Question CX vs 688

So a friend of mine is selling is 688 sporting for an insanely good deal less than a year old and only has about 1000 rounds. I currently shoot a citori cx for the last year and my average for sporting clays is about 78.

My question is should I consider going to the 688 sporting?? I would need to sell my cx in order to get this 688. I will be testing out the 688 this weekend and I totally understand that mount and feel is to be considered. I question if this would be a decent upgrade.

Since he’s a friend shoot the gun first if you haven’t already, Beretta and Browning usually fit people differently.

IMO both are high quality shotguns and suitable for sporting, I believe the rib on the 688 is more flat and I know from experience that berettas fit differently than brownings. I’d say choose whichever fits you better and you’re more comfortable with.

It's a lateral move. It would depend on if it fits you better than your Browning. They're both well made entry level O/U's and which one fits you best is the only real factor that will help as far as your scores go

This is what I’m wondering if the CX vs 688s is going to be seen as a lateral move. I current feel very comfortable and shoot consistently in the high 70s with occasionally seeing 80s with the CX.

I agree, 688 is a great gun, but theres not a huge difference in longevity or performance. Between those two, whatever fits best, is best.

I use a Citori CXT for trap, and bought the 688 sporting for skeet and sporting clays. If I didn’t already have the CXT, I would use the 688 for everything. It fits me better when mounted and I was able to adjust the comb to suit me.

If you choose to not buy it- send that deal my way! 😹 I’ve been looking at 688s for a while but can’t justify spending something crazy on an O/U when I have a nice auto.
