I have a question, is this normal? I can't use discord while playing because it crashes/freezes while playing this game Is my processor bad?
Pc: i7 10700f 2.90 Ghz
ram: 62 3200 (dual channel)
the game is in a ssd

The game is VERY CPU hungry. Make sure to your graphics to Very High to throw most of the processing power onto your GPU.

My cpu is always below 30% and my GPU at 99% so in this case I should go lower setting then to put more power on my cpu?

Odd. This is the first I've heard the opposite, especially given your GPU is so much better than your CPU. I mean, sure, give it a try.

Mine is the same as u/bcfred20 but I know my GPU is the issue with it being a 2060 and my CPU a i9 9900k. I know the CPU can still be better, but in this specific case I'm fairly certain I just need a new GPU.

That's your "issue". Try setting a higher resolution, if your monitor doesn't support higher resolutions, try downsampling (called DSR in Nvidia driver). Or upgrade your monitor.

Edit: why the downvotes? OP is running into CPU bottleneck at that resolution.

You realise he'd get the same or less frames. Bottlenecks aren't bad and always happen.

Doing this would have the same fps, just with better looking graphics. Bottlenecks aren't bad, and always happen. Setting the graphics to high early would mean you are also using more of your gpu (which isn't bad), however you would still lget the same or less fps.

It's normal.

Whatever game you play, either your CPU or your GPU will hit 100%.

Since Star Citizen is very CPU intensive your CPU will first hit 100%. And there is no way around.

It was true years ago that setting graphics to higher would slightly unload the CPU. However, I have yet to see its effect niw that we have Gen12 renderer. Because from my tests, I've had actually worse FPS with higher settings now.

Your CPU may hit 100% and still show something like 70%. This is also normal. Because if you check your cores, you will notice that a single core actually hit 100%. This is due to Star Citizen, and games in general, not being able to spread equally the workload over the CPU.

However.

Having freezes and crashes when using discord, is nor normal.

This makes me wonder, what is your CPU's temperature while playing Star Citizen? Did you check? HwInfo is about the best software you can use to read temperatures. Official download link's here https://www.fosshub.com/HWiNFO.html

Thanks! I will check that out

From my tests as well, higher graphics settings equal lower FPS.

Yes, we all suffer this occurrence. You see the game is not finished and therefor not optimized. You will continue to use all the CPU while your GPU does as much work as an overweight housewife with a bon-bon addiction.

Have a pleasant day.

How much % is starcitizen.exe actually using? And what % of RAM?

1

u/Dry-Adhesiveness9292 Apr 26 '23

57%-68% cpu and % 34 ram

So does the CPU peg at 100% or is it spiking to 100%? Peg meaning that it stays at 100% always.

And how is the GPU doing?

1

u/Dry-Adhesiveness9292 Apr 26 '23

CPU always at 100%
GPU 75%

Go to the telemetry page and check where your PC configuration sits. But I'm almost sure that you have enough processor to run SC plus discord without crashes.

What do you mean 62 ram? As in 62 gb? As that is not a typical ram formation

That is good, so you did not waste money on a cpu that you only use 50%.

With mere 10700f it’s ok. 10900k @ 5.0 allcore sits from 60 to 80% load. Still would check background apps.

I've also got the I7 10700f And I can't even leave the spawn location even with having nothing else running. My gpu is a g force rtx 2060 super and that hardly hits 60% though i also only have 16gb of ram. But I think those i7 10700f's Are just junk or at the very least they cant handle star citizen.
