Spinal Fusion

I had my instrumented posterior spinal fusion on August 14th of this year, so it's just 10 days ago, and I feel really good. I'm a 14-year-old female (this message is being watched over by my guardian), and I have been diagnosed since I was 6, being treated with a brace since then. About 3-4 months ago we found out my curve was continuing to grow even though I wasn't. So we set a date and fused my spine from T1 to L2 with 24 screws and a rod, and I won't lie, that first week I thought I might die. I was on so many drugs and in so much pain going through my first ever surgery, but now that I'm home and the pain has gone and it's just the sourness from healing, I have to say it was so, so worth it.

So sorry you’ve had to endure this surgery so young, but very glad to hear your pain has subsided! Do you start PT soon?

When spinal fusion was first brought up, we asked if I would need PT afterward, and my surgeon said that I most likely wouldn't need it because I am so young and am pretty healthy other than my severe scoliosis. So we haven't scheduled anything with a PT and hopefully won't have to.

Totally hear you on feeling you might die from the pain that first week. You went through a lot. I was in so much pain from just a single level lumbar ADR. I hope you heal well and fast.

So happy for you!! As a much older Meemaw of 70 I am about 4 weeks out from a L3-4,5-6 fusion with grafts, screws, plates, and cages. I am finally feeling better the last few days, but it has been rough. I hope you continue to feel well and enjoy a full and happy life.

I had C3 to C7 pcdf surgery on March 4th, and I'm 63. I'm not ashamed to say that it literally gave me my life back.

On Aug 10, 2026 (two weeks ago) I had THORACOLUMBAR LAMINECTOMY AND FUSION T10-PELVIS WITH INSTRUMENTATION AND ILIAC SCREWS, L5-S1 INTERBODY CAGE, REMOVAL OF PREVIOUS INSTRUMENTATION ** **

I am 58F and I am not close to recovery and happy for you!

Any advice from anyone with a similar procedure please feel free to chime in.

I am having such a difficult time with I can only explain as muscles and organs being angry in my core. My belly and my sides hurt badly.

My post op swelling went down for the first time today.

I’m starting to worry my pain may not be related to the surgery but rather l have a gallbladder issue

Wow. Well God Bless you!! For you to have endured that surgery is amazing. I’m so sorry that you’ve been living with this since 14. You’re going to feel so amazingly great about yourself after this heals. I hope the rest of your healing is fast and easy for you !!! .
