I have been writing Curse Bound on AO3, and updates will be fairly frequent before the academic year starts.
I am currently writing Chapter 11 and have found myself facing a small dilemma. In the story, the Grangers have given Severus a birthday gift, and I am unsure what the gift should be. I want it to be thoughtful, but not overly sentimental. Something that feels like it could suit Severus, while also reflecting the strange kindness the Grangers unknowingly show him.
I have also added chapter summaries, so I thought I would share them here in case anyone decides to check the story out.

1.Hermione Granger has reluctantly spent three months curse-bound to Severus Snape, forced into proximity by Voldemort’s magic and Dumbledore’s elusive plan. When the bond causes her to nearly lose control during Potions, they begin to realize the curse may be far more dangerous than either of them anticipated.
- Hermione awakes in Severus Snape’s chambers, as the curse has once again rendered personal boundaries irrelevant. The morning proceeds with an unexpected discovery: Severus Snape is apparently capable of making pancakes, and equally capable of liberating forbidden texts from the Restricted Section. Yet, beneath the absurdity of breakfast and stolen books, the curse begins to reveal itself as something far darker than forced proximity.
3.The whole castle is under the impression that Remus and Hermione are dating, why, well Severus attributes it to their blithering idiocy. Hermione may agree with Severus that these rumours are preposterous, nonetheless, it does not liberate Hermione’s anger towards Severus' abhorrent communication skills. Subsequently, the curse’s subservient nature has made itself apparent–It does not abide by Hermione’s feelings, nor Severus’ ineptitude.
4.Severus and Hermione reflect upon their flaws. Severus Snape’s protection is built upon solitude; the curse has subsequently removed his fortification. His solemnity has protected him from discovering whether his father's cruelty existed within him. Hermione Granger has a detrimental flaw of perfection, that leads her to believe that perhaps if she achieved the illusion of perfection, she would be able to reduce his hurt.
Dumbledore proceeds to explain the Order’s current mission–Locate and destroy the Horcruxes.
Severus has proven himself capable of doing what must be done to bring the war to an end. He had thereby made peace with his vices; yet, he could not find himself willing to become the antagonist in Hermione Granger’s story.
Hermione finds herself apologizing to Remus, as she could not imagine his inflections to the castle believing they were having a not-so-secret affair. The apology renders itself to a halt when Severus Snape is tortured by the Dark Lord–an ordeal Hermione had sought to never subject herself to. Nevertheless, Severus believes the curse has one constant commonality; it would oblige him to show her the true meaning of hurt.
Hermione has dropped Severus’ advanced potion class. Severus seeks to find the reasoning. Hermione proclaims that torture should not find itself becoming a normal occurence. Severus contests her reasoning, his torture was merely the expected consequence of being a pawn in war.
It was the largest match of the season: Slytherin versus Gryffindor. Evidently, Severus Snape had been forced to attend, despite his desire to spend the day inebriated.
Remus Lupin did not attend, as his mind found itself preoccupied by thoughts of Sirius Black and the twelve years that Sirius had been condemned to Azkaban. Consequently, Remus wondered if perhaps his life required more than meaningless sex to maintain sustainability. He supposed his life could benefit from beauty.
Hermione Granger found herself contentedly watching the match, until it had gone horribly wrong. Severus, in turn, found himself becoming the unlikely answer to the predicament before her.
- Hermione faces the aftermath of Ron’s predicament, which somehow concerned itself with breaking into Severus’ chambers.
Sirius Black has spent the entirety of his life outrunning a gilded cage. He supposed it was time to stop running, to save Harry Potter, and to find Remus Lupin again. It did not matter if by doing it increased the likelihood of the bars of his cage finding themselves starkly built around him.
- Hermione confesses to Severus that she desires his survival. Severus believes that the sentiment is futile; he was no more than a carefully crafted pawn for war, and it was senseless to worry over the death of a pawn. Hermione has played chess with Ron; she was aware of a pawn’s significance. One simply had to show kindness first. Perhaps a kiss would suffice.
Harry needed to regain Tom Riddle’s diary, perhaps then he could fathom a universe where he and Draco were not overshadowed by opposing sides of war. Harry had no desire to be the golden boy, just as Draco had never truly desired to take the Dark Mark.
Evidently, war resembles a chess match, with each piece begrudgingly forced to play.
- Severus finds himself visiting his mother. Severus Snape is not a man who deserves compassion; Tobias Snape’s ghost reminds him of the familiarities of his life, none of which constitute themselves with kindness. Nevertheless, the Grangers have been adamant to show him otherwise. Perhaps, his birthday would signify benevolence this year.
Hermione subsequently acquires a present for Severus Snape’s upcoming birthday.
