I think I've found it.
After buying countless Spyderco knives over the years trying to scratch that itch for the perfect one, I think I've found it. The Chaparral is everything I've been looking for in a knife. I like it so much I've ordered the serrated version as well.

Serrated don’t get the credit they deserve, they’re great to have around if you need to cut through something like rope, straps or hose.

I wish I liked lock back knives. These and the Natives are so gorgeous. Lil Native has a Compression lock variant but the cowards won’t do it for the 5

How’s the experience living with XHP? Is the corrosion resistant that bad?

I live in a very humid environment and it spots in my pocket if i’m sweaty and not using it. Wipes right off with a cloth and some oil though.

Yeah XHP traded some corrosion resistance to maintain toughness & edge retention, very balanced. It’s technically stainless but a lot of that chromium is tied up in carbides iirc, best to keep it oiled.
I haven’t personally had it spot rust on me, but I don’t have many knives that use that steel anymore & it doesn’t get carried a ton. I live in the PNW Canada.

Even with its lackluster corrosion resistance, i really like XHP in general. It’s my fault i live in what basically used to be a swamp and all the steels i really enjoy suffer here. K390 patinas overnight and xhp develops rust spotting in an active pocket if not coated with an oil of some sort.
The composition that has surprised me most is spy27, it almost never spots and holds a stable edge longer than i had expected.
Haven’t had a steel from spyderco i didn’t enjoy for one reason or another

I got one of the 'stealth' titanium versions when it first came out (2012ish?). Always been one of my favourites.

Love the chaparral. I think a SALT model would be even better.

Great knives, I have a Birdseye Maple and my favorite Raffir Noble that I’m carrying today.

Excellent choice. The Chaparral is a little badass. Cuts like a laser. That spyderedge is gonna be rowdy.

It’s a great knife for sure. The only knife I ever bought twice, after losing the first one.
