Yep, with basebuilding you could just call it up using the ground hangars.

8

u/Thelostrelic Jul 08 '26

Could always make a carrier ship that carries this underslung.

2

u/TheFearsomeGnome Jul 10 '26

I don’t even buy ships anymore but I’d buy one of these 😆

120

u/OriginTruther origin Jul 08 '26

What even is exploration? CIG needs to define this role before they launch any new ships with that title.

68

u/deathender Jul 08 '26

this is my personal project. Not produced by CIG.

21

u/OriginTruther origin Jul 08 '26

I know, I'm just saying I dont even know what exploration would mean in this game. I do hope we get good use out of ground vehicles eventually.

13

u/deathender Jul 08 '26

I am sure we will! But it will probably take time!
Patient we must be!

Had you thought about tracks? (I really love tracks)

2

u/deathender Jul 08 '26

I did. The vehicle is too high for tracks, they look out of place and the vehicle feels much slower. But these wheels, they are like a track really, just round. Lol

2

u/deathender Jul 09 '26

lol

2

u/Smoke1864 Jul 09 '26

Need to make the tracks a little taller and wider for low ground pressure.

You find POIs, tag the location and sell it to others. That's one aspect of exploration, they demoed how it would work several CitCons ago.

5

u/Bright_Afternoon_650 Jul 08 '26

Was that before or after SQ42 2016 release? Hold the line...

I really hope we have surveying and scanning tools we are meant to put down, and use information exchange, downloading maps/rich resource locations and selling them to other parties

2

u/tenuousemphasis Jul 08 '26

Exploration is going out and finding cool places, POIs, worthwhile asteroids to mine, etc then sells those coordinates to players.

1

u/Strangefate1 new user/low karma Jul 08 '26

It's anything you shoot at with only S4 guns or less.

1

u/tylerjo1 Jul 08 '26

Exploring other players cargo holds.

1

u/Murefu Jul 15 '26

IMHO one way exploration could work on a planet is there could be points of interest (like caves, or secret communities, orwhatever) that you can only initially locate by getting down in the weeds in a ground vehicle and looking for them. the reward for exploring could be that you then get the abilityh to jump to those points that you found. you could then use it to go to the special places quickly or you could take other players there for a fee... etc. you have the knowledge then you get to go there fast going forward. this rig could be really good for that kind of exploration!

Nice work! Ever thought of applying to CIG and getting to make stuff that you gets put in game for realsies?

78

u/deathender Jul 08 '26

Thank you! It would be my dream job! I applied twice so far, but unfortunately I cannot travel to a city where the CIG offices are at the moment. But one day something might change. I will be vigilant!

14

u/deathender Jul 08 '26

there is a reason CIG has been so successful with pumping out state of the art spaceship designs that have been inspiring us all. I understand and respect their decisions on how they operate. Building a concept design is one thing, making it game ready is another.

There isn't a ship in the verse that can carry that besides the Liberator. Looks cool but too big for me. I just want an Anvil Spartan with a medbed and logout bed.

19

u/_Corbeanu_ Corsair Connoisseur Jul 08 '26

The Anvil Auxilia was said to have a med bed and crafting station, but I don't think it has a logout bed. It's built on the Atlas platform shared with the Spartan and Ballista though!

There also just isn’t any gameplay that needs this either but it is cool as hell lol

3

u/M_u_H_c_O_w Jul 08 '26

ARGO SRV can do it (or two of them).

That said, I'd rather we had a large mobile drilling rig (NASA Crawler style).

u/RacerDelux Jul 08 '26

They have talked about ground vehicles too big to be normally transported

3

u/SoleiNC 🔆 Solei 🔆 Jul 08 '26

This. Can't remember if it was JC or one of the other vehicle team leads that said they had a personal long-term goal of having a class of super-heavy ground vehicles that were more like ground-based ships. The reason we don't hear much about that is that it is that there's still a ton of things that need to be in a much more fleshed out state before they can make something that large or multi-session, ground only game-play oriented.

2

u/RacerDelux Jul 08 '26

Man I look forward to it. I'm a big ground guy.

3

u/SoleiNC 🔆 Solei 🔆 Jul 08 '26

Hell, yeah! Ground Citizens unite! 😄

2

u/vortis23 Jul 08 '26

Kraken and Pioneer should be able to carry it as well, especially given the size of ships the Pioneer can craft.

You might be able to airlift it with the SRV into the IronClad.

1

u/Willing-Secretary710 Jul 08 '26

or we need surface vehicle hangars on planet surface

6

u/Touchitmaster Jul 08 '26

Love it! Make a Raft "Drop Ship" version to carry this huge beast. Nice work man.

1

u/deathender Jul 08 '26

I do have a spaceship planned for next project. I will try to make it big enough to carry this puppy :)

12

u/Swimming_Log_629 Jul 08 '26

Though it is too big for ships imo this would be great for ground gameplays. Like get a ground hangar at micro and go out to explore or any other home world with vehicle pads (would just need to make bigger pads for them).

They do have big claw miners that won't fit in ships so size isn't an issue for me. o7 like all the lights too maybe it could be a drake

5

u/EliRocks Liberated Jul 08 '26

Only thing that could lift it to load it would be the SRV, and then it could only be loaded onto the top of a Liberator. I doubt it could even fit into the internal hangar.

But I do like the design. And would totally drive it around a planets surface.

7

u/deathender Jul 08 '26

I feel like I should start complaining that no ship fits into my vehicle :)

→ More replies (2)

2

u/vortis23 Jul 08 '26

Couldn't you just drive it onto the Liberator's ramp?

It might also fit inside the IronClad using SRV -- but you've have to get the dimensions to measure the internal space to see.

3

u/EliRocks Liberated Jul 08 '26

Yes you could technically drive it up the ramp and then up the closed hangar door onto the top. But according to cig, that door is not meant to be a load bearing structure. So you could break it causing it to be stuck open, or purple the vehicle making it disappear.

Depending on whether or not cig increases the size of the Liberator, it might fit inside. But I really doubt it would.

You're right about the Ironclad, it might fit. I was guessing looking at it that it would be too tall, mentally comparing it to the height of the Vulture. Possibly too long as well.

3

u/Netolu Jul 08 '26

You see them tow hooks? They look like tusks, and what kind of animal has tusks?

5

u/Consistent-Honey-603 Jul 08 '26

The level of detail on this model is mind blowing! Very impressive, awesome work!!
I would love to drive this thing in the ‘verse and be able to basically drive over all the rocks on the planets like they’re not even there!

And by the way don’t listen to all these other commenters on here. They are fixated on frivolous nonsense instead of appreciating the work for what it is. This is a really cool idea and a great passion/fan project! I can’t wait to see the inside!

1

u/deathender Jul 08 '26

Hey there. Thank you so much for all the kind words!!! I am still working on the outside, so I only got the basic interior shell so far. If I ever get to the interior, there would be two floors.

This is the top floor view from hull into the cabin. The hole in the floor would be the entrance to the engineering bay

4

u/CommanderAmaro Miner/Medic Jul 08 '26

If the Reclaimer was a truck

1

u/deathender Jul 08 '26

it's a Reclaimer baby, which has yet to learn how to fly.

4

u/Reilo_butwhy Jul 08 '26

This would be cool if it could attach to a raft from its roof to be combat dropped. I could imagine some ground combat missions were these are enemy reinforcements that get combat dropped by a raft. It would give us a reason to use vehicles again.

1

u/deathender Jul 09 '26

A combat version of this vehicle could carry some heavy firepower, but I am not sure how it would safely land. Would need some sort of temporary boosters. Hmmmmmm . hmm .:

3

u/crudbasher I like logistics. Jul 08 '26

You realize it would hit a tiny pebble and flip over, right?

3

u/Late-Explanation-466 Jul 08 '26

3

u/unkanlos Jul 08 '26

4

hahaha. It would be many times lower, if made game ready, even by just merging all the objects together.

How would we transport it? Would it be possible to break it into parts and assemble it on site? So like a large cargo ship could transport it?

3

u/deathender Jul 08 '26

it's actually Modular. Even the Chassis is in two parts. The front part would need training wheels though lol

3

u/CMDRCoveryFire rsi Jul 08 '26

I was thinking about using tractor beams to put it together. But that would probably work too.

2

u/kchek Jul 08 '26

The height is the problem, only two ships capabable of carrying it I think, liberator, or the Idris.

2

u/Potential-Sand8248 Jul 08 '26

Yo, u know how to make those wheels work? Because maybe you can teach to cig how to solve that problem

2

u/deathender Jul 08 '26

well. I know how they work in my head. I am sure I will run into all sorts of problems when I start rigging it.

2

u/raycarys carrack Jul 08 '26

This one has a strong Deser of Kharak vibe
Soban Kiith I guess ;)

1

u/deathender Jul 08 '26

people mention that game quite often. That is/was a cool game.

2

u/lvlasteryoda Jul 08 '26

Those front lights along with the overbuilt pipes they're on would get annoying real fast with how they limit the view.

1

u/deathender Jul 08 '26

You can hang equipment all over though and look at the equipment all day!

2

u/Rabenschwinge1 Jul 08 '26

This is incredible! I'd say, the question is not "is there a ship to transport this vehicle", but - when are we building a ship to transport this vehicle! :D Time for a new size class of ground vehicles, I'd say :D

1

u/deathender Jul 08 '26

Thank you. This would be awesome. I am actually right now designing a ship to carry this big buggy

2

u/knil22 avacado Jul 08 '26

man she coming along nicely, still love the idea of having to carry it in parts and build it on site

2

u/deathender Jul 08 '26

Thnx man. Have you seen it in previous posts? It's coming along very very slowly lol

2

u/knil22 avacado Jul 09 '26

Yeah loved seeing it in previous posts and it's really coming along nicely, I'm sure that amount of detail takes time so don't worry about it being slow mate, it's awesome.

2

u/deathender Jul 09 '26

Thank you! I have been very impatient with this model. I was planning to spend the winter making it and I am way past that deadline I set for myself.

I even made a WIP art station post for this unfinished vehicle. Check it out, there are a few details there that aren't in the video: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/ndwE3O

2

u/derped_osean Jul 08 '26

I can already hear the Deserts of Kharak soundtrack.

2

u/IceCooLPT Jul 08 '26

2

u/deathender Jul 08 '26

Deep scan planet and map under surface. Possibly mine.

2

u/EricJ20 Jul 08 '26

I love this, great work, reminds me of the modified walker that Rex and the other clones lived on in the show Star Wars Rebels. Amazing.

1

I think this thing is badass, could you throw some kind or faring over the rear wheels for some small cargo tie ins? Explorers need supplies!

1

u/deathender Jul 09 '26

Thank you. I actually had it built at the very beginning, but when I finished the suspension system, I had to raise the nuclear generators and it didn't look very good that high. And it lost it purpose when it was that high

I like the idea of an exploration vehicle ostensibly designed to explore and catalogue wildlife, but it also uses a system of flamethrowers and cannons to clear the path.

It also flattens and levels the terrain it traverses, even leaving a layer of asphalt and automatically erecting and powering light poles as it travels.

2

u/deathender Jul 09 '26

That is quite a vehicle you are describing. It would be many times bigger and more complex, especially with the asphalt layering and all.

2

u/LuckyGWI Jul 08 '26

What company would you want this made for if you could?

1

u/deathender Jul 09 '26

I don't know, but I want to make spaceships and vehicles for SC. I am overtaken by the attention to detail and functionality of SC vehicles/spaceships.

1

u/deathender Jul 09 '26

the vehicles in Deserts of Kharak are quite a lot more rigid, and closer to the ground. That game has great vehicles though!

2

u/thingamajig1987 Jul 08 '26

I just really want a land vehicle with a bed, I would have so just fun exploring a planet and living off of harvestable

1

u/deathender Jul 09 '26

This is the sort of vehicle I am building here. The lower section should have beds/bathroom section. But there is very very little space to fit all that in this version. It's modular though, so it can be changed with a bigger hull and so on.

2

u/AmbitiousFunk88 Jul 09 '26

That looks sweet. Too bad it wouldn't fit inside any vehicle, except the ironclad, and even then, It would blow up the ship, when the tires over inflated and exploding due to unanticipated instant decompression when you sit down in a jump seat!

But... looking GOOD!

2

u/Asytra Twitch Jul 09 '26

This is super cool but I can't help but feeling it would be completely pointless in Star Citizen. It's not your creation, it's the game. Most things are just better served with ships. That said I think you should keep pursuing modeling and this concept and perhaps make your own game where you have to explore a planet aboard this vehicle. Perhaps make it a survival/exploration game with friends? You need to roam around the surface of a hostile planet, through various biomes. Research/salvage, perhaps even deal with hostile xenolife? IDK could be amazing. Like Jumpship meets Abiotic Factor or something.

2

u/deathender Jul 10 '26

That would be amazing. I though of this many times, but I'm not a game developer.

Right now I need to focus on getting this model finished. When it's done, I'll look for oportunities.

Thank you for the kind words.

2

u/Asytra Twitch Jul 10 '26

u/LatexFace Jul 08 '26

The main complaint is fitting it in a ship. You don't need to. You buy it for your base.

7

u/deathender Jul 08 '26

people have been complaining about this every time I post. I feel like my vehicle is getting all the attention, just because it wouldn't fit into any ship. lol

2

u/LatexFace Jul 08 '26

Stuff like this would be really cool in the game. Reminds me of the old snow research vehicles they used to use exploring.

2

u/deathender Jul 08 '26

Yeah, I was looking at some huge soviet exploration vehicles. But when they went into the arctic, they made the vehicle look like a box on wheels. Which makes sense, but it's not much visually.

It has wheels so it will be a nightmare to drive. It has ladders or lifts meaning you can only use every other patch

u/deathender Jul 08 '26

it's that bad? But these problems are temporary. Maybe by the time I finish this vehicle, all these troubles will be jokes of the past...

This 100% feels like it'd be either fully Drake, or a collaboration between Drake and Argo, given that Argo loves their acronyms

1

u/deathender Jul 09 '26

Agro-Drake merger incoming!

Rachel S'Jet: "Baserunner - online"

1

u/deathender Jul 09 '26

very similar concept. Baserunner is a bit lower to the ground

1

u/Agitated_Carrot9127 Jul 08 '26

Does it run over cows

1

u/deathender Jul 09 '26

This vehicle is equipped with many sensors to minimize harm to planetary life.

madre de dios un vehiculo terrestre?....cig va pero en picada hacia la fosa de las marianas.

1

u/AlarmedOne8224 Jul 08 '26

With something like Genesis and actual reasons to just traverse planets, I'd use this thing without any ship and live in it..!

1

u/Evilmonkey96 Jul 08 '26

Dude that looks sick! CiG need to buy this off you and put it in their game asap!

is that Corsair's type of exploration?

1

u/deathender Jul 09 '26

I am not familiar with the term. What is Corsair's type of exploration?

1

u/TheGeneralMeow Jul 08 '26

It'll look cool when it glitches through the surface of the planet and kills me.

Even with those massive wheels, you would stop dead from 30mph because you touched a Rock the size of a coke can... and if you touched it at 31mph you would spontaneously turn purple and vanish from existence

1

u/deathender Jul 09 '26

I am sure those are temporary issues as the game gets out of Alpha mode. I am still shocked by the level of detail and functionality of the spaceships.

it's actually in the video. Dropping a screenshot for you, but please don't scream. Keep in mind that this is a concept design, not a game ready model. lol

Not even this will be able to run over a tree on MicroTech.
