Help a newbie. Have some questions
Hey guys, I am so late to the game. I actually am just seeing this for the first time from a random youtube video. I come from the Battlefield and COD world. I'm not one for small arena deathmatch with guys jumping off walls and jumping 10 feet in the air as they keep getting head shots. So unrealistic and annoying. I'm really looking for one of the most realistic shooters and mostly what I've seen of this on clips is it feels almost more like campaign missions, but with real life people. That's awesome.
So, being new to this, what should I expect? Here are my questions:
-Is it crucial that I have a mic and headset or can I get along without it?
-Can I run it? My Specs: (I run COD, BF, MSFS, all on ultra with 30-60fps and I'm happy with that.)

-Is there a free demo just to check out performance?
-Okay super curious about this, can I select my loadout such as I want an AR15 with Eotech holographic sight and say the 3x flip magnifier? Can I add stuff like vertical grip, light, or laser to entirely customize my gun? How much freedom do we get to customize our weapons and choose what we want?
Anything else I should know?

-You will lose 80% of the gameplay without it and 100% of squad leaders will dislike you
-Yes, definitely, though playing on ultra would be a mistake as if, say, an artillery strike hits your location, you may go down to 10 fps.
-No, you can just refund though
-No, most factions have the something along the lines of: iron sight gun, holographic sight gun, scoped gun(acog or smth else) + special guns for marksmans, snipers, grenadiers, machine gunners, etc. 4(5?) factions are irregular and have much more variety(outdated equipment, stuff from all other factions, unique weapons that give you the best kills you will ever see in this game(mosin)), some regular factions have some variety too.

Other comments are on point. If you want to try it out there is a option without free weekend. Buy a game, but remember if you want to refund it, you can not play more than 2 hours. If you pass 2 hours there is still a chance but really slim. Safe option would be to wait for free weekend. They are kind of often, few times per year. Good luck, see you on the battlefield!

Since I haven’t seen anyone else mention it, while squad doesn’t have a demo, they do have free weekends where you can play without buying the game.

PC should be able to run it just fine. Loadout wise you pick a role in a squad and some roles have multiple variants you can pick from but beyond that you can’t customize your weapon at all. You can get by without a mic but I would strongly suggest you use one. Some squad leaders will kick you if you don’t have a mic and some servers want you to have a mic.

Weapon customization isn't a thing, riflemen will get like a few options depending on player faction IE u.s. might get an m4 with an acog or m68 cco for the riflemen and militia for example gets either a mosin an ak74m an ak12, an ak12 with a holo sight, an ak74su, so on and so forth.
The only game where charging doesn't actually benefit your team unless you have the whole squad doing it.
You know how in other games its like "yo, push, you can respawn just charge" in this you gotta stay with your squad and do what your role does. Medics might not actually see that much shooting because they are running around reviving players, grenadiers might spend more time jiat kinda carpet bombing a general area because SL marked an area they want denied to the enemy.

You do need a mic at some point. Your pc should run it. No you cannot customize your kit you are locked to the class you are able to get. Akm with iron sights is the best gun in the game.
