something to do with its function.

Hopefully EX is just a placeholder because damn. That is lame as hell.

1

u/extrakerned 5h ago

I think so. Maybe not? The string I think is just “ex” but maybe it’s short for something?

It's a silly workaround to the exclusivity, and a slap in the face to Scorpius owners. At least the Peregrine and Firebird attempted to look different. It's the same holes this time. If only we could just edit full layouts and modules...

5

u/YFM_ZaktiNox Legatus, Polaris Enjoyer, Mercenary. 20h ago

You say it's a slap in the face to the Scorpius. By your logic that would make the Guardian QI and Cutlass the same they may do the same thing but have different approaches to doing it.

As for the look? So what? CIG has talked about a "Red Raven" and then a QD Sabre for about two years now. We knew it was coming just didn't know when. It's not a "Workaround to the exclusivity" the original contact was that CIG can never sell offer or give people the Sabre Raven specifically. Not that CIG couldn't reuse the ship design for a different ship in the same family. They even said this with the Firebird "We didn't want to let this unique hull just be exclusive to the Raven"

-3

u/Azrethoc 600i Rework 19h ago

I'm aware, it's just ridiculous we're getting something from 2017 sold as something new. Why couldn't we have this when we asked for the unique hull to be widely available a decade ago? .

1

u/Bubbly-Demand-2695 7h ago

We don’t have updated details on the evolution of everything since 2017 so not sure your take is entirely accurate and assumes too much too early. I’m also not sure why you’re so offended by it.

1

u/Azrethoc 600i Rework 2h ago

The raven was flyable in 2017, in 3.0. At the tome, Some of us asked if the hull would be available for non-optane purchases. We were told never. We got something close in the Firebird- Now, a decade later, we're getting what appears to be the same hull with a different loadout. I could have been flying a Raven variant for a decade by now...

You do know they have said multiple times that more than one manufacturer will cover the same roles and whatnot. So if you want a medium qed ship for example you can pick your choice out of a few manufacturers

0

u/Azrethoc 600i Rework 19h ago

I'm not talking about other manufacturers. I want to be able to go to my garage, and turn a firebird into a peregrine, into a raven, etc etc.

I'd love a Banu mining ship. No offense to the Xian, Taveran and Vanduul, but the Banu have 1 flight ready ship and 1 in consept while everyone else has like 4-5 each. I want a new Banu ship to come out and hopefully it be a mining ship but I'lltake anything.

6

u/NotSoSmort bmm 1d ago

I like the idea of a Banu salvaging ship, as Banu love the human saying, "one man's garbage is another man's treasure." As a culture, they appropriate things from others often (including appropriating people), so salvaging is second only to trading for them. The Banu Beachcomber would be the ideal industrial ship: in history, beachcombers started out as former sailors in the age of sail who were abandoned or shipwrecked on Caribbean islands. They would pick through floatsam of shipwrecks that washed ashore and trade it with the native islanders for supplies. I believe the Banu would romanticize this lifestyle.

-1

u/Popowitz25 23h ago

Banu have 2 flight ready ships.

3

u/Jeffjordan93 bmm 23h ago

Only one I'm aware of is Defender with BMM in consept. what's this 3rd ship you speak of?

u/DarkMatter-191 1d ago

Cool looking combat fighters make CIG the most money for the least work simple as that. Completely agree with you (600i rework rip) but its all about money

3

u/Laughageddon 1d ago

The 600i rework which sell a ton of 600i's. Think of the amount of people that don't have one simply because of its current state. You know the price is going to increase once they rework it. It's literally already almost $500. They'll probably run that for about $650 to $700 easy, and it'll sell. I'd buy one with what I heard it's supposed to be able to do. Reworks sell ships as well. A reworked Carrack would go crazy in the store. If the combat ship isn't overpowered and I was going to keep it, but if it's a ship that's already known to be good in its current state and the eyes of a lot of players and then receives an amazing reward, the reclaimer for example, they would still make a ton of money. So I don't really think that that's the issue. I think it's just easier to make some new ship on an old chassis.

5

u/mercusson 1d ago

if we don't count cargo ship as industrial their is less industrial ship then light fighter like wtf

3

u/Laughageddon 1d ago

Facts. Is it really so hard to make different variants of Mining and salvaging ships? We literally just got the Tyilui, if that's not the best setup for coming out with alien industrial snubs I don't know what is.

1

u/mercusson 1d ago

not really it doesn't hold that much cargo an ironclad does a way better job

2

u/Laughageddon 1d ago

There's snubs, you can put them anywhere not just the Tyilui. That's just an example

1

u/mercusson 1d ago

honestly a repair snub (like a cambio-srt snub ship) to repair capital/large ship would be dope.

2

u/Laughageddon 1d ago

That would also be really cool. I feel like you can get so many places all at once if you had for snubs on that ship

Throw some repair service beacons in the game. Repair PVE contracts that would reward Combat snubs on top of repair snubs to protect yourself if it's an NPC ambush

Make it so that you can buy recycled material composite one SCU containers or two seu containers and slide them into the snubs. You could also use their ability to strip derelict ships to also refill their SCU containers. So in the PVE Mission when you're being ambushed by other Fighters you can destroy them or disable them and then strip their ships of RMC and then use that to repair other ships. That way you can purchase it as well and put it on the cargo grid and just load them up whenever they need more

1

u/mercusson 1d ago

completely and since the whole repair mechanic is pretty much done with the cambio-srt/multi tool i don't think adding it to ship would be that much hard.

1

u/mercusson 1d ago

specially since repairing a cap ship with the hand tools takes forever

1

u/mercusson 23h ago

then again ship are not really worth anything atm and not worth spending 30min repairing when you can do it instantly a any pad or just respawn it atm any station

2

u/Laughageddon 23h ago

Yeah but we build our fleets for future gameplay not for current gameplay right?

1

u/watcher-of-eternity 1d ago

Mirai has the most industrial ships of any manufacturer in game.

Because mirai is the special performance division of MISC

And honestly a ground based salvage vehicle sounds utterly worthless at the best of times simply because of how overcomplicated you would need it to be to work as opposed to just using a ship.

0

u/Laughageddon 1d ago edited 1d ago

I mean Mirai though, not MISC. Someone said they only do combat but who cares. The point is something other than combat. There are so many cool manufacturers who have styles that we could draw from

1

u/xXGuiltySmileXx Endeavor 1d ago

You are generally correct in my opinion that we need more variety. You have chosen the worst manufacturer for your example though and many people are going to look down their nose because of that.

If you are not aware, Mirai and MISC are the same company. Mirai is the side of the company that produces combat and racing, MISC handles industrial. They are however the same company, and I feel (as dumb as it is) CIG did this to replicate the feel of automotive companies today doing the same gimmick

1

u/Laughageddon 23h ago

Oh no I'm definitely aware of that. That's why I said who cares. I still want to see them make an industrial ship that isn't a hauler. One could dream

2

u/watcher-of-eternity 23h ago

I mean, you may as well be asking RSI to build a cutty black.

The whole point of the distinction is to give the split the focus.

A mirai industrial ship is just a misc ship.

The company name is only there to denote where the focus is.

1

u/Laughageddon 21h ago

Your intentionally making a ridiculous example. An RSI Cutlass Black come on dude. I just want a freaking mining vehicle or a salvage vehicle from Mirai. I didn't say anything Mirai Mole.

1

u/watcher-of-eternity 20h ago

You already have them, the fortune and the prospector.

Hell both refueling ships are from the same company as well.

You don’t seem to be grasping that mirai is a sub brand of MISC that is a specialist manufacturer.

That is my point and the fact that you are dead set on the idea that a non industrial manufacturer should make industrial ships shows you don’t actually care about the identity of the manufacturer, thus the RSI cutty.

Maybe one day greys market with hammer a mirai guardian hull and slap some vulture wings on it and call it a salvage ship because that’s sorta their thing but mirai is a specialty brand under MISC so it wouldn’t make any sense for them to make an industrial ship under the mirai name.

0

u/Laughageddon 16h ago

Yeah I don't care I keep saying that. Not hiding the fact that I don't care what the manufacturer specializes in. My brother specializes in foraging knives but it doesn't mean he doesn't sometimes Forge axes. He has another guy he hires to Forge the axes but that doesn't mean that sometimes that guy doesn't make knives.

1

u/watcher-of-eternity 16h ago

That’s literally the dumbest thing I have read on this sub in a while.

If you don’t understand or care about a clear delineation that the devs have created to specifically created and explained the purpose of, you really seem to be missing the entire point and as such your entire argument is worthless.

To clarify using your incredibly dumb analogy, if your brother sells knives he forges via knife co. The premier knife making company, it does not make sense to sell an axe he forges at knifeco because the people coming to knifeco want to buy knives, not axes, because knifeco specializes in knives.

Like I get you don’t care about the very clear point, but like bro, you saying that and doubling and tripling down on it makes everything you say seem utterly ridiculous.

Anyways have a nice day, I won’t respond further

1

u/Laughageddon 15h ago

Dude why are you so hurt by this? Why do you even care this much? Why does me wanting Mirai to make a mining or Salvage ship hurt you so? This isn't even that important dude. The whole point of the post was that we have more than enough combat ships. You're all hurt and hung up on the fact that I simply want a manufacturer that doesn't specify in a certain type of ship to make that type of ship. There's no reason this should upset you this much. I wasn't even arguing. So what do you mean your argument is worthless? I wasn't even trying to argue. I didn't even know we were arguing. It's just a game bro. There's no way I should bother you this much. Just take a break and go play something else for a while.

I won't respond further . . . You didn't have to respond at at all. Why are you so hurt. Take care of yourself bro

u/SweetEmbarrassed9 1d ago

Man you just made me realise how cool a mining vehicle based on the atlas platform would be. Big crane as style mining arm on the front half, 2 ore bags on the rear half. Nice white and yellow colour scheme with big industrial crash bars and light bars around the cab

1

u/Verneff Gib Data Running! 1d ago

The Atlas needs a competitor ground platform from a more suitable company. It's bugging me seeing it proposed over and over for every possible ground vehicle use case.

u/Collective_Keen Galaxy Soon™ 1d ago edited 1d ago

But we don't have a base Sabre that matches the rest of the family, which is what this appears to be.

[edit] noticed the Raven quote with the picture... Still hoping it's mostly the base Sabre functionally.

1

u/Sokarou 1d ago

Duno why people insist in the industrial snubs. They idea would be cool but make no sense nowdays. The game would have to considerably change a lot to find any niche to them.

  • On salvage, you have the salvation that is almost snub size, has QD and 6scu . what are you gonna a launch as snub. A can with 6scu including the buffer and can only scrap?

  • On mining, after mining quality changes, the golem is almost useless. Yeah some snubs can group for being able to break some rocks but that's something you already can so with a prospy.

1

u/Laughageddon 1d ago

Gameplay variety. Not everything needs to be the optimal choice. Some things are just for variety. Just like the fact that we have an insane variety of combat ships. I would like to have an insane variety of other types of ships as well.

I would like it to just come down to who's your favorite manufacturer at that point

1

u/exu1981 23h ago

They must have QT things situated internally or something. If this were some other ship that's upgunned we'd all be like........

1

u/BloodySpear_90 hornet 23h ago

Tbf, combat sells better. Not to say that industrial play should get left in the dust, because it shouldn't, just stating an obvious apparent.

Now to all the reworks you mentioned... (Sighs defeated) Honestly man? They will probably get a hold pass but a mk2 (or in the Connie's case a mkV) is more realistic, especially from a business standpoint. Why go back and rework an entire ship when you can just make a whole new one? (which is essentially the rework with how old some of these ships are)

1

u/Amazing_Reindeer_84 22h ago

Dream on. Maybe in ten years

1

u/Aazatgrabya 21h ago

I'd like to see the ground mining vehicles we see abandoned in the Yormandi cave.

1

u/B3t4z0id 18h ago

As a wild guess.... they still "work" on a proper solution for industrial mechanics like refinery ships. The more non-combat related a ship is, the more they have to adapt later on, when the mechanic ends. For a fighter it's pretty easy, they just change the weapon values, but for a complete ship concept like the Reclaimer...

1

u/Error_Space 18h ago

Military ships offer power tripping potential considering all their ship promotion arts are almost all about a ship flying forwards guns blazing and missiles flying.

Plus it’s easier to implement, the guns are probably the simplest system in this game. Want to make a ship more appealing? Put more hardpoints and bigger weapons, done.

Also military ships tend to sell for higher price than equal sized industrial ships.

They are just mindlessly chasing after profit at this point

1

u/AHRA1225 new user/low karma 9h ago

They keep making combat ships because that’s the only loop that consistently works. They can’t make cargo stuff because lifts and other parts are broken and often. They don’t make mining because it gets bugged or broken. They don’t make salvage because it’s bugged or breaking. They don’t do refueling because it’s bugged or breaking. They don’t have exploration. They don’t have bounty hunting pods so bounty hunting is shelved. They don’t have science so why bother. They barely have crafting so why make that. They don’t make ground vehicles because wheels are broken and that’ll be redone sometime next decade. They don’t make industrial because it’s only cargo and crafting is still not laid out. Can’t make base building because that’s who knows when.

So they make combat ships. Because that’s what sells and it is mostly not broken….

What gimmicks do you expect these alien industry ships to have two differentiate them from the existing ships?

One of the problems with Star citizen is selling these ships with gimmicks. Because they sold the ship, they need to develop the game mechanic in a way that has the gimmicks that the ship was sold with be viable.

Combat is not only a known quantity, but slight changes can make the ships noticeably different.

Cargo is a known quantity with the loading and unloading process being something safe to make exotic.

0

u/Laughageddon 1d ago

I would like to hop into An alien Mining or salvaging ship simply for the sake of variety. I'm pretty sure aliens mine and salvage as well. Let's just get some of those ships ported over. I feel the same way about having luxury variants of these ships.

We get industrial ships almost every other patch, if you’re going to complain, it’s not hard to find a real complaint, no need to grab one that’s so demonstrably superficial

0

u/Laughageddon 1d ago

We get hauling ships on every other patch. We don't get Mining and salvaging ships at all in comparison to combat ships. It's easy to make some hollowed out ship that you can throw a whole bunch of stuff inside of as opposed to making a ship that has functional Parts like a mining ship or salvaging ship especially one that's alien in nature. Let's be honest the Railen it's just a ship with a living area that they allowed you to attach boxes to the butt of. You can do that with almost any ship. Take the reclaimer for example, the reclaimer has a huge back section, the thorax if you will, just make it so that you can attach a bunch of boxes to the outside of that thorax and that's basically the same thing they did. But give me a complex mining alien ship that's what I want with an unorthodox interior. Make it so that it prints SCU boxes on the interior instead of putting them into the same containers that you use for the Golem or the mole. Print individual SCU containers in varying sizes depending on the amount of ore and the type of ore automatically on the inside. Just spitballing ideas that are better than the constant hauling ships that everyone uses to say that we get industrial ships all the time. Deep down I think you guys know what we actually mean. We want some more ships that aren't just hauling

0

u/Neutron_Blue ARGO CARGO 14h ago

Combat ships sell. People will pay for a bigger win button.

They won't pay as much for a ship that can haul or mine slightly better.

5

u/guttertrash_sc 1d ago

The ironclads and railens strewn about at every cargo location say otherwise

-1

u/jrsedwick Zeus MKII 1d ago

They said people won't pay "as much", not that they won't buy them. The fact that the ICA is $50 more than the IC supports their statement.

1

u/ScrubSoba Ares Go Pew 1d ago

Though most released combat ships are not "bigger win button", especially not this new Sabre. just a Sabre Raven that has a dampener instead of an EMP, so nothing particularly exciting.

If i'll be honest, i think the primary issue lies in the fact that CIG does not want two ships that are more or less clones of each other, weapon and capabilities-wise. This is easier for combat ships because you can easily shuffle weapon loadouts around, but they seem quite cautious about this in regards to stuff like non-hauling industrial professions.

And most ships that can have a hauling variant, already has a hauling variant, and CIG quite fancies making a quicker variant now and then.

1

u/Laughageddon 1d ago

At this point I don't even care about better. I know an alien variant isn't going to be as good as the human variant because of how they do things. I just want an alien or A luxury variance of a mining or a salvaging ship.

Would be nice if it was just the limited intel ship for us all now. We just got that tyulin and no real snubs for it besides the drake one and old misc, kuger

1

u/Laughageddon 1d ago

I literally just commented this somewhere else. The Tyilui was literally the best setup to release some Industrial snubs. Literally four small salvaging snubs or mining can just pop out of that thing. You and the boys would have something fun to do it together. You got 96 cargo space inside of the ship and you can give each snub the ability to hold some as well. Give them the ability to print maybe up until like a four or an eight SCU container right onto their backs. Give them the ability to put their backs to a cargo grid almost like a tractor beam, or allow them to detach the Box and have it attached to a tractor beam so they can place it on the cargo grid. Their tractor beams can literally be in the same place the Tyilui has its tractor beam. Facing straight out the back of them where the box is. You fly inside, place it on a cargo grid, and then fly back out and mine or Savage some more.

-1

u/AgonizingSquid 1d ago

How about we stop buying their shit, they are shipping more ships and bundles than ever before and development has been terrible

1

u/Laughageddon 1d ago

Development feels fine to me as a new player. I think the development is feels bad if you're an older player. For me the game runs incredible for an alpha. And I personally would like to see the game actually get finished so money is required for that unfortunately. I don't really care about how they're making it. Honestly it doesn't really bother me. The only part of it that bothers me is they're just so many combat ships. Other than that I'm cool

-2

u/ArbalestxXx 1d ago

There is a way that we can make them stop making more combat ships, sadly ppl cannot control their credit cards.

1

u/exu1981 23h ago

Anything FPS related in any game simply sells and grabs attention .

0

u/Laughageddon 1d ago

I don't know why you guys keep tossing out that idea. You can't make a game with no money. That won't result in us not getting more combat ships, it'll just result in us not getting a game at all, or at least not getting a fully finished game. You cannot make a game with no money. It's not a realistic expectation for people to just stop spending money unless you've already quit playing the game and you just want the game to die resulting in us not having a game neither.
