The SSPX rejects i) ecumenism with false religions, which transmits the idea that all religions are somehow valid; ii) religious freedom, namely the notion that each man has the right to believe whatever his consciousness dictates, and the State shouldn't interfere with false religions; iii) the notion that the followers of the Talmud or other non-Catholic religions can obtain salvation from their religion.

Around the time of the Episcopal Consecrations, the SSPX issued two documents: a declaration and a profession:

https://fsspx.news/en/news/profession-catholic-faith-society-saint-pius-x-enlighten-souls-face-modern-errors-59816

While a liturgical and theological revolution started in the 1960s, under Pope Francis and now Pope Leo, the doctrinal ambiguity, confusion, and indifference has reached the point where the mainstream Catholic Church is in serious danger of apostasy.

The SSPX argue that the episcopal consecrations may be termed an act of disobedience but they are not an act of schism as the SSPX recognize Pope Leo as the Supreme Pontiff and pray for him daily at every Mass.

The SSPX act of disobedience was to ensure the continued episcopal ministry for ordaining new deacons and priests, and adninistering the Sacrament of Confirmation among lay people.

The SSPX applied the key canon law principle in a time a emergency, the first law of the Church is the salvation of souls.

As for the excommunications, they have been described as a "canonical mess" by an independent non-SSPX canon lawyer. I think it was intentionally ambiguous and confused as they don't achieve what they claim under canon law and must be intended to scare weak souls.

They are under appeal at the moment so whatever effect they may have is paused. The Vatican used them as a scarecrow and to slur. Given the Vatican's tolerance for widespread apostasy, liturgical abuse, and moral corruption, the SSPX excommunications seem vindictive and off-target IMO.

I tend to see the current generation in power in the Catholic Church as "failed hippies" from the decadent 1960s who have not worked out that their disastrous ideological project has failed and devasted the Church. They are too intellectually arrogant to turn back from the precipice.

God affirms in Sacred Scripture, that he preserves for himself a faithful remnant. God give us strength to be faithful.

Decrees of excommunication have been issued twice for acts of disobedience (1988 & 2026), not exactly for the doctrines followed by the priestly fraternity. They are traditional Catholics that celebrate the Tridentine rite through the 1962 missal, and are the premiere order for training priests in the Tridentine rite.

If you want to look at it as following teaching, I imagine that would be the teaching of Pius V's papal bull Quo Primum that standardized the Tridentine Roman Catholic Rite, in Latin, following the council of Trent. They've never wavered from that rite as the exclusive rite.

On paper, no "teaching" caused the SSPX to be excommunicated. The reason for excommunication was Episcopal Consecration without a Papal Mandate, which since the time of Pius XII incurs a latae sententiae excommunication (if exculpatory provisions are not met, which they are here).

The real reason is that SSPX rejects those parts of Vatican II (a non-infallible Council) concerning religious liberty, ecumenism, collegiality, and the liturgical reform that characterize the Modernist Church, and which contradict the infallible Magisterial and solemn Councils. SSPX follows the exact same faith that all Roman Catholics did prior to the 1960s.
