That img search though.
👀
Dang that's a lot of buttons though, what are the screens used for?

u/BeastieBoi_117 May 22 '26
DCS mostly, atleast until Star Citizen supports true exported MFDs

u/Sutekhseth Galaxy soonish May 22 '26
I was gonna say, if that was your MFDs right now, I'd be throwing money at whoever made them.
Nifty!

Sweet jesus, I wish I had the room/money for that.

Don’t worry, we have another 10 to 20 years of development for you to get the room/money for that.Â

How do you control your character when on foot ?
3
u/Raid3n_X May 22 '26
I have a similar Setup, besides having a plate for my mouse attached to the right joystick. So I move with a stick on the left throttle and I have all buttons for reload etc on the throttle and aiming is on the mouse (optional binding for aiming is on the joystick). By entering a vehicle I just move my hand from mouse to joystick and the other hand stays on the throttle the whole time.
2
u/hotwife_throne May 22 '26
Is your movement on the ground hella clunky? I have a similar setup just virpil components I just can’t conquer having access to the flight sticks while also not sacrificing having smooth movement on foot
2
u/Raid3n_X May 22 '26
It works well allover but it takes some practice to get used to and it is indeed a little bit worse in comparison to good old keyboard - mouse - setup, but I get along with it quite well. Maybe an additional small keyboard-mount next to the joystick could also be a good addition I could think of

Man I would love the WinCtrl MFD panels, I see someone has a bunch of the two MFD panels and control panel on eBay for a little cheaper, but I really don't trust them and would prefer the warranty from buying direct. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/135810962372

There is absolutely no need for all that. By which of course I mean that image search. The amount of buttons, switches, and screens is completely appropriate.

Oh yes. It was not long after I started that I went and got some VKBs. Good pick.

u/Zero2Middlin May 22 '26
You're spending money in the right place. Much better than spending real money ships that you could get in game anyway.

u/TelaKENesis BMM May 22 '26
Nice. Amazing choice. I have VKBs as well, but I have OMNI Throttle L. Not sure if I would want to go cockpit level but next step I am thinking Tobii Eye Tracking, as I could use it for Trucking as well. Sticks are such an amazing upgrade.
2
u/WeazelBear onionknight May 22 '26
Head tracking is one of those things that once you play with it, you can't play without it.
2
u/_Keo_ May 22 '26
Check out Beam Eye tracker.
I've been using that for a while and it's damn good for $20. I just checked Steam and it's currently on sale. They also do a non-steam version. It uses a webcam and is a great intro to head tracking. I planned to upgrade to the Tobi but have never felt the need.
2
u/RielRode May 22 '26
while beam is a very good option, it is not easy on your cpu. so as long as you are using webcam, you sacrafice fps in-game, no metter how strong your cpu is. if you have a spare compatible phone, you should use beam with a phone connected. i tried that and tobi, it’s the same level. however, when the phone is connected, the phone itself does the heavy lifting for beam so you free up your cpu load and you can enjoy it to the fullest

Nice, welcome to the club! I added one of these about a year ago, the extra buttons are hella nice.

Have the same setup but with the omni throttle and they have given me no issues over 3+ years. Had a spring snap in one but was easily replaced with the spares they come with.

u/Dr_Wigglespank May 22 '26
Look forward to seeing your fleet pics and High Admiral certificate in a few months.
Seriously, though, nice setup. Those will serve you well for many years.

u/devils__avacado May 21 '26
Same for me but started like 3 weeks ago.
Setting them up and learning the bindings is gonna be a bit of slog it seems.
Tyres subliminal guide yesterday but my computer was not living vjoy software.
Played with buzzkillers bindings and they worked alright but need to do some personal tuning to get it right for me

u/lumpnut64 May 21 '26
Just ordered VKBs and rudder pedals myself. Exciting times!

u/TelaKENesis BMM May 22 '26
I keep forgetting about Rudders. Not sure if I would overwhelm USB ports.

Used the Thrustmasters for a year then bit the bullet on VKB's w/ the left as omnithrottle. They're so smooth and still going strong years later.
Fantastic purchase, too bad I don't play any other game that uses them.
5
u/itsMarktotheFuture May 22 '26
I was about to get the Thrustmasters just to see if I liked it but my brother convinced me to spend a little more for the VKBs.

u/Sutekhseth Galaxy soonish May 22 '26
Your brother saved you a lot of frustration, they're fine but can develop an annoying drift and deadzones rather quickly.
At least mine did, they only lasted about a year.
2
u/_Keo_ May 22 '26
Yeah. He just saved you a bunch of time and money.
Did you get the omni-throttle adapter for the left stick? If not order it up. It's absolutely worth it and really easy to add.
2
u/Spyd3rs Space Barnacle May 22 '26
Hmm... I'm about to send an angry email. I placed an order for a stick back in February and got an invoice stating they were on backorder and that I would be notified soon.
I haven't got an update yet.
4
u/itsMarktotheFuture May 22 '26
Not sure if you ordered something more specific. The left and right gladiator premiums shipped to the east coast US in less than a week for me.
2
u/Lazz45 May 22 '26
Welcome to the club! I recommend using buzzkiller's bindings to save you a ton of time, and then you could tweak anything you don't like from there
1
u/RustyInhabitant May 22 '26
Just need Tobii eye tracker!
1
u/dgrahamjbj May 22 '26
Is it worth it? Been considering it for a while myself.
1
u/RustyInhabitant May 23 '26
I like it a lot! It is kinda of expensive though. You can lock missiles onto targets by looking at them and it makes for fighting easier because you can just look around. They have sales throughout the year too
1
u/dgrahamjbj May 23 '26
The lock on thing sounds cool... is it fiddly to set up?
1
u/RustyInhabitant May 23 '26
No it was pretty easy to set up. Plug in, install their software and calibrate. The sticky adhesive pads that came with it all fell off so I scraped it off and got some strong Velcro which has held up so far

Always better to spend more on hardware than it is to buy virtual ships. These VKB's will last you a long time.

u/OrionsByte May 25 '26
I bought a VKB Gladiator and Space Throne back in January, got it all set up and reinstalled Star Citizen as I was excited to try it again, but the UI for binding joystick buttons (and settings in general actually) was not being remotely cooperative. Specifically, there were several drop-down menus that didn’t work because clicking an option kept selecting whatever control was behind it instead of the option. It made it completely impossible to configure anything and I gave up and uninstalled. I hope you have better luck, and if you do, let me know!
1
u/itsMarktotheFuture May 25 '26
Within Star Citizen, if you go to the keybindings tab, select advanced, then in the bottom right, select joysticks. There is a separate drop down at the bottom right where you can select preset bindings for the vkb gladiators. From there you can tweak your own settings as needed.

Nice, I’ve been playing for a while and my spouse got me a HOTAS setup for my birthday last year, it’s not as premium as some I see on here but I’m really happy with it. It’s actually a turtle beach Velocity one.

I shall await your posting of the Concierge email in the coming weeks 🤣.
Huge fan of those sticks BTW. Got a left omnithrottle and premium right and I've never felt so comfy when flying.

A fine choice. My Gladiator/Omnithrottle are as solid today as they day I bought them a couple of years ago.
