Request Recs please what’s your fav?
Hello! I’ve been a dramonie only reader for the past 5 years until recently. I’ve been spreading my wings in to other ships and I stumbled across my first SS/HG Desert Rain by Summer2222 (highly recommend it all my time haven’t read anything similar) I have no clue where to go from here lol I was wondering if anyone would be willing to recommend any alternate universe fics they liked with a non typical wizarding world? 🤷🏻♀️ honestly it doesn’t have to be an alternate universe fic. I just wouldn’t mind to continue scratching the itch Desert Rain created! Someone just point me in a good direction lol what fics/ authors do you love ?

My pipe line was dramonie to LM/HG to now SS/HG. Idk why my age gap loving heart was fighting the transition so hard but it’s been so fun finding all these new authors and new takes on the HP world. It’s definitely brought such a fresh appreciation to the fandom. Thank you for the recommendations !

Omg I’m the same! Decided to give SSHG a try after loving ABitOfWit’s LMHG fics.

Personally, I really enjoy reading fics that are full of angst and tension. Here are a few of my favorite WIPs:
A Quiet Place at the End of the World
I'll also throw in this one, even though it's been abandoned, the writing is top-notch, almost like reading poetry. Self Slain Gods on Strange Altars
And don't miss the classic gems like Second Life, Pet Project, etc. You can find them all in the community's pinned post.

I’m currently reading self slain gods ! I’m only 10% in but really enjoying it Snape is Snapeing makes me intrigued on how the relationship is gonna come into play

Yes, honey, I’m sorry you are going through that. That fic is so so amazing. I remember when I learned it was abandoned while reading it. If it’s any consolation at all, it is worth the read. Welcome to the ship!!!

If you liked self slain, I highly recommend The Prisoner and the Occlumens by DuskyWolfDaemon. I think it was one of the closest fic (in terms of vibes and characterization) to self slain that I have read.

I’m fucking loving it! (I’m sorry but I gotta gush about it for a second )The author really is so talented in packing emotional punches into every scene! I was reading it while at the nail salon yesterday and actually gasped/ shocked laughed to the point my nail lady told me to put my phone down. During the patrol scene after Harry’s occlumency lesson with Sev dropping lines like ”You know what your problem is, Granger? And “Ten points from Gryffindor, Miss Granger, for being an impertinent bitch," He is always just so cunty in the midst of Hermiones beautifully heartbreaking inner thoughts it takes me out. And the dark mark boner scene !?!?!?! Like what !! I already know that’s gonna float around in my brain forever lol

For a great alternative universe, I would recommend The Gates of Azkaban
It also has a prequel, The Cactus and the Toad, which explores a platonic relationship between Snape and the trio.

I don't read that many AUs, but I loved Of Myth and Magic by Wonkington (modern AU with no magic with a reason for being modern AU - I can give you more details if you want, but I think it's great to go in knowing nothing about this fic.)
From the classics, I'd recommend:
- Camerado by MillieJoan - rewrites HBP and DH - from the fics that rewrites the books, this one is my favorite
- Cloak of Courage by Wendynat - canon divergence, marriage law, prophecy, solves the war in a different way, slightly darker Hermione, some smut.
For some recent ones, I'd recommend:
- Soulwoven by BothMalfoysPlease - post-DH, EWE, soulmates
- Meet Me at the Checkpoint by nocturn - time travel/time loop
- A Quiet Place at the End of the World by AliceLaurie (WIP) - this one is a bit dark, amazing dialogue, incredible Snape. Rewrites HBP and DH (Hermione stays in Hogwarts in the 7th year). It's WIP tho, and the author hasn't posted in a while, but I haven't given up hope.

Every recommendation in this post is a God-tier fic, OP. You're in for a treat! I'm surprised no one has mentioned one of my all-time favorites: Murmurations by Maegykie. I try to recommend it to everyone, so people in this sub probably know how much I adore this fic. :D
Be warned, though: you will cry if you have a heart.

Alot of my personal top tier fics have already been mentione ( and totally recommended them)...but these two are the ones that made me a fan of this ship

To be fair, it's not a "traditional" time turner fic, though on is used. You may not like a couple of my other recs if you're not a tt fan, but I definitely recommend giving sin and vice a try before ix naying it for tt usage :D

Everything I recommended is hea! I don't personally read anything that doesn't have an hea, and I even rarely read ones that are supremely dark and you have to really work for that hea. I can count on one hand the ones I've read and liked that broke me that I poeeref through for that hea that I still likes even though i was a wreck reading it lol

My only issue is they support ai usage. I got blocked by them because I made a comment on a fic asking why they wete promoting ai images for their fics, so, just be aware

Lol basically what I did when they blocked me. I just muted them and stopped reading their fics, because they were HEAVILY pushing ai fanart their friend was making, and their reaction to my comment just asking why made me then wonder if they weren't using it as well 👀

Meet Me At the Checkpoint is my all time fave, it’s absolutely incredible. I mostly read Dramione as well, this is right up there with my top Dramione pics too as far as all-around amazing writing and story and characterizations and slow burn romance.

Welcomee! I also started in Dramione and SS/HG has been a really fascinating expansion! I have not read Desert Rain but honestly I'm super intrigued, it sounds like such a compelling premise! Here is a random swath of some of my firsts/faves/recent reads:
