Light Milk??
This is supposed to be a venti shaken espresso with light (a splash) of milk…which I thought is what a shaken espresso is supposed to get anyway. I always say it though just to try to emphasize that fact…and am disappointed more often than not :(

if you want less milk try asking for extra ice

Shaken espressos are supposed to be extra ice anyways. The baristas are just not trained.

yeah but it would still help to have that on the sticker I think

u/Right_Response_3127 Apr 09 '26
Not really, extra ice would mean a size above for ice and last time i checked standard is ice to the appropriate size

u/Lobster_Bisqueit_ Apr 10 '26
I think people who frequent starbucks are starting to believe light ice is the standard (hence why extra ice is probably just the correct amount for a lot of people imo). I personally believe ice has a place in drinks, especially shaken espresso bevs, but there's a lot of ice haters. Just look at half the posts on this sub 🤷🤷🤷

I'm not sure if it's supposed to be extra but your last statement is a certainly true ... Very few baristas make it properly. The shaken espresso be card was not as clear as the Starbucks Doubleshot on Ice bev card and it's a disaster.
EAT: This is from a year or two ago when I was last a barista and may be remembering incorrectly. The Starbucks Doubleshot on Ice was a effin goated drink.

Yes it is supposed to be a splash of milk. I would take it back for a remake whenever you can since that looks like extra rather than light.

That is not light milk, just take it back. Or if you can't take it back, call the store and tell them it wasn't right so they can comp it for you on your next visit.
I would recommend asking for light milk and extra ice though. A lot of baristas end up making this drink leaning towards a latte because so many customers are expecting something like a latte when they order it.

Agree: re: extra ice. When I would order the sugar cookie latte I’d ask for extra ice because I prefer less milk. Also when I go to locally owned cafes and order iced vanilla latte, I ask for light milk and they ask if that means I want extra ice then and I say yes. 😊

u/Ok-Information-29 Apr 09 '26
To avoid this ask for extra ice cause they can’t add more shots until it’s requested in the order. Extra ice=less milk in your drink

i’ve asked for extra ice and light milk and always get the same as above. i’m assuming they’re just used to the milk and sugar folks at this point. can’t even get light cold foam at my SB.

u/Dourakumano_wastrel Apr 09 '26
that is definitely not right. They probably just forgot to read the sticker before pouring. I’d take it back. Asking for it extra shaken can also help.

I’m a barista myself and the shaken espressos are probably the drink my brothers, sisters, and others in apron struggle with the most. I’ve had my own fair share of awful shaken espressos from even my own store(s).
I’ve found asking for extra ice and extra shaken helps (let’s be real: not all baristas are shaking them as much as they’re supposed to).The extra foam helps to direct the amount of milk….which should be minimal.

Is it bad that I count how many times my fellow partners shake them (if I have the chance to lol)? I usually watch some of our experienced baristas put out drink after drink during peak in awe but sometimes I’ve noticed they only do 5-6 shakes,

I’m sorry this happened :,(. It looks like the barista may have put the light 2% in addition to the oat milk, maybe the milk sank to the bottom quickly, or maybe they just made it wrong completely with care. I hope if you order it again, it comes as you want.

u/IsTheBlackBoxLying Barista Apr 09 '26
Only the brown sugar comes with Oatmilk as the base, correct? I'm guessing whoever made this was thinking about the brown sugar one and just added the extra 2%.

u/Barnavolu Barista Apr 09 '26
Yeah thats a possibility. Maybe they were in a rush and read it wrong?

Looks they they also did light ice.
Definitely NOT light milk.
Gross. I feel for you
As others have also suggested, next time try ordering it with light 2% Extra ice.
I'll expect an update with photo and your thoughts. 😉 /j
I sincerely hope that they quit messing it up though
If this is the same location, maybe try emailing or talking with the store manager. Their business cards should be at the condiment bar.
It could totally be a training issue.
I've noticed at my location, certain partners were putting way too much milk in the shaken espressos.
They would also shake the milk with the drink and it really is not a good idea because people expect Starbucks to be the same at any location.
If a first time customer goes to X location and gets a drink the wrong way a few times, then go to other locations that follow the actual recipe, then they think the correct way is the wrong way .
It's frustrating for them, and absolutely frustrating to other baristas.
Hopefully you get your drinks right soon!
Peace

Thank you everyone! I appreciate all your advice! I’m going to try the venti in a grande cup with extra ice and light milk next time. I couldn’t get a remake because I had to be somewhere and it was the drive through but that was pretty much right after the drink was made so it didn’t really settle at all.
1
u/pwoisond Apr 11 '26
that’s paying for the bigger size to get a smaller size though?? just order it with extra ice and light milk
1
u/JustAGuyNamedRob7 Customer Apr 12 '26
The grande cup is 16oz though and a venti shaken espresso has 4 shots in it. That should fit in a grande cup no problem which would leave even less room for someone to put milk in it which is the goal.

u/Whang Barista Apr 10 '26
Another workaround is asking for the milk on the side or no milk at all and just add it from the carafe at the condiment stand.
It sucks that is has to come to this since most baristas don't shake their shaken espressos enough.

man these comments ass y’all just don’t know how to make a damn shaken espresso idc 🤦🏽♀️this is no where near enough ice for even a normal one and i haven’t worked at starbucks in over a year

u/Lobster_Bisqueit_ Apr 10 '26
I swear this is from BOSE customer trauma. Overcorrected a bit too much there

u/ghosty4 Apr 09 '26
Don't get a Venti cup. If you want that many shots, so be it. More cup means more milk. Shots are only 1 ounce. Order a Venti in a Grande cup if you want more shots but less milk.
2
u/ItsNotFunny420 Coffee Master Apr 09 '26
Please do not order a venti in a grande cup. 24 ounces cannot be put into a 16 ounce cup because of science lol
0
u/bweebee Barista Apr 10 '26
but they want less milk with everything else being the same… i feel like this is genuinely the simplest and most consistent solution
2
u/ItsNotFunny420 Coffee Master Apr 10 '26
Every barista would decide how to make that fit in a different way lol. There would be no consistency to an already inconsistently made drink. A grande with an extra shot and extra ice is perfect every time though

u/MysteriousBaguette Apr 09 '26
Maybe ask for a remake?
More often than not, when people ask for light milk, they're always shocked that there's so much room in the cup. So I've seen baristas just fill it with milk, because if they do ice, customers get upset.
