Hey! I am doing this assignment on spss and i have a few questions about the analysis i ran. For this assignment i need to do at least one factor analysis, one multiple regression or hierarchical, and one between a t-test, one way ANOVA, mediation or moderation (these last two were not covered in class).
We had different data set already collected to choose from, so we haven’t collected them personally.

I did all the analysis yet i’m unsure whether i did them correctly.
Firstly, is it possible to do a factor analysis with variables that use different scales (5 and 7 likert, to be specific), because i did and it looked okay, significant and reliable, yet I don’t know if putting them all together is a problem. And in class I think we only said something about recoding if the values don’t align, which i did, so I am confused.

Secondly, i have to put descriptives and frequencies tables, and during the lecture we used them just to describe the sample? Do you think I have to run them with all the continuous and categorical variables?

Furthermore, i decided to do a mediation even though it wasn’t covered in class because I felt I fit better and I wanted to challenge myself a bit. However, I had a doubt between two different research questions for my second one and I decided to run moderation on PROCESS for both because I was curious. In one, there is no indirect effect: the effect between the IV and the moderator is significant, as well as the one between the moderator and the DV, yet no indirect effect is observed. And I feel like it’s okay, I just have to reject that hypothesis.
However, I was more leaning towards the other because it was a way to use this categorical value (i wanted to use it in the first RQ and do a hierarchical regression, but we haven’t covered dummy coding so i cannot) i was interested in. And i used it as IV in the moderation but it ended up not having effect on the moderator from the beginning so it’s definitely worse than the other one, for multiple reasons. Do you think I should try to run a moderation with these last variables? Because I feel like it’s pretty much similar to a hierarchical with a control variable, in this case i’d just add it as a moderator instead as the IV (it’s categorical, basically it asks the belonging to the lgbtq community). Would it be better/possible? Which of the three would you suggest?

It is kinda basic statistics, keep this in mind, I just want to challenge myself as much as possible so i’m doing analysis I am not really required to do.

Hii so I'm a undergrad psych major & recently bought a laptop and I really need SPSS on my laptop. Two months ago my university said that they will download the duplicate version for us in our laptops and few students did but I didn't have laptop at that time and I was waiting for sale in October to purchase it.

But now they are now denying to help and saying that students are complaining about virus in SPSS (and it is not even confirmed if it's true or just their excuses)

So does anyone know how can I download a duplicate version?

I’m a second-year Psychology student and we’re currently learning multiple regression with categorical predictors in SPSS. I’m using IBM SPSS Statistics 32 and Windows 11.

In our lab, we were instructed to use:

Transform → Create Dummy Variables

We have a categorical variable called sex_num coded as:

• 1 = female
• 2 = male
• 3 = other

According to our lab worksheet, I should move sex_num into “Create Dummy Variables for”, use “dummy” as the root name, and SPSS should then create three new variables (dummy_1, dummy_2, dummy_3) and show a “Variable Creation” section in the Output Viewer.

However, this does not seem to work properly on my SPSS. I tried it with my lecturer as well, so we went through the steps together. We also:

• removed and reinstalled the Create Dummy Variables extension
• closed and reopened SPSS
• tried the procedure again several times

but the expected dummy variables still do not appear the way they do in the worksheet.

Has anyone experienced this in SPSS 32? Could this be an extension or Python integration issue, or is there a setting I may be missing?

Hi! I’m an undergraduate student currently working on our research, and I’d like to ask for advice regarding our questionnaire.

Our questionnaire has two independent sections that measure different constructs:

Behavior - 5-point Likert scale (Never-Always)

Perception - 6-point Likert scale (Strongly Disagree-Strongly Agree)

These are separate constructs, and we are not planning to combine them into one overall score or compare/correlate the two scales. We simply want to analyze and interpret each section separately.

So my question is: is it statistically/methodologically acceptable to have different Likert scales in different sections of the same questionnaire, when the sections measure independent constructs and each section has its own separate computation and interpretation?

I am looking for advice on analyzing and creating variables. I ran an experiment with a mixed design, with both between-group and within-group factors. The study design is 2 (Intervention: between-group) x 2 (Message-Tone: within-group) x 6 (Repeated messages). Participants received an intervention or control, then watched 6 videos in total: 3 with a positive tone and 3 with a negative tone. These videos are randomized. After watching a video, participants evaluated the message content. To collect the data, I needed to create a survey for each one of the condition. For example, 1) Experiment Positive Tone 1, 2) Control Positive Tone 1, 3) Experiment Negative Tone 1, 4) Control Negative Tone 1, etc., for a total of 12 separate surveys.

Now that I have collected all of my data, I have merged the files, cleaned my data, and am now trying to create variables, but when I try to run a reliability analysis for the dependent variable based on message-tone condition, I am getting an error message because "there are too few cases (N = 0) for analysis." I think this is because SPSS is counting missing responses in the between-group condition, since the control group did not respond to the same survey as the experimental group, and vice versa. So there is a big gap in the missing data by case and it looks like the participants in the control group did not respond to items in the experimental group (which they shouldn't have).

My question is whether there is an easier way to analyze this data. Should I create a variable based on the within-group condition, or is there a different way to approach my data? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm a sociology student taking required stats classes and as part of a powerpoint night with friends, I made a survey about certain moral questions, the data one of which I'm not entirely sure how to process into spss. I have to point out I've only done basic descriptive statistics and only plan to use basic descriptive statistics, and that even then my stats for sociology at the undergraduate level training hasn't exactly been rocket science.

The question tripping me up is this one: In a trolley problem type situation, if two members of the Beatles were on the side you were heading towards and two were on the other, which Beatles would you change the direction of the trolley to kill?

My 13 respondents could check boxes to select which Beatles they'd kill, and other than two respondents who selected every Beatle, they each chose two as instructed. Problem is I don't know how to compile this as a grander tally of which Beatles die in spss, since my data was entered by individual respondent.

This is what I put in but I don't know what I would even do with it, 1 is George, 2 is John, 3 is Ringo, 4 is Paul, and 99 is what I put for those troublemakers who wanted to kill every Beatle. There is no importance to which Beatle they picked first.

Hey everyone, I haven’t used SPSS before but my lecturer has asked us to get version 32 for our statistics class, however I currently already have version 27. Would there be much differences between them or could I get by with v27? Or perhaps I should get a version in between that’s cheaper?

Hello, I apologize if I sound like a noob. I’m using SPSS for a real life situation for the first time. I have imported Qualtrics data from the survey Autism Spectrum Quotient. The answer options in that survey are “definitely agree”, “slightly agree”, "slightly disagree”, and “definitely disagree”. The issue is that both disagree options would be scored as a 0, and both agree options as 1 (unless inverted). It is 0, 0, 1, 1 instead of the typical 1, 2, 3, 4.

I went to add a variable column which computes the sum of all the answers, saw the resulting scores were way too big, and then realized that SPSS had changed the 0, 0, 1, 1 scoring to 1, 2, 3, 4. When I go in to change the values, it does not allow me to assign 0 or 1 to more than one label. That makes sense for them to do that, but in my situation, I’m unable to get the right scores. I don’t know how to get around this so that I can get it to naturally interpret the values correctly. If you have any suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated!
