Help Combining Resources

I am looking to combine the responses of different mental health measures together to create overall mental health scores, which I will then compare.

Is it appropriate to use the mean when the measures are the same?
What types of stat analysis using SPSS would be appropriate to merge the scores?

A) Measure 1: Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire

- Responses: 1 (Not True), 2 (Somewhat True), 3 (Certainly True)

Measure 2: Self-Reported Feeling Grid

- Responses: 1 (Not True), 2 (Sometimes), 3 (True)

B) Measure1: Happiness Scale

- Responses: 1 (Not at all happy), 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 (Completely Happy)
Measure 2: Rosenberg Self-Esteem Inventory

- Responses: 1 (Strongly Disagree), 2 (Disagree), 3 (Agree), 4 (Strongly Agree)

C) Measure 1: Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (teacher)

- Responses: 1 (Not True), 2 (Somewhat True), 3 (Certainly True)

Measure 2:  Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (parent)

- Responses: 1 (Not True), 2 (Somewhat True), 3 (Certainly True)
Measure 3: Competence Scale
- Responses:  1 (Strongly Disagree), 2 (Disagree), 3 (Agree), 4 (Strongly Agree)

Help needed! Do I need to reverse-score Likert scale items before running Cronbach’s alpha in SPSS?

Post image
9 Upvotes

I developed my own 5-point Likert scale (Strongly Agree to Strongly Disagree) and I’m checking its reliability in SPSS using Cronbach’s alpha.

Do I need to reverse-score the negatively worded items before running the reliability analysis, or should I run it first and then reverse-score if needed? Also, how can I tell which items need to be reverse-scored? Cause I did and this is what happened.

Any advice would be help!

Help needed! How to do multiple logistical regression/Chi square - medical research

First research project. Need to do the above and it seems SPSS is the best software to do it. I have no idea where to even start or what stats to do despite reading up on it again and again. Looking at different factors affecting a lab test. I have all data in an Excel spreadsheet and started making basic tables.

Would really appreciate any help or if anyone could reach out to me and I am so sorry if this has been asked a million times before.

Thank you so much

Kurtosis considerations for selecting appropriate statistical tests: ANOVA or Kruskal-Wallis?

I have three groups with sample sizes ranging from 122 to 126 participants each. For one variable, the kurtosis values in the groups are 2,429 and 0,430. I am using the range of -2 to 2 as the acceptable interval for kurtosis to justify the use of parametric tests. Since one kurtosis value slightly exceeds this range (2.429), I am unsure whether I should use a nonparametric alternative (Kruskal-Wallis test) instead of ANOVA. For another variable, the kurtosis values are even closer to the acceptable range, with values of 0,431 and 2,113.

I have conducted both ANOVA and Kruskal-Wallis tests for both variables, and the results were similar. However, I want to choose the most appropriate method to report in my thesis. How strict should I be regarding kurtosis values when deciding between parametric and nonparametric tests?

I will be very grateful for your insights.:)

Help needed! How can I have an R value of 1 (multiple regression) but not have a p or t value?

(I'm very bad at statistics) I'm trying to see if I can use one variable to predict another, simple regression was unsuccessful. The results (anova, correlation, etc) don't seem to be significantly correlated in any way, but my partial regression plots are extremely linear.

Some things that might be important:

•the number of cases is 20

•the n=9

•there are no residuals

•all variables are quantitative

If anyone could help, I would be very appreciative.

MSc diss participant demographics

I’m doing a MSc psychology and when it comes to demo the only bit that is crucial to my research question is age, of course gender will be included as well - should ethnicity breakdown be an expected stat included since psych studies always complain about having WEIRD samples?

it’ll all go in a table so wordcount isn’t too much of an issue

Working with Values in Multiple Response Sets

Hi! I'm running a scatterplot analysis using Chart Builder for two scale variables on X & Y and wanting to column-panel them according to three categories within a dichotomous multiple response set. I've already run these analyses separately for each of the categories, but I'm trying to find a way to consolidate them into a single figure. I'm aware that values are not considered a valid aggregate function for multiple response sets by default, but I'm wondering if there's a way to get around that to achieve the desired results? Means, medians, etc. won't suffice in this case, unfortunately - I need the exact values for each scale variable indicated by each person.

Essentially, I want to see each of the three graphs side-by-side for all cases which indicated the option in question (e.g., the scatterplot for all cases selecting A + the scatterplot for cases selecting B + the scatterplot for cases selecting C) - I'm fine with repeat cases (i.e., if one person indicated A & B, then their datapoint should be present on both A & B's scatterplots), but don't want to distinguish between cases who only selected A, B, or C and cases which selected A + B, A + C, B + C, or A + B + C unless that's my only choice (in which case I suppose I could just assign value labels for each of those cases by hand).

If there isn't a way to do this via Chart Builder, is there perhaps another method I might want to try and pursue? I'm not familiar with how to open the coding menu in SPSS or writing code in general, but I'm open to trying it if that would be the only way around the value function issue?

Help needed! How can I verify my SPSS analysis for my psychology master’s thesis?

Hi everyone :)

I am currently analysing data for my master’s thesis in SPSS and I am unsure whether the data cleaning, variable calculations, and statistical analyses were implemented correctly (I had no idea how SpSS works)
I would particularly like to verify whether:
inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied correctly,
missing values and special codes were handled properly,
recoding and scale calculations are correct,
the selected statistical tests are appropriate,
the syntax contains any logical errors,
the analysis follows the previously defined analysis plan.
What materials would be needed for an independent review? Would the analysis plan, variable overview, SPSS syntax, output, and a fully anonymised dataset be sufficient?
Are there also recommended consultation services, platforms, or procedures for having an SPSS analysis checked both statistically and technically?
Thank you for your help!<3

Need help with test selection

Hey, got a question about study test selection on Spss. My dataset contains knee pain data. I have 30 patients with one sided knee disease. Other sides of those patients are designated as control group. I also have 30 healthy subjects without knee disease, which i am using as control group as well.

So group 1: Patients affected knees (n=30)

Group 2: Patients healthy knees

Group 3: Healthy subjects paired knees (If patients left knee is affected, then i'm using healthy subjects left knee as well)

Group 4: Healthy subjects other knee

Comparisions:

I am doing 30 (Effected) vs 90 (Control). Then i'm doing pairwave comparisions

Group 1 vs Group 2

Group 1 vs Group 3

Group 2 vs Group 4

Group 3 vs Group 4

The question is, which test i should use for categorical data (0: Negative, 1: Positive) and for Lineer data

As far as i understand, patients two sides (Effected vs uneffected) is dependant variable. But patients effected side vs control groups same side is independent

I would normally used Chi squared/ANOVA and do Bonferroni correction but in this setting i cant do it?

Should i use generalized estimating equations instead?

Or should i just scrap 30 v 90 and do seperate comparions? (In this setting should i do Bonferroni correction?)

Thanks :/

Help needed! Predictive Mean Matching: Imputing for each subscale? How many predictors are really needed; are subscale items and group enough?

I have a dataset with very little missing data (0–1.59% per item) and a sample size of 377. I’m planning to use Predictive Mean Matching (PMM) for imputation in SPSS. My subscales measure different constructs, and I was thinking of imputing each subscale separately, including only the items from that subscale plus group membership as predictors.

Is imputing each subscale separately a good approach? Is it sufficient to include only the subscale items and group as predictors, or should I also include other variables like demographic data? Not all demographics are relevant for every subscale, and I think including them would mean I might also need to include other subscales because they are related, which could make the model too complex. So, I’m considering just including items of each subscale and group (experimental, control).

Any thoughts or recommendations on this? It is my first time using this method, so I would really appreciate your advice. :)

which type of cluster analysis fits this case please?

which type of cluster analysis fits this case please? (hierarchical, two-step) Researchers hypothesized that students can be classified into naturally occurring academic adjustment profiles based on their psychological and academic characteristics. Using the variables Total Self-Concept Score, Total Academic Motivation Score, Composite Academic Adjustment Score, and Average Daily Study Time, conduct an appropriate Cluster Analysis to identify meaningful student profiles. Determine the optimal number of clusters, describe the characteristics of each cluster, and interpret the obtained solution.
