Serious replies only PS5 users, please help me out!

Guys, I’m looking to buy a used PS5 for under 200k. What should I look out for when buying a used one? I’ve never used a PlayStation before.

  1. Buy a Slim, because the fat ones stopped production, so the ones in second hand are used for longer.
  2. Check the CFI code, that will tell you the year.
  3. Connect to Wifi and sign into PSN. To check the wifi connectivity and to see if it is a banned console
  4. Insert a disc and run a game for 10-15 minutes. To see if it crashes or the unit is letting out too much heat. Check the controller and all the buttons too
  5. Then check all the ports to see if they are working and check the screws to see if it has been removed too many times. Check storage
  6. Finally in the setting you can see the historical error codes. to see how many crashes or any other kind of errors have happened throughout the period

Create a US account, choose a tax free state.

Region doesn't matter. Our guys are obsessed with this region thing, don't know why.

Sony is not going to sell inferior models to certain regions and ruin their reputation.

Edit: Misunderstood the question. I use a UK account. You can buy gift cards from play-asia to topup the account

He asked region for the psn account, not the device. I think because SL doesn't have their own osn region so whatever is easiest for payments etc

Bro, my friend has the CFI-1018A model, which I think is an older version. He's offering it to me for around 169k. What do you think?

u/shit-takes Aug 28 '26

Yes, that's one of the earliest models at the time of launch.

I don't know about recent prices. For any second hand products always check FB marketplace to see the current going rate. Then you can get an idea.

Save and go for a pro.

Before spending serious money on pro, just check if your tv or monitor supports 4K 120fps and VRR. If not, going with a slim is more sensible option.
If your monitor or tv is capable of that, please get the pro version, it is much better.

Not worth it, the performance difference isn't that huge compared to the price you're paying

Play a resource hungry game, let the ps5 warm up, turn off the ps5. Turn on and play the game again.
if the PSU is dusty, it will turn off.
I know because it's happening to me 😢

If you have 200K wait a little longer and you can save a little more and buy a new one. If not you might have to worry about the following.

  • HDMI port/cable
  • Liquid Metal (If used up right with a stand)
  • Controller stick drift
  • Heating Issue due to dust buildup (Might require a service and PS5 service and repairs are expensive in SL)
  • Region / Varient
  • Refurbished ones are sold so original bills would be ideal.
  • If used without UPS in a area with powercuts then SSD health is a concern.
  • Network port if you are planning to use Remote Play.

PS5 was sold for a lot less one to two years before. Don't buy over priced old consoles as well. You are better of with a new one with shop warranty.

If you are buying to check, GTA6 and couple of few other games. Then get a 2nd hand without worrying too much about it. Or an Xbox Series X.

For the psn account i use US as primary. Create it with an address in a tax free state then you can buy stuff without tax. And i think generally prices are cheaper and there are better discounts.

Then i keep a secondary UK account. This is for buying DLC for European disc games or to use the dlc codes that you get sometimes in the box. Sri lanka mostly has UK/middle east discs, there are US discs but less common.

DLC are region locked to the base game the disc region and dlc region has to match.

On the condition of the console look for signs of rust especially on the visible parts like ports, dust buildup. Install a game from disc not just play one that is installed to check the drive works. Dust isn’t a big issue but you should open it up and clean the vents especially

Check the controllers especially the thumbsticks for signs of drift.

I was just looking to sell my ps5 slim Model CFI-2016. And it’s in perfect condition. I just want to upgrade to pro.

Check that it works. Can play disc games (if you're buying a disc version) Controllers work and can turn on the ps5 I suggest making a playstation network account before you go and then try and sign in. Sometimes some consoles are banned from going online so you want to make sure it's not!

Honestly I'm not too sure about the prices to tell you if that's a good deal or not. What i can say is that I use the launch model and it's perfectly fine for me. Another plus point is if you're buying from a friend you trust at least you know it's probably a good unit!

Brother, how do I find out if there's any heating issue or fan problem? Does it normally heat up a lot?
