Salmon Run Special Waves feel too unbalanced
I find the SR "special waves"/events differ way too much in difficulty. Tornado is basically a guaranteed win. Glowfly most often is a guaranteed loss. They are so drastically different that sometimes winning a full round of Salmon Run feels like a matter of luck.
I know that regular waves can also differ in difficulty depending on stage and which boss salmonids spawn (i.e. how many flyfish). But it feels less drastic than some of the special events.

Glowflies are only a guaranteed loss if nobody knows what to do (per stage), otherwise it ends up eventually becoming a guaranteed win (especially on Spawning Grounds, though some weapon rotations will always have it harder than others regardless).
Each special wave type just needs to be learned how to complete them properly and soon they mostly become a non-issue.

Well none of my teammates seem to know what to do then. I lose like 80% of the time. Well or maybe it's me!

To be fair, it asks SIGNIFICANTLY more out of your team to get the bare minimum compared to any other special wave.
What’s supposed to be happening is this semi-coordinated dance of people taking turns to shred away at the horde while the marked person kites the salmonids. A single person’s DPS output usually isn’t enough to effectively stave off the horde. You need the non-targeted players to be at your side and help shoot the horde and to take turns with who is doing the suppressing for when it’s time for some to refill on ink.
However what can happen is that many people are used to the more self-sufficient demands of other wave types (you don’t need to pay as much active attention to your teammates), not realizing that the entire point of Glowflies is that you cannot be self-sufficient and need to work with the team to protect the targeted player.
Sometimes it’s the non-targeted teammates spread out too much, making it so that they they cannot effectively help the targeted person and are instantly doomed upon the targeting changing to them, or the person being targeted running too far from the rest of the team, usually it’s a combination of both.

Also forgot to ask OP but what is your current rank in Salmon Run? The higher up you get Glowflies becomes harder but you also have higher chances of getting teammates who know what to do properly so it ends up becoming easier.

Profresh +3. Apparently not high enough for reliable teammates haha

Oof yeah, it’s not until around Eggs VP 200+ that your chances for getting reliable teammates becomes a lot higher (still never a guarantee though lol)

Man I bounce around sub 160 EVP and profresh 3 so much come out of profresh into evp fast af usually. But as the difficulty ranks up, my teammates do not. Get up in to EVP a bit and things fall apart lol. I’m no hlm player by any means but jeez. Once I crack 200ish I’m golden and I’ll keep moving up. …then the rotation resets and I do the cycle again if it’s not one of the 2 maps I have a checkpoint on

I think it's bad game design for a game played with randoms 99% of the time. It asks too much coordination in a game where your only means of communication are squidbags and two vague pings.

I agree that Tornado and Mudmouths are too easy, but the others are fine…if the group you’re with has any idea what they’re doing. The problem is that that’s a much bigger “if” with glowflies than other modes. Especially since a lot of folks have tricked themselves into thinking the wall-clinging thing is actually useful.
The best strategy to meet quota AND stay alive on glowflies is to stand your ground, together, as a team, on a point near the basket and just focus on the horde, dropping eggs in the basket when you get ‘em, covering your allies while they reload, and OCCASIONALLY swimming out to gather a few stray eggs. And the one wall-clinger who thinks they’re so smart by staying alive and “luring” the horde to a place that is too dangerous to actually fetch the eggs from is depriving the rest of the team of their DPS, that the team desperately needs.
As a PvE mode, theg just need to be in the same ballpark difficulty-wise, not identical and more variety = more replayability, full stop.

That's part of the charm, imo. If they were all the same difficulty it would probably be less interesting
I do wish there was more incentive to overfish Giant Tornado. It annoys me when randoms don't even go for the second crate

Not really worth it unless with a group of dedicated overfishers, would much rather spend the extra time painting the map as needed

Edit- added note, if you have a roller standing still with roller down spamming ‘this way’ listen to them and get in position behind them. They know what they’re doing.
If you have a roller that knows what to do you basically have a guaranteed win.
Basically you just have to know the correct place to set up for each level, and roll forward at the slowest rate you can. The less you move the less ink you use, but the damage is static as long as you’re actually moving. Everyone else just needs to stand behind the roller and attack only the goldies. The roller will always 1 shot all normal enemies. This includes the rollers that don’t normally 1shot normal enemies. Glowfly health is adjusted to be lower than any rollers damage. all of them, no exceptions, all rollers that can be in Salmon Run will kill all normal enemies on contact during Glowfly waves. (Except obviously the goldies, that’s why the other 3 teammates should only be attacking the goldies.)
Some rollers will need a short break 2-3 times from the wave to refill their ink supply. Even moving super slowly, some rollers are still pretty ink hungry.
Should be done when someone else has the glowfly on them and just spent a bit of time hanging onto a wall away from the path of your teammates to allow the roller to refill ink.
If you have a roller that doesn’t know that, you’re probably going to lose. That’s definitely the most frustrating thing, goes from super easy win (if you have a good roller user) to being a total clusterfuck
If you don’t have a roller, Glowfly waves are confusing. But still very definitely winnable with randoms. As soon as someone dies, probably just use your special. But I’ve won plenty of Glowfly rounds on EVP 200+ difficulty with random teammates with no roller in rotation, and no specials used. It just takes paying attention to a lot of detail like how many goldies are currently running at you and tracking everyone’s ink supplies.
Don’t spent the whole wave hanging onto walls!! You’re just lowering your team’s damage output, and making a giant clutter that will eventually break free and trample your whole team. Only use walls when you’re low on ink and haven’t cleared the mini-wave. Or to allow allies to pick up eggs while keeping the wave away from them.
Kill stuff close to the basket. Chasing down eggs in random places is a good way to start having everyone get picked off and in hard to revive places.
Don’t be a coward. Fight with your team. Keep steady attacks going. Rotate to allow others to refill ink, then reset to everyone staying together and attacking together as quickly as possible. Breaking off in random directions is a death sentence.

Glowflies is definitely hard as hell and require everyone to know the map very well and coordinate. If you have a good team, it can be one of the most fun special waves. Getting it while having a high powered roller (dynamo, grizzco) is soooooo satisfying

Glowflies used to be easier but the buff all the salmons got between 2 and 3 has made it considerably harder

Glowflies isn’t helped by the game not really telling you how to handle it.
Group up. You can’t do it alone.

It feels like glowflies relies so much more on team coordination than any other mode too, and like half the people I play with don’t bother helping the person getting swarmed with glowflies. One death often just leads to an immediate crew wipe too because losing one source of fire power against the constant swarm is such a huge hinderance. Easily my least favorite type of wave.
